  • easily one of the most interesting poets of the 20th century, a true revolutionary pushing every boundary he finds, but always willing to apologise when he finds a line and feels he's crossed it.

  • Great speech. Thanks for the video

  • The poetry starts at 8 mins and 51 secs in.

  • amiri baraka, a hack? Some people that commented here need to go back to school. He's probably one of the greatest African American poets since Langston Hughes. Maybe he's just ahead of his time...

  • I'm glad I didn't attend Berkeley. The campus reeks of urine, pot, & Birkenstock pseudo-intellectuals who want 2 give a voice to all (the oppressed). B4 any of U utter UR hate, I'M NOT A REPUBLICAN. As a fiscal/civil libertarian, I even protested when Mahmoud "I'ma Blow U up" (deranged prez of Iran) was invited to speak at Columbia (my grad school Alma Matter). I recently became aware of this "wanna be" poet. I understand at one point he advocated the killing of white people. Sickening!!!

  • @WarezDaBeef You ugly because you is was the same, you ugly because you know you ugly and say you aint

  • @WarezDaBeef U must be one of those blood sucking Vampire Baraka was talking about at 30:00

  • @WarezDaBeef, Some people don't need to deny politics. You know what I think? You're ashamed. You don't like this guy's poetry, but you can't tell why. So you poke fun at colleges, like all these old English teachers in a library are no different from the potheads they have the misfortune of teaching. You jump to Islamophobia, like that makes you less Republican and more libertarian somehow. And I didn't hear any talk of shooting honkies for being honkies. Maybe you just don't know poetry.

  • I suggest UC Berkley extends an invite to this one homeless person I saw near a sub station on a business trip to NY recently. His talent is to fart uncontrollably and non-stop. He is a great poet. Berkeley would be honored to have his poetry exhibited on campus. I'm sure there is an added bonus with the olfactory aura to it and it accompanied aroma.

  • Amiri Baraka - chinga tu madre pinche wey de mierda.... esta basura me hace vomitar..... Yuk!!!! Que mierda es asno, este burro mal creado....

  • T.S Eliot, Pablo Neruda, Octavio Paz, Whitman, Frost, Poe, etc > than this ass clown!!!! In the interest of being "inclusive," - people have degraded themselves to pander to racist crackheads who bring our their white guilt. This is not poetry... it's what a drunk, crackhead hobo will utter outside a sub station. I'm surprised this "poet" did not show up wit his crack pipe. If this is poetry, my turds smeared on a wall = post-modern art.

  • #OMG clownload movіe vshmone.сom

  • White folks steal cultures, enslave groups of people but cant stand it when you talk about them...they call poetic expression "drivel." HAHA!

  • @ninjaspit : Pablo Neruda was Latino - chilean.... Neruda > this ass clown!!! Show this crap to people from Latin America, they will gaga and puke as well!!!! Even Latinos see that this is nothing but "crackhead poetry" by overrated hobos!!! Asi que ve y chinga a tu madre culero azno de mierda..... seguro eres un orangutan como este supuesto poeta.

  • i found amiri's poem SOmebody Blew Up America, distasteful, racist, and repugnant.

  • @Conail23 then why the HELL are you here?

  • @ximilixaca, why shouldn't I be here? WHy shouldn't people's public work be subject to scrutiny and criticism? So your message is that I either love everything the racist has to say or else don't observe his work!? What a load of crap that is!

  • @Conail23 simple concept....you dont go to someone's performance or appearance (in person) and boo them...its COMMON decency! That you seem to lack. Oh...and by your simple little comment "racist" I know your a proud white supremacist...but its ok, I coexist even with Satan himsel

  • @ximilixaca, what irrational nonsense! I am a white surpemacist since I called HIM a racist! Yeah, that's an air-tight argument! haha Jus because u don't like what I have to say doesn't mean you can just deamonize me and say I'm a white supremacist. I do not appreciate the ignorant ideas of white supremacy anymore than I do the ignorant and counterproductive trash from black supremacists! We're all just human beings dude, get over it!

  • @Conail23

He wanted to 'kill whitey' back in the day.

  • Go to 6:30 to skip boring white guy.

  • @sparksdini, ur racism is showing, you just prove the point about how bigotted Amiri and his followers are.

  • This is the best. I love Amiri Baraka but you might want to go do something during the long, long introduction. Be sure to come back for Baraka though. You don't want to miss any of this.

  • Thank you to my English professor for introducing me to Armini Baraka!

  • @HarleyGrl722

Your English Prof is a putz....with all the great lit and poetry in this world, he'd/she'd recommend this drivel?

  • @HarleyGrl722 , perhaps your English professor should have introduced you to Yeats, Whitman, Frost, or any great poet rather than to some angry, ranting piece of crap. In the name of diversity and inclusiveness, mediocre hacks are now called great artists and poets. How sickening it is!

  • Amiri Baraka is the guru of the written word. I love every word he has ever written and that I have read.... I am searching for a friend of his O;liver Pitcher, or his family, can you help?

  • always great....

  • the truth is like the unknown

people fear what they do not understand

as time goes on, one day, it will be

  • RIGHT ON!

  • 28:30

  • amiri we love you.

  • That is amazing to listen to... i found a site that has cool writing and poetry also it is ColorsAndSounds dot

  • I love Robert Hass too!

  • Timeless

  • Where Lies Lie Searching threw air for everything, what I need is invisible, sharp, the kind you don't feel coming in but rips your soul on the way out, blood seems poetic at the end tender like a kiss.
  • A Door to Your Imagination, at Authorhouse is a good poetry picture book.

  • I celebrated 3 birthdays during that intro

  • @owens1936

looool... hes an older man, i guess you just have to have respect and bare with it. but i agree..... too long of an intro.

  • He has a great beat. I could also feel each poem or song.

  • you shd add "amiri baraka" to the tags so someone can find this.

  • nice

  • I thought LeRoi Jones wanted to kill whitey? Now he's reading lunch poems with em! Man, times have changed.

  • no youv'e changed. it was your wrong belief that people acualy say whitey. and that leroi jones wanted to kill them

  • what?

  • @bluemovie001

I know what a joke this 'poet' is.....I would be a poet too if i didn't have to deal with the freaks that make up the 'community'.
