  • This Hammond/Leslie ending has always haunted me and I play it often. FYI: the song is played in C# but the video is played in C. Go figure. I actually can't imagine playing that ending in C#. Still one of my 3 most favorite bands from my teens. Early teens.

  • "The only good Indian is a Dead Indian",quote from General Sherman.

  • I'm Creek. Even as late as the 1870's (and beyond) the Native American was being murdered by the White Devil. My great great grand parents were murdered by White Devils. Their children were adopted by Christian parents. One of those children was my great grand father.

  • This song STILL gets me. Love it. Brilliant of them to write it and quite brave of them as well.

  • love watching my girls dance to this ^.^

  • Science tells us there is no such thing as a Native American . Every male on earth carries an African gene. So everyone can state they are African American.Might work out for a minority job or contract.

  • sad but true

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved this song back in grade 4.

  • Being MicMac ib Cabada . I had a residental school

  • No matter how much in life we would like to change the past it is not possible. What we can do is be aware of now and what we do and how we treat people. You will have good and bad in all but get to know each person you meet and make up your mind about that person not their race. Open your mind to everything before entering into what you do in life. Native music is my favorite of all check out Robbie Robertson Sound for the native american album.

  • im a viking but apparently not the ones landed here americans want all the credit omg r u american lmao im not predjudust just sick of GOVERNMENT BS and propaganda its bs what is goin on

did u ever get asked on the dumb surveys i didnt but they say.................

  • @cattnipp1 Erik the Red!!!

  • Everytime I hear this song I think about Ole Hickory!!

  • BE PROUD of your heritage-and by all means this means EVERYONE! NO NATION ON EARTH calls their people white except America! It's disgusting how they are using that "term" these days to use against everyone! No my ancestors immigrated, but I no longer refer to myself as white! Iam German, Irish, Scott, English and Hungarian! Screw American Corrupt GOVERNMENT of theives &liars!

  • @54pigsdofly can someone pls tell me how to start my own post so i dont have to keep typin on some one elses and loved what u said

  • @cattnipp1 you outh to have a spot at the top...a box that says "Respond to this video". Go there, and make sure your cursor is clicked in there, and just start typing........then hit post........

  • Hey yo Bro, take a Chill pill, there is no one putting down the Commance, but your self, The Commance peoples are who they are, because they are a fierce people;; who protect their familyand their property, just like I would do..... If I was asked to sit down, and eat with a Commance, I would be honored..... Thank you for your comment my brother.....

  • Also, made in China 0:59

  • There's so much nations, cultures, traditions fouled by western influence. People should be proud of their history. Proud to be Slav!

  • call the cavalry theres a crazy comanche with papers....lmao

  • I don't know why but I love this song SOOO much. :) I'm only 14, not like age has anything to do with it, but it like brings me back to the days I never lived. Make since much? xD

  • @NZBeautiful great post,it's a great and timeless song,no surprise someone 14 like you would think so much of the song, all ages would think it a great song if they only heard it.

  • Oddly, I never really liked this song much. I've always felt there was something not quite right about a band named "Paul Revere and the Raiders" doing a song about this. (IMHO) I saddens me to see how much anger is still held here for sickening wrongs done in the past, but I understand it, and feel it is justified. I'm only 1/132 native, but it makes me sick to know that many of my own ancestors were probably part of the disgusting treatment of the natives here. Sickening. Just sickening.

  • No white man's paper can hold what is right....It must come from men of honor...White man has been sneaking up on the red man for years.

  • if you research thanksgiving its NOT A GOOD DAY FOR MANY INDIANS ITS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING I will never celabrate again

  • anadarko

trail of tears from georgia to oklahoma

  • pride

  • red man

  • there is no shame in being native american, no matter the culture, be very proud, all of us, white, black, asian, or native american, remember where you roots started and there is no shame to me in that.

  • i do feel bad the way the white people done the native indians

  • @MarineAnnapolis22 ...LOL..anytime jarhead..Want my adddress?..1st bn 2nd bde 325th pir 82nd abn and part cherokee...bring it!

  • @hippocripp LOL, you say jarhead like it's an insult. Also giving an incomplete address either means you're A: dumb and forgot to put the whole thing or the more likely B: scared of repercussions from youtube, your COC, or someone dumb enough to come find you. Make no mistake he's retarded. My point is that you're just as bad

  • @MarineAnnapolis22 DAMN LITTLE BOY ! whats with all the crying like a little bitch ? after some carefuk thought i reliezed you are either a LIAR or maybe a LIAR ? im not sure which one . A. youre not a cowboy ! you dont ride a horse everyday of your life , you dont depend on a horse to live ! and you probably buy your dinner at mcdonalds or the STORE ! thats not being a cowboy ! B. marines and cowboys are not the same thing YOU EITHER ARE A COWBOY OR YOURE NOT !

  • @MarineAnnapolis22 and the COURAGE AND HONOR that the indians fought with is something you will READ ABOUT @ annapolis , but not something your BRAGGART ASS WILL EVER SHOW ! ! !

  • @MarineAnnapolis22 yea well the indians had pride in themselves and they were also here before any of you cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They fought for what was theirs, you fought to steal it so I guess that would make you a thief!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IT is a very good one

  • @cwood4ever no body is fully pure white most everyone ne is mixed with something.

  • I am a Cherokee. I am proud, I am boisterous. I am oblivious, yet I see all. I am Arapahoe and I am Navajo. I am all things to all people, for you see, I am timeless. Those who think, they do not know, and those who know, they do not think. I was here before the White settler, and I will stand proud after He has moved on. I am Indian, I am transcendental, I am e, I am pi, I am the integral of the exponential function. Do not hate; simply extrapolate.

  • @GlorifiedTruth stay away from the payotie

  • Glory to the white man, cars ,internet, modern medicine, jet planes, guns, condoms, fast food etc etc

  • @cwood4ever Since Youtube doesn't allow likes or dislikes anymore I'll simply pray for you to become part of the human community. There's nothing wrong with showing glory to the white man but to make a post like that on this song upload clearly shows your true color.

  • @PurpleHealer1 well youre an idiot who uses emotion instead of your brain. Glory to the white man

  • @cwood4ever No, you're a human being who lives in darkness. Glory to you and your kind a hole.

  • looks like a lotta white men in the band

  • FRY BREAD POWER

  • I am a second generation Dane/Swede given up for adoption and raised by evangelicals on the north and eastern edge of Navajo lands in South Valley ABQ. That might be a factor in why this song resonates in my soul.

  • @SirDcitykity Love the Indian People, My Mom is halft Choctaw...LIVE IN ABQ!

  • I also found out that Kiowa,Apache,& commanche are all from the Anabascan peolpe who came over here some 35,000 years ago. My g-g-g-grandpa was a Chiracahua Apache chief. A couple of folks in the family have pics of him, seen one. I'm proud of it,but bein called half breed & shunned as a kid wasn't fun.

  • My wife is part Cherokee, and she goes on the warpath once in a while. She's after my Scottish hide! ;-)

  • I was taught since I was a boy if ya ain't gunna eat it,don't shoot it.

  • love the organ at end of song.

  • we screwed you bad, mother earth.

  • so SORRY

  • My fathers people were slain for no reason, except the white mans greed, they told us we could'nt teach our native tongue, but guess what white man? now you've got to learn spanish, because pretty soon spanish will be the most spoken language in America, already you cant call a business without being ask to press 1 all the packages are in 2 languages, thats if the chinease don't take over for the debt (12 trillion dollars) that we owe them. happy learning. KARMA-KARMA-KARMA

  • im montaukett and proud of it!!!

  • Im half cherokee and half irish but i hate my irish side and am more proud to admit to being cherokee

  • Damn whitey screwed up...shot the buffalo by mistake

  • @blackjack502 ~ by mistake???? You mean for sport...cuz they were bored on those long train rides..or do you mean the ones who killed the buffalo for their hides only, and left the meat to rot, or the ones who purposely killed off a food source??......sits down and folds my hands nicely.

  • Im proud to be part indian, What a heritage to have pride in.

  • I still wish I had an Indian friend, haven't had one since the service 84-86.

  • una cancion inolvidable !!! En cualquier parte del mundo tenemos una gran deuda con los pueblos originarios , desplazados , robados y aniquilados por " el progreso " GRACIAS !

  • Be Proud and Stand Tall, I am so Proud of You All

  • I'm proud of my Native American Ancestry these fought for what was rightfully theirs only to be tricked and lied to by the US Government and still to this day are being lied to and treated like Dogs like the song says Maybe someday when they've learned the Cherokee Nation will return I dought it unless we get a full blooded Native American as President then just maybe

  • @MrBill19641 I dont think there are to many full blooded Native Americans left even that thought would be nice

  • Something about living here in Hermitage, Tn listening to this.....

  • Only recently rediscovered the song as I feel drawn to the ballads of my youth. I have been studying Shamanism for some time now and often wonder how much of a better world we may be living in if we learned from the indigenous races that have been slaughtered throughout history in the name expansion and spiritual conversion.

  • im only 16th Cherokee on my papa's side and 16th Blackfoot on my nanna's and damn proud of it too! and kids at school always call me a dirty red skin and a savage.

  • @Jew4444DeGraw you should ask them which ancestors could hunt better yours or theirs. and at least yours used every piece of the animals body and ate it instead of wasting it and just shooting animals for game. :D Thats one of the greatest things about Native Americans They had great respect for animals

  • Like Siberians to Russians... like original Americans to... everyone else.

  • I don't think that I'm predidice! I actually believe that the native Indians own this land! Chinese descendaent, perhaps!

    Who Knows!

  • ᏣᎳᎩ ᎠᏢᏉᏛ!!!

  • love this song and I am TSALAGI (cherokee)

  • I'm damn proud of being Comanche and have the papers to prove it....My ppl & what they did in history is nothing to be ashamed about..They fought for what was truly theirs and any "non indian "would have done the same damn thing if some savage came onto their land and started giving them diseases and killing and rapping their women..I'm NOT saying indians didn't kill, but they were fighting for what was theirs..To me, their my heros...NATIVE PROUD!!!

  • @lovepeacecharity1 sorry to tell you this look at history how did everyone get their land fighting for it this through out history of the world ,I know its not fair but it is what it is all we can do is try to get along .By the way if it wasn't us it would have been Mexico and we see how they treat their own kind today by beheading them

  • @lovepeacecharity1 I didn't know that rapping was popular at that time,But your story is true and the cherokee were not by far the only ones fucked over and lied to by the white-eyed

  • @lovepeacecharity1 I am trying to get papers to prove my Cherokee descent but I am also a proud white person and i'm proud of all my ancestors, even the ones who owned slaves.

  • i've always been proud to be two parts american indian.

  • The song's actual title is Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)

  • This song hit number one the summer of 1971!

  • I'm happy to be a indo european who still makes his beads by hand. BOYCOTT INDUSTRIALISM !!!!! AND GMO!!!!!!!

  • @mcusa77 where the hell would you be without industry,,,

  • @paulinus43ad AS NEIL YOUNG SAID IN THE SONG POCAHANTAS, " IN THE LAND WE'VE NEVER SEEN"

  • @paulinus43ad Probably still living off our land...

  • @paulinus43ad Breathing better?

  • @hotdog2020 no,,,the strong take all,,,,,,,,,,,,history,,,,,,,,industry,,, advancement,,,SORRY,,,

  • @hotdog2020 I do not breath better over dead nations,,,,,,,,,,

  • @paulinus43ad Was speaking of industry not the murder of people.

  • @hotdog2020 ya know,,breathing good,,, regards,,,

  • i am proud to be indain and we are going to always know this is our land ,my grandfather died proud and hr loved the nation, he respected it and cherished it always

  • NATIVE PRIDE

  • Ha! Ha! Ha! No offense but for those of you who do not know the American Language is- ENGLISH!!!

  • @mehgrz tlano uyoi awina

  • god I am proud of my native blood....I live right off the old original war trail here in west texas, finally the Commanche were invited back to Texas...the Commanche and the Kiowa used it regularly...and well many apache' too

  • All native Americans should be proud of who they are.

  • wow i love this song but i feel like crap

  • Western Sky has cash to lend you, yes the moneys expensive, but there's no collateral

  • This is a nice song that I see in today's society that people are always dictating where you should live, how you should live etc... Be proud of your heritage of who you are. Learn your native tongue and keep speaking the American Language, Be proud of your nationality, just sayin

  • @mehgrz The "American Language"? The language is called ENGLISH not American.

  • Wavygr............ You have it turned up-side-down!

  • Yes, it is a wonderful song! It tells a "true story"

  • The Indians weren't the ones that CAME in and "Savaged", not only a Country, but a Nation of "PEOPLE"! Who were the SAVAGES!!!!!?????

  • This song was actually written and originally performed by John D. Loudermilk. Just so you know :)

  • It's about the song and the talent, not to discuss your heritage or "race" that always get people into a spin, let it go and enjoy the song, everything else is noones business. Good day, and YES I think it's a cool song and better than some of the crappy songs today.

  • that guy is faking the drums

  • Hell yeah cherokeez r da shit

  • Look i honestly am part cherokee, my great great grandmother was full blood, I'm also part Scottish, French and German, as all are part European, I'm proud of all my heritage especially the cherokee so be proud of your culture, stop wineing, stop trash talking and start living

  • Those Cherokee people must have raped and pillaged a lot because everybody on line claim to be part Cherokee or some other type indian..

  • All nationalities are people. No mater what we are all humans. Good song.

  • SONG IS PERFECT FOR THANKSGIVING!!!!!

  • @PeanutButtaCrackaa That's just really sad that you would even said that Asshole.

  • @PeanutButtaCrackaa This is a serious song

  • i am very pleased to be a cherokee. Depsite of what people say or think!

  • Badass song!

  • What The @#&%.. Will somebody give that drummer a clue!! What is he playin?!?!

  • My grandmother was supposely mostly Indian. HOwever I don't know which half of her is Indian and which half is whaite. Am I indian in mY head (as most are ) or I indian in my ass as many wanta be indians are.

  • My daughter found out the hard way that rev. life in reality is not what she envisioned in her quest to aid the indians. For one thing they did not require her assistance. For another she found out that life for Indian women is nearly equal to that of muslim women. Quiet miserable for them. While screaming about the unfairness brought upon them by whites Indian men show none of the effection, or fairness towards Indian women they demand for themselves.

  • The Indians do have a legitimate bitch, bu tif yuo study history yuo will find that every tribe, or group of nation on earth to some degree were enslaved, their lands occupied, or taken. People moves in and uprooted other people only to later uurooted themselves. Not one person or persons on earth have clear natural, or God given title to the land they dwell on. God is a myth and the land belongs to those who hold it. Maybe not fair but that's life in reality.

  • im mix Cherokee and Tuscarora I speak Din'e (Navajo) and tho i wear a shirt and skirt im still a red women deep inside. :)

  • love this song!! I would love to work on a rez!!

  • my teacher showed us this song in History today. its my new favorite song.

  • I love this song :0

  • I have Cherokee and Lenape running in my blood and I say: Who cares? Life goes on and the world evolves. If you read the Christian bible or if you hear our 'stories passed along, you can find the common ground. Where the roads meet, there is truth. Agree to disagree. No good can come of anything else.

  • Some have said look at history. alrighty then, yes, we Indians have killed, like one has said. back up to a corner, but look what the whites did, they don't teach this in schools anymore. but, the whites were practicing biological warfare, while the pilgrams were settling down. the viruses were killing off Indians by the thousands. so, who are the savages..... We all (mankind) needs to walk with the great spirit.

  • Indian Reservation!!!!! great song..

  • Love it! No doubt about it's greatness!

  • My American History teacher made us listen to this and since I already knew it him and I were singing together!

  • Stop deciding who has enough blood quantum to be "native" If you are worried about that then possibly you did not live or were raised Native. Chill. Enjoy. Live.

  • My mom used to play this a lot

  • Amazing song, compliments from a Mohawk :3

  • Nt all say they are part Cherokee, but more than half can claim some Indian blood. I am blessed to be Half Cherokee and half Shawnee. People have said I should be ashamed becuz Indians were "savages"...but those who say that should be ashamed for not paying more attention in history. The whites annihilated tribes at Sand Creek,,,and that was supposed to be "fine"...but when we retaliated we were again labled Savage. I am proud of who I am!!!!!

  • @hotgrneyz, from what I've read of the Cherokee people of the old days they really were very nice people.

  • @hotgrneyz Sorry, Im from Texas, Im only about a 1/16th Cherokee, and I dont know a soul that doesnt feel horrible about what we did to the Natives. The problem is, we cant change what we did, maybe we can remember our sins when we cross paths with other civilizations.

  • @hotgrneyz you should be proud!!! You come a very proud race!!!

  • @hotgrneyz you got that right for sure

  • Why is it that on every last video I watch there is some idiot arguing with another idiot? Granted, on the older stuff the arguments are generally tamer with less profanity, but why can't we all just ENJOY THE MUSIC FOR WHAT IT IS?? Sure, state your opinion, but leave it at that! What's the point in bickering??

  • "Mark Lindsay's ancestors were of Cherokee blood. Some have said that guitarist Freddy Weller sang lead on the song, but Lindsay (the Raiders' usual lead vocalist) was actually responsible for the lead vocal track as well as producing the recording, which was originally planned as a solo Mark Lindsay effort." (wikipedia entry for "Indian Reservation")

  • AWESOME lyrics! I'm such a mix, that as far as I know, I don't have any kind of Native American blood, but I still love the song. To me the way of life is the issue here. ..."Maybe someday when we learn, Cherokee nation will return...". So...have we learned anything yet? Be kind to the earth. Stop littering, go green...and while we are on the subject...smokers, quit thinking that your cigarette butts are not litter, I'm so tired of seeing them all over the place.

  • Don't ever, ever, ever stop fighting for your claims.

  • im part native american, born on the rez but most people look at me as white!!!

  • PROTECT THE 2ND AMENDMENT...!!!

  • I Love This Song& This Band!!!!

  • they are all a bunch of drunks anyways.

  • great song, never get tired of listen to it.

  • @mespasticpunk , Actually if you are a male you can have your mouth sab for dna he can only been proven though the male DNA, i have cherokee form both my parents , om by mother side my G-G-G-Great Grandfather went to a hanging that was a social thing in those days that where he meet G-G-G Great Grandmother who was full blood cherokee. The DNA is done though this one lab can not recall the name

  • one of the first "cool" songs

  • WHO CARES>???????????????

  • On an offnote thank yas for the song host ^^ nightly yous.

  • THE RATH WILL BE DONE IN TIME BROTHERS

  • @casey8408 why?

  • I have never played the drums, but this drummer is not doing a very good job of mimicking the proper maneuvers while the others are lip synching.

  • Indian Reservation.

  • how cares if your indian or not. its still a great song with a great message

  • @hd1987hd you must not be indian but you are a rude asshole.your people must have been some of those who stole our land

  • cherokee tribe is actually huge thats why so many people say that they are cherokee. although most are a very small amount now. (im 1/32 but i still have my card and free health care in oklahoma)

  • Comment removed

  • when my forefathers got here there was nuthin but a bunch of injins HOOTin and HOLLARin--- we kicked them out west and the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION follwed--- USA #1 place on the globe to live--- yes the "white" man stole their land , but we did it for their own good --- we look the other way on the raping of white women, and they look the other way on the stealing of the land thing..........they can gamble and get drunk ALL-DAY--- I think the injins got the better part of this deal........

  • @bigguybill4321 How do you figure a better part of the deal, you are an idiot, you have no clue about how some of the reservations are, their living conditions are terrible and why you think your dumb ass forefathers were the the greatest? try murderer's and rapist that's what you come from...yeah I would be proud If I were you. The white man raped the women, stole and killed not only the adults but babies too, hows that for ya, makes you feel real good eh.

  • @bigguybill4321 and since I have to add to this on another comment here's the rest of what I think about you and your small minded BS, American Indian's did not deserve to be treated the way they were and are, they are human just like you, just like I am and everyone else, you fear what you do not understand and you know what I am proud of my bloodline proud of the fact I come from my American Indian ancestor's unlike you and your bigoted fore fathers, who should have hung and burned.

  • @bigguybill4321 Wow, what a great outlook you have.

  • Awesome song from 1968 a big year for groups and hits

  • The plight of the Cherokee people... soulfully performed by a bunch of white guys.

I once saw an doco on a DNA testing place. Guy said the #1 call they get is from pure blooded white women who are absolutely convinced they're indian princesses and the DNA testers are bunch of liars. I'm guessing most of them posted comments on this video.

  • My GG mother was Cherokee..Several indigenous American nations went also on the "Trail of tears" to Oklahoma.

This act of 'removal' and genocide goes on all over the planet. The nazi's had plans to remove the Jews and Slavic peoples and the Chinese still are intent on removing Tibetans. Aboriginal Australians were hunted down like game animals and Africans had their legs chopped off and left in bush to die when they were no long use as slaves in Africa.

  • The Cherokee were not the only ones on the Trail of Tears. The Chickasaw (my husband's tribe, fully documented) and Choctaw were as well, that I know of.

  • Anyone notice that the drummer really isn't playing and they are all lip syncing?

  • @ltkeng No shit?
