Windows VS Mac: The history from 1983 to 2011

Okay, now i love Windows. i am a pc user and the only apple product that i have is my ipod. I want to say that Apple Macs are a better system. U get less viruses and they are all up more robust. Also, microsoft stole 'Wimp' off of Mac. Wimp stands for something like 'windows, icons programs mouse' not 100% sure about the last 2. anyways windows stole that off of them and they went to a big court case. The only reason that microsoft won is because they had more money.

while I love the effects on Mac, I think that Windows' appearance is much more colorful and appealing than Mac's kinda boring blue and gray colors, even though their technology is much better

last thing is that the only reason why mac doesnt get as much viruses as windows is because less than 90% of the world uses mac for what ever reason no hacker or programmer would go make a virus to attack the lower percentage of the world. Mac has only increased its preformance to be able to support their display settings. The reason their quality is good is because they dont make their pc customizable by users (hence in a mac computer every bit of hardware between the screen and the motherboard is perfectally compatable and cannot be changed) and that is the only reason the quality is so good

Sure u can build a hackintosh (a pc thats compatable with mac) but it will have lots of errors and bugs and not be as efficient.

Pc was generally programed from simular codes as mac was. That why u are able to dual boot it on mac.

@burstfyre20 They both run on Intel x86 or x64 architecture. The reason Windows works on Mac hardware is because Apple provides the correct drivers and emulate the BIOS with Bootcamp. Hackintoshes don't work well because the OS only includes drivers for the few Apple models.

Its amazing mac has always kept its user friendly Gui layout as for windows they got some ideas from mac system 7 and earlier for win 95.

In my opinion

Apples best os is os 9 and os x tiger.

Windows best is xp and win 7

But also has its worst on the early windows systems and vista. Vista has to be the wrost os i've used (yes I ment to be offensive here) the xp intagration is a ok, the boot time is very bad, sp 2 has driver issues, and has bad admin issues and protocols. Nowonder ppl stayed on XP

@WCKicksAss There is a productivity standpoint for the continued graphic paradigm that Apple chooses for their desktop and laptop OS: gray is more neutral than blue. I agree that things should be more customization than that, and I love aero on my PCs. My desktop PC ended up being for my PC games more than anything anyway however. I use my mac for design work and homework. There is a certain mindset when using either. I get more work done in the Mac operating environment. That isnt for everyone.

@rubenandpimslapping GUI was first developed by Xerox PARC in the 70's, and commercially available years before the Mac. Jobs was smart to steal it, add some modern features, and turn into the first (successful) GUI OS. Jobs wasn't smart enough to realize that software, not hardware, was the way of the future. MS did, and they put a PC in every home.

The GUI has nothing to do with a 'badass' PC. That is Apple's fault for having a closed ecosystem and not taking gaming seriously.

@digitalintent Xerox let Apple into their labs for 1 million in shares. It wasn't theft. Xerox had a rudimentary 'mouse' and floating Windows. Apple added a persistent menu bar on top of the screen, drop down menus, trash can (instead of deleting files in command line), and made a cheap mass produceable mouse that didn't break in literally a week. I think Jobs knew the hardware-software bit, but he was kicked out of Apple and only rejoined in 97, when Windows 95 had already took off.

Jobs was a visionary genius, but I don't think he understood how necessary it was to have your software run on multiple hardware configurations, especially in those early days. Again, MS did.
