If you look at Schult's history, he has only thrown over 70m a couple times, and while he did win a few championships as well, Alekna has shown far more consistency over the years. As far as bringing discus to a new level, I think Alekna is your man.

im going to have to disagree. i don think hes the greatest thrower ever. he was most certainly the most successful, but that is largely in part to his enormous size and arm span. sure, these are attributes that should be considered when deciding who the best discus thrower ever was, but i would have to say that either wolfgang schmidt or gerd kanter would be the best ever. both had/have outstanding technique. if not for wolfgang's imprisonment, he would have broken the world record.

yup. but i say al oertar is the greatest olympian ever. Man had his rib cage broking and still one the discsus event with his last throw. on top of that he broke the olympic record to on all 4 times that he won the gold medal. now that guy is amazing. as quoted from him : "these are the olympic games and you die for them"
