To defend his point though, the traditional British atheist does not need to defend his position as much as the traditional American atheist does, as the traditional Particularly Stupid American Theist (migkiller, for example) is on average far more distanced from reality - and vocal about it - than the traditional Particularly Stupid British Theist. Makes sense.

My favorite example of a deux ex machina in a movie was in the relatively recent "Tropic Thunder." Towards the end the cast is about to be killed by an RPG, but then the main character's agent randomly jumps out of the jungle with a TIVO, and uses it to deflect the RPG, after which he quickly vanishes into the jungle again. There are a million questions you could ask about how that happened, but so much crazy stuff happened over the movie you just throw up your arms and accept it.
