My dad always insisted on flying TAA and not Ansett because it was privately owned. Especially later when the owner turned corporate raider. As a kid I always wanted to go on the balloon instead of the plane.
Both Ansett and TAA has a duopoly running - at the full blessing of the inept socialist Labor Party. Prices are much cheaper now, despite the high fuel prices.
@creativeengineer Unfortunately your memory is incorrect, sir. The duopoly was sustained by the conservative and labor governments. There is also the reality of economics. Running airlines and aerodromes were more expensive then and the government ( Menzies I think) rightly concluded that a stable 2 airline system was better than chaos. We have never had any socialist governments outside of neo-fascist propaganda.
@Airbusboy14 This music was re wriiten by a briliant man called Frank Smith fromn Frank Smith Products. He had recording studio in Jolimont Melbourne and was one of the first to have an 8 track recorder. His technician was Gil Matthews
@Conniptions886 Well thanks so much for all your work digitizing this stuff. I've been living in London for the last 4 years, and your ads will keep me entertained (and homesick) through the long, cold winter that's just started.
I think one of those hosties still work for Qantas. Her name was Gwen and she served me some slop on the QF774 last week. She doesnt smile as much these days.
@captainchassa Someone had that ad on here recently but they withdrew it apparently. Whoever it was, post it back (The ad looked from around 1977-78...1975 even. It was in colour and the TAA jingle was was more "funky")
When you want to fly Come fly the friendly way When you want to fly Come fly with TAA We'll get you where you want to go and give you extra care Up in the air Up, up and away with TAA, the friendly friendly way Girls are nicer there when you fly with TAA Give you extra care when you fly the friendly way C'mon and fly Up, up and away With TAA, the friendly friendly way
This brings back many memories. I started flying with TAA as a 7 year old in '73 and loved all the 'pretty ladies' that looked after me. I didn't like Ansett because their pretty ladies wore bright orange uniforms :-)
That hostie is actually pretty hot
