  • Interesting video, depressing and frustrating comments. Everybody just relax and get some real exposure to the guard before you spew forth inanities about breaking legs. Take the time to roll with an adept guard- player and learn. Then comment.

  • Judo The best.

    Brasil. "Elias"

  • Remember I was here.Thai 5:40PM 10/23/2011

  • When Ne-waza en all the control and strangulation techniques were practiced in Japan , Brazil was a big jungle with indigenous population. we have also some jewish who claimed the grav maga ,but in reality its no more than jew- jitsu.

  • Judo rules!!!!!! Ossss

  • Remember this is where bjj come from judo! Judo the father! Osss

  • I've been saying this for ages.

  • Helio Gracie is true master in is own art....

  • Gracie's DIDN'T invent SHIT!

Sensei's like ODA, AIDA, KAWAISHI, MIFUNE were doing this when the Gracie's where wearing diapers!!!

Classical Judo is a Kanzen Bugei

  • @CQB72 Ye and there are actually Brazilian BJJ guys with no lineage back to the Gracies but to other Brazilians who Maeda taught, the other day in BJJ class a purple belt came out with a classic "that used to be a Judo sub" I couldn't b bothered to tell him they were all Judo subs except some of these news ones which r really low percentage anyway.

  • arte suave!!!!jiujitsu na veia!!!!!!!

  • 6:58

    omg!! Omoplata!!

  • why you OMG?

Its Judo newaza these things existed before BJJ.

    Judo invented BJJ

  • @judoandpeace

these guys just think that they invented a lot of moves because they weren't taught to carlos gracie by maeda. they probably only learned the basics. but good job by helio to "invent" them again.

  • The Gracies have claimed they invented a new art because they created new ground techniques. These techniques were claimed to have never existed in traditional jiu-jitsu and judo. The claim is false. The lies have been revealed from videos such as Oda's. The Gracie philosophy has been discredited and morons like yourself keep pushing for the gracie's philosophy of idiocy. Thus, running into a slippery slope.

  • ive never heard they invented techniques that were never there before .New techs have developed over time but are mostly variations and diff applications or set ups of existing techs eg eddie bravos stuff. However i agree that rorian in particular has lied and manipulated for profit,I wouldnt trust a word out of his mouth.

  • @moelicious416 I don't know where you got your facts from but you are completely wrong. Please let me know where you found this out because I'm very interested in reading it. Just so you know traditional Japanese jiu-jitsu differs from BRAZILIAN jiu-jitsu.

P.S. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one........ except yours is wrong!!!!

  • @djgreenway822 yes, traditional jiu jitsu differs from brazilian jiu jitsu, but bjj is a copy right infringement from kodokan judo. none of the moves were invented by the gracies. the rubber guard was always in existence from mifune and the omoplata, which gracies have claimed to invented was also demonstrated by mifune sensei. the olympic movement diminished newaza, but the gracies had marketed the art to popularity. that is their credit, but nothing more.

  • @moelicious416

Maybe so. But with out the Gracies submission wrestling as we know it today would be dead. It would have been killed and buried by the constantly evolving rules put out by Kodokan. Even now rules are being put out regarding judo tournaments which weaken the art, and make it even less relevant to self defense. I'm talking about limiting attacks to the legs such as double leg take downs. The Gracie's may not have invented submission wrestling. But they sure as hell saved it!

  • @insdel2004 Hey buddy, i agree with you . The Gracies are amazing. They've proven it. However, the only thing i can't respect them for is their claim of a "new Art". Isao Okano sensei also stated in a bjj magazine that the Gracie's hav not created anything new. They did revive newaza and MUST be credited for bringing ground work to a new level. espceially Rickson and Royce. Two thumbs for Gracies for excellence but not invention.

  • @moelicious416 Rickson and Royce? Rickson and Royce were great competitors, not technicians. Are you still in the 90s or what? Every talented BJJ master creates and introduces new techniques in each 6 months. On the other hand, judo guys are free to lament their old masters and play the crybaby.

  • @EunusRex don't get me wrong, the gracies are great submission specialists. they are good and they too are of the past.

  • @moelicious416 And don't get me wrong too, I have profound respect for judo. On the other hand, when they say BJJ "stole" techniques from judo, they are being ridiculous. First of all, judo is the parental art to BJJ. Second, BJJ kept and further improved many newaza. Many of these techniques have long been lost in judo (last significant practitioners were Oda, Mifune, etc.) whereas they have reached certain levels of subtlety in BJJ.

  • @EunusRex You've never seen a Kosen tournament, have you?

  • @insdel2004 Ye I just went back to Judo recently to be told that you can no longer grab the legs when looking for a throw, really stupid rule. I'd like to see competitions where u at least have to attempt a proper take down to start the ground fighting (not just pull guard) but u where u need a pin or submission 2 end the contest before the scheduled time is up.

  • @Jimmynable leg takedowns Not a IJF rule this came down from olympic committee to distance Judo from wrestling and before any one makes the lame comment it was becuase wrestlers were getting take downs on Judoka WRONG

  • @glock70 I see, tbh my favorite throws were always shoulder throws anyway Judo is still awesome.

  • @Jimmynable I agree, leg picks being illegal is a stupid rule.

  • @BloodofPatriots I think u can still do it as a counter?

  • @moelicious416 Agreed. Also it's not right for them to change the names of techniques that already have been called something else. If they don't want to use the Japanese names then call it what it translates to in Portuguese or something.

  • @moelicious416 Amen, Gracie are full of shiit!

  • @moelicious416 Helio Gracie modified Judo/Jui jitsu to adapt to his small frame using "THE GUARD" this is what makes BJJ Compliment The Judo/Jui jitsu techniques. For your information also Jui jitsu/Judo was modified from Chinese "CHI NA" & Chinese GU FU from INDIA when Indian monk Buddhamara came to teach some monks in China. Its not a matter of styles or country. Its just nature of humans to evolve what they can learn that works. They all had a "OPEN MIND" .

  • @108estilong The link between martial arts techniques and styles in India, China, and Japan are unrecognizable since they occurred over a thousand years. The link between Kodokan Judo and the bullshit "gracie" (I will not give that name the respect of capitalization) is clear and undeniable: Mitsuyo Maeda. The gracies invented nothing, as the video above and the treatise of "Newaza no Oda" proves. BJJ means "Basically Just Judo."

  • @BloodofPatriots your right the majority of newaza techniques were not exclusive to the Gracie family back then. Can i ask you a question? have u seen Judokas using open or closed guard?

A thousand years ago is far but would u know the link between Aiki jitsu, Aikido, Jui jitsu , Judo? ask you this for you to recognise arts evolves /changes through people , through time.

  • @108estilong Yes. Judokas do use the guard, but not as a stagnant position. As BJJ'ers in MMA have been learning over the last 2 years or so, the guard is not a good place to try to mount offense if your opponent knows its weakness ("stacking"). Judokas use the guard as a transitory position, usually pushing off with a butterfly guard or sweeping to gain a better position or lock up a choke or arm lock to end the fight. In Tsunetane Oda invented the technique of "pulling guard."

  • @108estilong At my dojo we get yelled at if we close the guard. If someone closes the guard on me, always have the option to break their knees..Ofcourse it is illegal in Judo, but my Sensei taught it to me so that I understand the danger of locking yourself to an opponent. Hell my sensei preffers that we do not hold anyone on half guard for more of a few seconds. He prefers that we let them pass or try to regain guard and stand up right away

  • @franciscoreatas11 theres a difference between sport jujitsu & jujitsu 4 self defence. Im assume u practice judo. Im practicing judo myself (just started) to improve my stand up gi game. I also do BJJ which ive done for 5 years now. Basic rule in closed guard u learn in BJJ is to break their posture! if there posture is broken down its very very unlikely u can break knees while in sm1s closed guard. But yes u can if U have good posture start setting up attacks.

  • @108estilong1 Next time someone closes guard on you, as soon as you regain your posture step over their body. all you need is to have your torso straight up. doing this will flip them over and they will be face down. In Judo you can apply an akiles tendon lock (I think it is still legal), if you want to break knees do what it is done in the following catch wrestling video. My 150 pound, 70 year sensei did the step over on me to teach me a lesson. youtube.com/watch?v=VPha1juY6sY&feature=related

  • @franciscoreatas11 Letting some one pass ur LEGS is a down grade on your position as your limited use of ur arms, hips. U cn still escape but why put a handicap for urself? when u can use other parts of ur body that are stronger? everything has advantages & disadvantages When u get more experience u get the wisdom to know the difference & knw how/when/ to use it.

  • @108estilong1 Rainy Martinez from Mitts and Matts in Tucson can do a kimura and other submissions if we hold him on a half guard. Brock Lessnar beat the crap out of mier the second time they fought because mier held lessnar on a half guard. Rainy's says, if you hold someone on a half guard, then you are locking yourself to them. If on half guard, Rainy get on a pseudo side control position, and then he goes for a kimura, amongts other things..

  • @BloodofPatriots Every art has merit. Judo evolved from traditional jui jitsu. But in doing that it has become an exciting martial arts to watch in the olympics. Similar in the way Taek wondo evolved from other orean martial arts like Hapkido, Hwarang, Taekyon. Maybe check out Dave Camarillo his Judo/Jui jitsu Blackbelt. You may see how he used what works in both arts.

  • @108estilong "Jui" is a spic spelling. You'll never find it in English translations of traditional Japanese "Ju-Jitsu" or simple "Jujitsu." Traditional Kodokan Judo is a complete martial art, including strikes (taught at the black belt level). Because of its reliance on full speed, full power randori, Judokas are much stronger and physically tougher than BJJ'ers who prefer to lay on the floor all day. Getting slammed to the ground hundreds of times in practice tends to toughen a person.

  • @moelicious416 Now MMA is EVOLVING also where you will eventually get an individual who can master all ranges of combat & put all togther. Its not the art that matters its the INDIVIDUAL expressing self, cheers

  • @108estilong His name is Rory MacDonald. He's the first and best of the new "complete" generation of MMA fighters. Only 21, he's eaten BJJ guys for breakfast (Knocked out Mike Pyle, Nate Diaz still has bruises from being slammed 3 times). When he started training MMA, he worked on every aspect of MMA equally. Most MMA fighters began training in a single martial art (Striking, Grappling), but not the new generation. They're going to be a hell of a lot of fun in the next decade.

  • @moelicious416 ANd what bothers me more is that brazilian gayjitsus trully believe that Judo only has throws. I am a begineer Judo player. I havenever been submitted by bjj guys, the highest i grappled with was a strong brown belt that trains under demetrious rios, I was not impresed. I train at a dojo Headed by Rainy Martinez, whose sensei is Steve Owens, who comes from Rendokan Dojo in Tucson. A while ago they had a seminar by Sensei Okada, who I believe is the last living disciple of Oda.

  • shameful that you have to defend gracies who invented nothing. your argument is running a slippery slope fallacy.. lol.

  • anyway dip shit, this isn't english class. point is made..

  • royce would of gotten choked out.. he gracie's complain too much. they are nothing more than great marketer's for business.

  • hell yeah fairplay tell that bitch !!!

  • Sorry but Im simply refering to facts. Sorry if you feel mad about them. But it may not be your fault anyway. Maybe your bjj guru have brainwashed you and thats why you are reluctant to see the reality. However if you feel envios of T.Oda don´t watch this vid, if you can´t fuck yourself tell your personal bjj guru to fuck you. Liar.

  • Stop shit talking.

Remco never got any gold medal in the Olympics or european champs nor did Spijkers and in the fight against renzo he had the disadvantage of being the one with the gi. Yoshida NEVER admitted an early stoppage, simply because there was non (Yoshida had already deeply sunk the gi in royce´s neck and royce was no longer fighting, he had abandoned which is non combativity and he never jumped up as some claim that´s all in the vid!! you foul!!)

  • Gracie's were dodging Oleg takarov.. The russian would of destroyed royce.

  • the only thing taktarov would have caught rotce with was a leglock, certainly not a choke.I always thought oleg was a poor fighter in terms of skill, had no striking and relied entirely on toughness and ok grappling. He got mauled by a useless bt fearsome tank abott only to get a choke at the end due to tanks horseshit cardio.Royce was nothing great either but his strategy worked at the time.

  • Stop being a MTF Lier. Neither remco or ben spijkers were judo champions at all!! Not even kato was light weight champ as the GR.. like to claim he was only a second importance travel partner of kimura (by the way, he is not in your post.!!) Except kimura, he NEVER fought any remarquable judoist and finally royce got submtted by yoshida in a grappling match which of course he didn´t digest but in the end it was a baby cry

    Don´t be a liar.

  • I dont believe you ;)

  • (-_-)zZzZZZ

  • WOW! XD

    This beats BJJ anyday

  • wow... what year was this made?

  • i love old school videos

  • As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt these are very good techniques. I wish the video was more clear though

  • Yeah thanks

  • "As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt?" WTF?

You just had to say you were a BJJ BB didn't you? As if Oda and his technique need the approval of a BJJ Black Belt.

Man, the Gracies are going to be pissed that this cat stole "Their" moves. :) You are probably one of those BJJ nut huggers that are in denial about your "Art".

    Judo Newaza = BJJ

    Let me try

As an Iraqi Freedom & Enduring Freedom combat vet, you're a fucking tool and a disgrace to actual martial artists.

  • I have heard about Oda sensei before, they said sparring with him was like fighting a octopus. Amazing, thank you for posting this vid.

  • lol

  • simply amazing. this is priceless.
