I don't know where those of you live who have been bothered by horses being abandoned near/on your property. In the desert southwest however, it's been learned that the hundreds of horses that have been turning up there were refused at the border by the Mexican slaughter plants, and the killers just turned them loose to live or die. Kill-buyers have no mercy for anything - human OR equine.
Too many humans believe we have dominion over animals and carry no guilt to killing for personal gain. Horses have been part of the human journey forever and now we should consider the implications of their fate to ours. check out my documentary Wild Horses In Winds of Change made to raise awareness about wild horses.
The slaughter of horses is very wrong yet its no less justifiable than the slaughter of cows, pigs, chickens or any other species. If your against horse slaughter but for the slaughter of cows, pigs, chickens, exc. your only been hypocritcal and a speciesist.

I really wished that they would not edit out the more graphic parts of the video. If people can not see the level of suffering, they don't have as much incentive to put a stop to it.
I agree with onekinkstar...breeders should be blamed for the problem...to many people want an animal and then end up getting rid of it and the excuses are unreal and always the same..there are enough animals in this world that need love and a good home...why make more is my question
No one can do this day after day and remain compassionate or kind, or even human. And here is US, there are bills in many states making it a FELONY to film or tape evidence of abuse in the plants.
Something needs to be said about the BREEDERS too - the start of the problems. There are so many horses used and abuse, in need of good homes and safe care, with good foods . . . Just like dogs and cats, WHY aren't the breeders blamed with some of the responsibility?
@onekinkstar That's alright. I tend to like to point stuff like that out because my family are breeders. True we breed for the market and only for the market. (four foals last year) Manage to sell all of the stock, basic training but then we have a stringent policy for selling. If you don't meet our criteria, we won't sell.
I just dislike the whole grouping aspect, it makes it seem like you are pointing at me and saying, 'YOU'RE at fault!!!' I know you aren't doing so.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth Yikes, I thought I'd removed my double posting before, so did it again. Sorry. Thanks for not blasting my honesty about my ignorance!
@onekinkstar Why would I? It jsut seems ignorant and rude on ym part if I were to do so. I like to keep things civil and on a level playing field, you know? Nothing ever gets done in war expect lose of stupidity and good men/women. So I prefer to keep it out of the battlefield. lol
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth Sorry, I don't know enough about the issue really. It was a broad statement, about starting at the root of the problem, that's all. There is enough blame to go around! The topic has much attention here now because a new bill was signed for horses to be slaughtered here, versus shipping to Canada or Mexico. Reading of racehorses killed, mistreated, overbred, abused - it's all just a mess. Humans are not all kind. Stopping wrong should be easier!
@onekinkstar -EXACTLY!!! Responsible breeders, responsible owners and no more idiots that go thru horses faster then they change thier furniture. The change starts with people first.
Cargill's plant (spelling?) is the place (I think) that allowed Lisa Ling to come in and witness their operations for the Oprah show a few years ago. She watched some of the slaughters, without cameras, but was allowed full access everywhere else for filming. They are to be commended for at least making an effort to do better.
The only reason the increase horses going to slaughter is because not only the economy, but fuel prices of diesel run over $4.00 a gallon and most horses comes from the US. So travel expenses increases the number of horses too. Auctioneers needs the kill buyer in these hard times not because of unwanted horses but sales are down at auctions sales are down for cars, trucks, and homes etc.. So what makes horse sales at auction any different. Horse slaughter promotes abuse and rewards criminals
Thank you for posting the cruel truth about our horse slaughter industry. The USA wants back in on the "action".
I've lost all respect for the veterinary medical profession. They are paid to watch animals live or die. They get paid either way. The OSPCA found two veterinarians that asserted keeping a horse in a garage was suitable and adequate. SubStandards are the new normal. The CFIA has lots of pretty words, but zero actions.
Keep on those dumba**es and get this banned..I am sick over this..those poor babies are suffering at the hands of stupid humans...I cant believe this is going on...please please please I beg of you to keep on these people and get this banned...FOR GOOD!!! I cant quit crying and I am so tired of hearing about animals that arent wanted being abused and killed...there shouldnt be any animals put down in this world unless they are lame or suffering...fixing an animal needs to be taught..no breeding
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth One doesn't have to be a vegan to object to wanton cruelty. Actually, as Temple Grandin has said herself, there is as yet no known humane way to slaughter horses. She said it should stop until a humane way is found - IF it's ever found.
Another problem with US horses is that they aren't raised a food animals and they do not meet the food safety standards in the US, Canada, Mexico or the EU. NO ONE should be eating horses from the United States!
@MorganLver My question was based on her attitude that made it seem like she was vegan, if she was then I would know how to formulate my replies as not to offend her lifestyle choice.
One paragraph of the ALC report, which noted – “She (Grandin) described herself as “neutral” on the issue of whether to ban horse slaughter for human consumption.”
She is not saying shut it down, she is not getting involved on the issue period.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth You haven't heard every word Temple Grandin has EVER said, right? The has stated that there was at present no humane way to slaughter horses and it should not continue until there IS a humane way of doing it. I PERSONALLY do not think they will ever find a way to humanely slaughter horses.
@MorganLver I disagree, I think there is and that it will be found. People just need to open their eyes and actually think about it before just jumping into it, then after we have the humane slaughter down pat we can work on phasing it out by fixing all of the other problems. The back yard breeding, the people buying a horse just becuase. Once we fix all of those, horse slaughter won't be necessary.
@MorganLver Its funny, really a .33 bullet to my horse's head after she broke her leg was humane. She died instantly. Our old stud grew skinny and we couldn't keep any weight on him. A .33 bullet put him out of his misery humanely. But yet, this process can't be applied to a slaughter plant? If shooting a horse out in the back pasture with a .33 bullet is humane, why can't it be in the slaughter facility.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth Because there is such a chaotic atmosphere in an assembly line commercial slaughter setting. Horses can see and smell what is going on. They can see other horses strung up and bleeding out. They don't usually use guns in slaughter plants. They use the captive bolt which is totally unacceptable with any equid because it's very ineffective for them. A slaughter plant is a FAR cry from being in a quiet home atmosphere in familiar surroundings.
@MorganLver Actually, I really hate to disagree but the chute line isn't straight. It is illegal to have the kill room in full view of the holding pens. There is a major curve from the holding pens to the kill box, preventing the other horses from seeing what is going on. If you watch the horse slaughter videos that curve and the separation is evident. As for the smells, they are supposed to have a venting system to get rid of it but they rarely do.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth Honey, I HAVE watched the videos - from the OLD plants in Texas, and believe me, the horses COULD see! This is a new Temple Grandin designed plant. WE had old cattle slaughter houses. I was inside the one in Kaufman, Texas so I KNOW what it was like.
@MorganLver Another bubble I hate to burst is that the horse knows that is going, this is sadly not true. While they do have some understanding of their surroundings, a horse does not have the thought process to comprehend what is going on in the slaughter house. They react to primal feelings, such as fear, that another horse exhibits but they are not aware that their surroundings are dangerous to them. They feed off one another, their instincts are easily read by one another.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth You underestimate equine intelligence. Besides I didn't say they knew exactly what was going on like we do. However, they can understand that is means danger You missed research articles in The Horse. Horses are able to conceptualize, and then use that knowledge in a different situation - but same CONCEPT - a year later. They can also count. Not just the difference between 1 and more than one, but actually count the number of items up to 8 or so.
@MorganLver I've worked with horses my entire life. Listening to their body language is just second nature to me. I know what every little twitch, every head swivel/ear swivel, every stomp and tail swish, means. I know when a horse is stressed, curious, scared, angry, or content. For me it is like night and day but a lot of the horse's emotions are easily mixed up. The stressed and scared ones in particular. I wish I could make a video to show what each horse emotion looks like.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth "entire life" How impressive that is depends on how old you are. Do you actually believe that horses can't read their surroundings any better than that? How in the world did they survive as prey animals? They absolutely DO know - especially UNFAMILIAR surroundings - and are quite different than when they are at home. That's HORSE 101.
But, since you know everything, don't expect me to answer you any more. I have better things to do.
@MorganLver 38 for me, and 79 for my father. that's a good 100 years of experience. Horses are no way, scientifically, as smart as a dog or a pig. Horses are scientifically a lower intelligence life form. That is Animal Biology 101.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth i see you are still spewing shit out of your filthy cock sucker about why these poor horses should die. you fool no one bitch. as soon as you and your finger banging father stop your backyard breeding there wont be any more excess horses. your the problem not these poor horses. and take your bullshit video on your shitty channel of words and stick it up your dad/brother/cousin rancherjongus ass you disgusting horse butchering bitch!
@GODBLESSAMERICA71 I don't know who you are... but the language! My daughter is letting me comment. She gave up the account for education purposes. Is taking her journeymen in a couple months. So obviously she hasn't the time or energy to deal with the ignorance of the likes of you. But with your tirade you jsut had there i am surprised you are even allowed to post where CHILDREN can see you. Seriously, everyone can debate peacefully.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth bullshit! maybe you should ask your disgusting flat headed leg spreading daughter what shes been up to on her so called channel. shes made a good name for herself on yt with her disgusting posts about why these poor horses have to die. but if shes your daughter you must be as big an asshole degenerate lowlife as she is. wheres that inbred little bitch rancherjongus? i imagine well be hearing from him soon. i can hardly wait. little advice. start your own untainted channel.
@GODBLESSAMERICA71 Really the personal insults are a bit much. CHILDREN are allowed on this site! I for one wouldn't have allowed my children to come on here to epresss their opinions if they are going to be insulted and tore apart by the likes of you! My daughter is a smart and talented woman who was expressing her opinion. I cannot see why people these days are so closed minded to emotional issues. Really.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth behind..the..lies..is..truth??..very prolific sizzlechest..i got one better..behind your behind is your brains!..maybe?..sounds a little more on point!..well so much for the myth that females are nurturing and caring and all that bullshit!.heres to the potential misfiring of your rifle into your gut;)
@tasteegold7772 It is just my opinion. There is no need to get insulting, I wouldn't insult you for your opinions. But then again that shows a maturity that you might not have. Threats as well? My aren't you acting like a mature adult. And as for the shootin gint eh gut, tell that to the group of thrown away horses that my neighbour takes pot shots at. Knowing that I can't do a thing becuase the horses are on his property and the SPCA won't lift a finger to stop him.
@tasteegold7772 Then having to deal with them dying on MY land where they bring predators that hurt MY herd. Then I have to pay for the disposal, burial, and/or cremation of the carcasses and deal with the predators that have realized horses sure are tasty, while we are at it, so are sheep and goats! We lose A LOT of profit because those horses weren't put in an auction and sent to slaughter. Yes lets take the easy way out and dump them on someone's property! Not our problem anymore.
@tasteegold7772 Sorry if I sound snappish but that is what I'm having to deal with right now. Dead horses, limited feed and horses that aren't worth shit. That's why we have moved onto sheep. one sheep is worth more than one horse. Takes less to feed too. Easier keepers, jsut stupid.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth, wait a second, you were selling horses to slaughter, and switched to sheep? It's unfortunate that you feel they're stupid. They've been handled with disregard for their strong "hive" mentality. The term "close knit" is in regards to their behaviour, as well. So, your other video is pro-slaughter, because you can't sell them to slaughter anymore? Nice. Knowing the horrors your old "friends" face doesn't bother you?
@AnimalLeftist No. Where did you get that from? In the 70 years my family has been in business, we have only sent 2 to slaughter, both were a danger to themselves and to humans. There were extenuating circumstances and we could neither shoot them on our property nor could we get the vet to come out. SO we put them into the trailer and took them to the plant. We lost money when we did so.
@AnimalLeftist And sheep are ridiculously stupid. You've never had to deal with a sheep leaving its newborn lamb in the middle of no where because they are are too stupid to clean the lamb off or to stay with it. We've lost many lambs because the ewes are completely stupid. We have to separate the ewes from the herd with their lambs for three days so they will actually bond with them. Otherwise they leave them somewhere and don't care. I have never met a more stupid animal.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth, you know, that's likely a product of genetics. Bad breeding. You may be owners of "stupid" sheep, but tell me, why does the sheep farmer I know not have any problems at all? Have you looked at how you house them? Sheep survived in the wild for many thousands of years before we domesticated them Just trying to change the attitude that stupidity is the norm. WE made em that way. Alpacas can die if stressed, in a medical setting. Is that stupidity?
@AnimalLeftist We don't make money with horses. My point was that predators are attracted to the dead horses that were on our property becuase of our neighbour taking potshots at them. The predators come for the dead horse then stay and kill our sheep and goats, hence, cutting into our profits. All because some idiot dumped their horses out 'into the wild' because they believed the horses would be able to survive.
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth, true, there are many idiots that own horses, or at least, owned horses. I guess calling the OSPCA is a waste of time? Never mind, I already know the answer.
@AnimalLeftist We tried but they wouldn't come and take the horses nor would they tell the man to stop. Saying the man stated the horses were a 'nuisance and a pest' that were 'destroying his fences and his crops'. They agreed and won't do anything to stop him, nor will they pick up the animals because, and I quote, 'We do not have the capabilities nor the budget to deal with loose horses. We are sorry.' Yah, we exhausted all options with them and I have lost faith in all honesty
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth Old science, Babe. Outdated as the idea that the world is flat. No mammal is "scientifically a lower intelligence life form" than any other mammal. The scientific opinions change as they learn new ways to test animal intelligence. Sorry you don't keep up enough to know that. In the very article I mentioned said this was HUGE because no one dreamed horses were capable of conceptual thinking until now.
@MorganLver dont pay that nut job behindtheliesistruth any mind. her whole family is involved in the heinous murder of poor horses i canada. they have been trolling these horse murder vids for years trying to prove their disgusting point with lies and innuendo. some of the other channels they use are: rancherjongus mistrusevi bulldogger87 mrpeanutbutterman. they make a living off of the suffering of poor animals. they will never change and its not worth trying. peace
@GODBLESSAMERICA71 How can you claim to kow me? Or my family for that matter? Its is my opinion that. I wish for with my entire heart is that we phase out the problem parts first, then get rid of it. After we educate owners, regulate breeding and sales then slaughter will be phased out completely. that is what I wish for but until the education becomes prevalent slaughter needs to be there, just until the other problems are fixed. Then it can go to hell.
@hollywoodvogue0177 It is and what I wish for with my entire heart is that we phase out the problem parts first, then get rid of it.

My daughter is a smart and talented woman who was expressing her opinion. I cannot see why people these days are so closed minded to emotional issues. Really.

BehindTheLiesIsTruth 2 months ago
@tasteegold7772 Sorry if I sound snappish but that is what I'm having to deal with right now. Dead horses, limited feed and horses that aren't worth shit. That's why we have moved onto sheep. one sheep is worth more than one horse. Takes less to feed too. Easier keepers, jsut stupid.
BehindTheLiesIsTruth 2 months ago
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth, wait a second, you were selling horses to slaughter, and switched to sheep? It's unfortunate that you feel they're stupid. They've been handled with disregard for their strong "hive" mentality. The term "close knit" is in regards to their behaviour, as well. So, your other video is pro-slaughter, because you can't sell them to slaughter anymore? Nice. Knowing the horrors your old "friends" face doesn't bother you?
AnimalLeftist 2 months ago
@AnimalLeftist No. Where did you get that from? In the 70 years my family has been in business, we have only sent 2 to slaughter, both were a danger to themselves and to humans. There were extenuating circumstances and we could neither shoot them on our property nor could we get the vet to come out. SO we put them into the trailer and took them to the plant. We lost money when we did so.
BehindTheLiesIsTruth 2 months ago

AnimalLeftist 1 month ago
@AnimalLeftist We don't make money with horses. My point was that predators are attracted to the dead horses that were on our property becuase of our neighbour taking potshots at them. The predators come for the dead horse then stay and kill our sheep and goats, hence, cutting into our profits. All because some idiot dumped their horses out 'into the wild' because they believed the horses would be able to survive.
BehindTheLiesIsTruth 2 months ago
@BehindTheLiesIsTruth, true, there are many idiots that own horses, or at least, owned horses. I guess calling the OSPCA is a waste of time? Never mind, I already know the answer.
Yes.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
AnimalLeftist 2 months ago

@BehindTheLiesIsTruth That is so sad. I think horses shouldn't be slaughtered for food in the first place :(
