He intended originally for it to be a guitar solo, but he kept missing a chord *(or something like that)* so he just sang through a distortion AMP the part of the guitar, and it sounded like a guitar so they used it :D
Most def the song is not about a relationship...it's about muse not getting the support from their hometown growing up..i can see why somone would interpert these lyrics that way, but i was just saying to clear things up...and this video to me is about a US and how almost everybody is part of a routine boring suburban society that's why we see the jock, cheerleader etcccc...they come to sad realization that their life is boring

They are either side, but not adjacent. Thankfully (at least according to my dictionary) the song wasn't called musculoskeletal museum.
