How times should I put "3M performance finish" on my car. I use my car daily and its quite hot here in our country. Most of the time the car is bathing under the sun. Is twice a month enough? Tnx
@Denso2131 Hi there. I'd say that's more than enough. Under normal conditions and if the paint is prepared properly, you should expect 3-6 months protection. I usually apply more frequently, mostly because I like to, and once a month or every other month should be fine. You can top up in between with Quick Wax, though, as it's quicker and easier to do in between full applications of Performance Finish.
Ok so heres my problem, you put the wax on, then wipe it off straight away. how does the wax stay behind, cause you see the reminents of it in yoru cloth when you turn it.
Does it seperate or chemical reaction, how does it work please?
@bendover90 It bonds to your paint, that's why you must let it cure properly first before buffing, not sure specifically on how it dries, weather its chemical or just a natural thing which wax does i don't know
@bendover90 the wax bonds to the paint and fills tiny scratch mars slightly. The wax that hazes over is excess... mostly its just evaporated medium material that causes the drying effect. When you buff it your really just removing the excess wax and leaving behind a layer that is bonded to the paint. If you leave the wax on there too long (say you just missed buffing some of it) it becomes very difficult to take off and it will chip off instead of spreading.
So from what i understand you have to first wash the car properly(The actual car and the tires) then you clean the contamination of the car with a clay bar. then you remove small key scratchs and or small rust spots, then you wax the car as a protective layer to protect the car from future contamination and or rust, is this correct please correct me if im wrong ;)
@xbltester105 1 Clean, dry, clay, rinse, dry. At this point if you have serious rust you need to deal with that by sanding, repainting and then continuing... small scratches can be fixed with cutting or finishing compounds. At this point you can wax. I recomend using a protective polymer compound first (synthetic stuff that bonds strongly to the paint) then sealing it with Carnauba paste wax. That way your good for almost a year with a couple quick waxes between.
I think 3M has attempted to capitalize on their quality products in other industries..and now they want to use that credibility to churn out mediocre products. I think for the money there are better waxes and sealants that can be used to obtain greater results.
I just love these videos, so simple and informative, I had never used 3m products, though I will give them a try, especially wax and wheel cleaner. Thx for the post
@vtec2907 If you prep it properly first (clay to remove any old wax and contaminants) and then put a layer on, you should be ok for that time. Our shampoo won't remove any wax either, so maybe use that for extra durability.
@daniellandgrens Hi Daniel, there's a Scotchgard paint sealant almost ready for launch but not available right now. If you want ultimate paint conservation, you could use our VentureShield paint protection film. Thanks.
Paul Dalton is an absolute Legend, worlds No1 Refinisher and Detailer. I have been detailing cars for about 10 years now (part time on the side) and dream of being as good as him. I am good, but unfortunately Paul Dalton is in a league of his own, well ahead of any and everyone else. I am hoping i can afford and he will lower his usual clients to detail my car once the restoration is complete (Rare E30 BMW).
@carwash1009 Sorry, can't really comment on other manufacturer's products and what they are/are not. The 3M Performance Finish is a synthetic wax, though, whilst Quick Wax is Carnauba based.
@3MCarCare Because you refused to answer that simple question simply because it related to a rival company's product has ensured that I will not be buying your product in the future...
@Silverchair84 Depends on how often you wash the car and what you use, but you should be looking at 3-6 months with Performance Finish and up to a month with Quick Wax if you use the 3M shampoo, as it safely removes dirt without removing wax protection.
@MtK123456789 No, it doesn't. It's actually a Meguiar's foam applicator pad, which we've found to be really good for wax application. They're available as separate items so you should be able to get hold of them.
Are these products available in the US? If so, what retail stores carry them? I am a huge believer in other 3M products. If these work as good as those, I want in!
No, don't use too much pressure; it goes on quite easily so just make sure you apply a thin, even layer to one panel at a time and then remove (again, without too much pressure) with a clean microfibre.
