  • HIT THE GAS!!!

  • Is there enough room in the PU cavities to install a TV Jones or would it need some routing?

  • happy to hear the gretsch gat pluck away, negative dreamers piss off and practice some more, you keep posting, im happy to watch

  • nice touch and sound

  • I have a question. do these guitars make that huming sound like a strat or tele when you use overdive? or are they silent? thanks.

  • great tone and yes it is very dave gilmour!

  • Oh yea!! "Tennessee Ernie Malmsteen!!"

  • you said it, EPIC TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this guitar onli good for rockabilly or can it be more versatile like led zepp or sabbath

  • @lukekkv I own several Gretsch guitars, and I was blown away by how versatile they are. It's too bad there aren't many videos of people playing styles other than rockabilly and country. Nothing against those styles, I love country and rockabilly, but it would be great if people could see Gretschs being used for something else. Maybe one day I'll get off my ass an post something

  • What are you playing through? Love the overdrive tones you have here!

  • nice feeling... LOL

  • Very nice playing and tone, could you mention what is the exact weight of this guitar? Thanks

  • Take a Les Paul, subtract half the balls and add a whammy bar = your answer.

  • @insensitiveremarks take a less paul and throw it in a bonfire. then piss on it to put it out, sell it in that condition, and you'd have enough cash to go buy one of these REAL guitars... FUCK ALL THESE HATERS SHAUN... keep it ON muh mang!

PS how come these wanna-be bedroom babyboomer tone junkies think that yr gretsch has a fucking "whammy bar" ??? goddamn.

  • @dj7eight ...so do you mean that Gretsch guitars are cheap? (i.e only worth as much as a burnt les paul covered in piss?) ..............??

  • That is really really fantastic tones!!!

  • So are these the factory pups or did you install some TV Jones'? GREAT tone!

  • yeah, those are the stock pickups

  • nice chops, great tone. 'Nuff said.

  • NICE PLAYING,GRETSCH COOL.

  • thats the tone i've been playing since i'm a kid... will never get rid of that tone... almost clean,,,but snap the string and natural distortion come out! good job.

  • Shaun you can play great and I can see you "think" before expressing yourself through the guitar.Speaking of thinking before you express yourself >stripes5757 and smudgey6120 :your both idiots go get a job and a life.If you two feel the(need)to reply to this"comment"about both of you- that will say it all...if you had a job and a life you(may)start to grow up and become more secure with yourselves. If you feel you cannot handle this without a reply type away gentlemen I have better things to do.

  • Nice posters in the room

    Nice tone too lol

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • great tone

  • Nice playing! Wooo - lovin' it!

  • Is the official name of this guitar :

    Gretsch G5238 Pro Jet?

  • Did you put on the Bigsby yourself?

  • Shaun. Tell me about the amp!

  • Yes please do. The amp sounds awsome! Good playing!

  • sounds great.

If you play live don't make that weird

    sly look at :40 hah

    just kidding

  • a lite ash tele, epiphone goldtop with p-90s, or this? which one is better? and i dont care if you think epiphones are cheap because they are pretty great

  • get the gretsch. it is so versatile and looks great.

  • i own the epi goldtop. i also own alot of gibsons, and to be honest the epi is just as good if better than the gibsons. Just a different name on the headstock.

  • i meant for grunge, but there are better guitars for grunge and a rockabilly video is not a good place to ask about grunge. I don't like the gretsch because of how heavy it is.

  • Shaun, how long have you had that guitar now? Do you still like it? I'm looking to get one next week. If you're reading, could you post a few comments maybe?

    ;-)

  • Hey, is that the "gold sparkle" color?

    Great playing!

  • Just got one of these myself today. I too have joined the brotherhood. I am an avid les paul fan and have not touched one since I got this guitar. It's amazing for the price.

  • hey shaun great playing!

can the gretsch take high amounts if gain and still sound decent?

  • Haha, dude, go play guitar hero! Rather call it a vibrato or whatever. Obviously yóu play guitar real good yourself, but recently you encountered better guitar players on a same level; that's why you need to pick on this guy just playin' a tune. Well, let me tell you, especially in the guitar world, there are ALWAYS 'better' guitar players.

So just enjoy the sounds of the other man, and if you really want to stand above other people that much, try generating your own sound!

  • Forget the negative tw*ts shaun, your playing's class. Nice guitar, I'm thinking about joining the Gretsch Brotherhood like SotR by getting this. Would you recommend it for my first gretsch?

  • Very nice sounds! I tried this guitar a couple of months ago, I may have to give it another go...! What's the amp, the same Magnatone you play on your other clips?

I've been looking for a good Neil guitar and I think I've found it :)

  • Rave on shaun i can dig what you laying down.

that is the shit that made elvis tear up bro

  • You have some nice guitars. I just got a White Falcon and joined the Gretsch brotherhood lol.

    SotR

  • Hey man sounds great. What is the model, what kind of Gretsch?, you play great and you get awesome sounds, what about the amplifier It is a Fender?

  • MAN, that was truly splendid. I just HAVE to know what amp you use and if any pedals, than which? You see, I'm from Sweden but I'm planning to get a black Pro Jet w. bigsby when I get to Chicago in 2 weeks! I want that sound so baaad. Please tell me how to get it :D

  • Sweet guitar, I'm looking at the Electromatic version myself. And your tones...killer ! That's real overdrive grit folks...not heavily gained out metal crap where you can't hear dynamics, clarity or how good the player really is.

Btw Shaun...you've got a touch/tone similar to David Grissom. I'm jealous.

  • whammy bar?

  • Do these guitars come with guitar cases

  • Sounds great man... Keep rocking !!!!!!

  • You have so many beautiful Gretsch guitars! Wowo!

Keep practicing! I think after a while you will be able to put some feeling into your playing after you refine your technique. Once the playing becomes truly natural to you I think you will be very good and you will find the missing ingredient which is soul.

  • haha I've been playing for 12 years now. I have weekly gigs. There's plenty of soul. These are just funny demos. Its different when you're playing live with the band.. How many people have soul on youtube when they're just messing around in their homes?

  • bullocks to rabbitsoup...everybodys got an opinion, and is an expert...he probably can't even whistle, let alond bend strings..keep on rockin...

  • Really nice sounds Shaun, that Gretsch is great looking, nice to hear those Gilmore licks come out of it *thumbs up*

  • Your video helped me...I was wondering what these guitars sounded like...well I ordered one today. nice playing. What amp are you using ?Thanks again!

  • hmm looks like the pro jet is made in china while the duo/power jets are made in japan.... guess i'd have them in my hands though to really know the difference

  • I was looking at getting a power jet, but I'm curious what the real difference is between their $2,000 dollar model and this $500 dollar model, aside from the way the bigsby is styled I don't see much difference (or hear it) save from the pickups, which can be purchased and installed anyway, I don't know much about gretsches though, whats the main difference?

  • I dont know that much about it but I'm pretty sure the difference is quality Like better pickups a better vibrato better bridge better tuners that kinda stuff. I do have the pro jet (500.00) and love it a lot. It's really nice and I reccomend it

  • Hi Shaun

Great playing!!! I'm a Brian Setzer-fan myself, and I would love to see you play some of his licks on that guitar!

    What amp are you using?

I'm thinking about buying a Gretsch ProJet myself. You've had it over a year now : would you recommend it?

    Keep up the good work!

  • great gilmour stuff and love the posters, looka lik a 50's joint. where did you find those beatles poster?

  • This isn't suppose to be rockabilly...sorry you think it might be..this would be Dave Gilmour stuff...but you probably don't know who that is anyway..I'll be waiting to see some of your videos..

  • don't you think that's a bit rough and critical just because you think a guy can't play rockabilly? i know your trying to be witty but i think it's come out as overreactive

  • yeh sport, I don't see you putting your balls on the line for everyone to critique. go back to licking windows.

  • Please, Stripes. Let me hear you rock 'n roll. As of right now, you're a whole lot of nothing. So maybe you should talk like you are just that, and critique.

Shaun, sweet stuff. I'm buying this guitar on Monday and you just make me more excited to play it. And way to stand up to this douche bag too.

  • The flextone behind you perhaps jajajaj

  • Hey im digging the tone! what amp do you use?

  • Absolutely the best sounding guitars in the world! The Pro Jest kicks backside for a $500 guitar. Buy a $500 Gibson or Epiphone and you get a piece of junk. Play this in a Vox or Mesa Boogie Nomad and you are a rock God! Keep playin dude!

    Gretsch rocks in Hoosierland!

  • i`d like to hear some crunchy chords from this asskicker guitar!

  • Did Gretsch run out of ideas and decide to copy a Gibson Les Paul? ah who cares, It sounds better than a les paul anyways.

  • No actually if you look back in Gretsch history they made a guitar called a "Duo Jet" thats what this is from...not a les paul copy.

  • Yes I know about the duojets and whatnot, it still looks like a les paul though..maybe Gibson copied it.

  • Neither company copied it. The shape was a common used shape and was made to look like an acoustic guitar with the single cutaway being done by Gretsch and others on their Jazz guitars before the Les Paul was created. Do some research you'll find all you need to know all I know is this design WAS made to compete with the les paul but only mimics it in the way that Gretsch guitars of the time were mostly hollow body and this was a solid mahogany like the Les Paul.

  • i have a gretsch that looks just like that but its a double cut away

  • 2 questions;

    a) is your pro jet completely stock? (I've read a lot about people changing the tuners on them)

    b) what gear are you running it through, specifically, your amp?

you're a very tasty player, keep up the good work and don't listen to anyone or anything but the melodies you hear in your head.

  • I would love to hear it clean!! Post it if ya have it man! =-) Nice playing!

  • Thinking of getting a black one of these, This has a the Bigby tremolo bar right?

  • beatiful tone that guitar has

  • Great playing dude!!!

  • I've read several reviews that the tuners on the Pro Jet series are crap, that true?

  • the one im getting which has a fixed bridge and tail peice no bigsby does go outa tune pretty easy. i had to tune it like 7 times in the shop. im just gonna replace them when i get the guitar. im not aloud to have it till my birthday haha

  • Awesome tone, awesome playing, awesome guitar. How much was it? They have one kinda like that on musicians friend, but they said the bigsby makes it go out of tune.

  • ne whammy bar makes u go out of tune

  • hey buddy how are you liking the pro jet? im considering getting the non-bigsby version.

  • Wow a guitar player that good chose an import Gretsch, thats saying alot for imported Gretsch's maybe I should take a second look at 'em. But it'll be tough to pull me away from my '61 6120

  • i saw a video where david gilmour used a gretsch for comfortably numb.

  • too much fuckin delay...let us here the real tone of that guitar, boy.

  • try good tone and tastefull playing. nice.

  • Not rockabilly! Try Petegorilla

  • my videos? nope aint got any..never got round to it..and to answer you other question..yes i play...a 95 modified 6120,a modified 6128 duo jet and a 1943 epiphone blackstone archtop

  • ya gotta love the all out rockabilly energy this guy gives....his over the top facial expressions and his boundless enthusiasm....as for rockabilly...u suck....try listening to darrel higham....as a player u aint bad....thnx for the vid...hey dont take offence..just liven up

  • This video here isn't intended to be rockabilly. Its more a David Gilmour thing. Anyway, where's your videos?

  • it isnt rockabilly but its pretty good. i like it

  • you're so awseome man

  • wow dude thats a nice guitar

  • Not ROckabilly dude

  • P.S.

    THE BEATLES ROCK!! HAHAHA!!!

  • Sweet dude! You should be on stage jamming with Clapton. Real sweet sound and some nice vibrato!

  • NICE DUDE!!

  • real rockabillies dont have beatles posters, nice guitar though

  • Beatles were Rockabilly before they took over the world. Probably why we'll pay alot for a Duo Jet.

  • ur a fugly mole

  • I really like it. Nice subtle, tasteful use of the bigsby.

  • Good playing. Not very rockabilly though, which is a shame, because the Gretsch is such a great Rockabilly guitar. But then Neil Young played one in his burn-out punk phase, as did lots of jazz cats, which just shows how versatile a brand it was. I have a Rancher acoustic with the triangular sound-hole, which I have owned for the last forty years.

Send you a video If I get round it. Can't play as good as you though. Oh, and liked the kinda DA, too.

  • is that an electromatic pro jet?

    xx

  • i love that tone! what amp are you using and how much did you pay for your jet?

  • sweet!

  • I agree with 13star. Thats not gilmour at all, he plays with a crap-load of effects.

  • Nice Van Halen tone. Cool Beatles poster too.

  • sounds like the intro to 'shine on, you crazy diamond'... very gilmour-esque.

    i like!

  • wow this guy plays guitar like me!!

  • Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove it !

  • I think you just took a shit on all the shred players on this site. You made that Gretsch sing man! Awesome tone too :D

  • dude, i've got the same guitar. that was awesome, you've got skill :)
