The "octospectometer" is was made up for TV back in the 70s, but now we have a scanner, OCR software, and a word processor. We can scan the typed note into a computer, retrieve the text, and edit it on the screen.
@d72jjpilc There are a lot of shows that "invent" things that seem impossible to do at the time. Maxwell Smart came out in the 60s with a "shoe phone," and now everyone carries a cell phone, even though we don't have them hidden in our shoes. The Jetsons, as well as many other shows, depict "video phones," and there have been such devices like that over the years that didn't seem to catch on, but webcams are now the common thing.
