Why did they focus on the white guy at the back? Thinking he'd do a Dave Wottle? Welcome to 75% of 800m races. The field is too big here; a back runner has no chance in such a huge field. There should be 8.
If you buy a book on athletics or browse one in the library, there are two groups of flat races: 100 - 400 and 800 up. Very soon, you might see 100 - 800 and 1500 up. It has gone from a crazy middle distance dash to a sprint.

@RealCarlos10 dude just SHUT THE FUCK UP. No you could not lap him you fckn stupid Mexican trash. I bet you can't even do a fckn mile in less then 5 minutes you obese faggot, go troll somewhere else.
@TheFlora123456789 Ethiopia has really fast distance runners and Semenya Caster is from South Africa. People from Sudan and Somalia also prosper not only in track but also in other sports like basketball and football. And thats not even all just to name a few...
Very impressive world record, mainly due to an astronomical margin of victory. More to that, Rudisha is so young, in a few years he can surely improve yet.
Wow he runs with incredible strength. The pace setter didn't even matter. Usually they make it to the 500. David was like forget you pace setter, I'm setting a world record today.
@deluxesondeluxe They don't need one, 400 is a very different kind of race, nobody holds back on their speed. More like full speed for 250 meters, then try not to slow down.
It's also in staggered lanes so everyone has something to chase except for lane 8.
@deluxesondeluxe They are also used to encourage the main runner to stay caught up to the pacemaker so that he doesn't lose his pace and fall behind of his desired time.
a pacemaker/rabbit is someone who tries to help get his teammates ahead by going faster so his team can follow them, they drop out because they arent rly trained in running in the 800
@KOLORADOXx Have you never heard of Sebastian Coe, the British athlete who held the 800 metres world record for 18 years (from July 1979 'till August 1997)?
Have you never heard of Jeremy Wariner, the American athlete who Gold in the 400 metres at the Olympic Games in 2004? He also won Gold medals - in the same event - at the World Athletics Championships in 2005 and 2007, respectively. What is more, he is one of the favourites to win the 400 metres title
@KOLORADOXx [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about white athletes who have excelled at the Olympic Games, in track events] at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Have you never heard of Valeriy Borzov, the Ukranian athlete who stunned the American media (and public) by winning both the 100 and 200 metres sprint events at the Munich Olympic Games, back in September 1972.
All of the aforementioned athletes are IC1 ("white") men.
@meekmillin Actually, the pacemaker never finished the race. A 48.65 400m is pretty fucking good compared to my time, but for an elite runner, a 45 second 400m is very possible.
@lololol36 i know the pace maker didnt finish lol i run track and kno its rules and stuff. anyway, i meant that if he could run that fast and be comfortable(he has to be to be a pace maker and run that pace when he needs to) then he's up there, and im aware that he prolly runs a 45 or a 44 and im pretty jealous since my best is only a 52. u misunderstood wat i said lol buts its cool
Thanks for answering my question:] You guys are so nice.
Nevertheless, I have another doubt: "if the pacemaker/rabbit can run so fast, why doesn't he continuously run to win the championship instead of giving the chance to David to win the champion??"
Because he's not allowed to. He's paid to run as a pacemaker and not to win the race. If he does, his reputation as a pro pace maker is over :) so it is in his best interest not to. He makes quite a lot per race so he would not want to sacrifice that.
@Lettuce008 It's because he's paid to be a pacesetter, so he isn't allowed to win. Also, he isn't as fast as David. He can only run that fast because he is running for less distance. If he had tried to finish, after running at that speed, he'd have tied up, and probably come last :)
@MelbourneMaster He was at his tax lol, otherwise the pace setter would have either went on to 600m or even an attempt to win the race but his job was to make sure David would get the world record
@Aidokinn He lead, pulled over to the side, and then dropped out because he was a rabbit/pacer who is supposed to go out and hit a certain distance in a certain time and after that pull over to the side and drop out.
@n1e9g9r4o The 800 metres is NOT a sprint; it is a middle-distance event, which requires a great deal more than sheer speed. In order to be a world-class 800 runner, an athlete needs to possess a exceptionally high degree of speed endurance, as well as a fairly high level of sprinting ability/pure speed, and a fairly high level of pure endurance. In addition to these qualities, a world class 800 metres runner must have a high weight/strength ratio.
@Siroucity Yes, it is certainly within the bounds of possiblility that the 1:40.00 (i.e 100 second) barrier will be broken in the foreseeable future. I am not sure that Mr Rudisha has got the potential to run quite that fast though. He does not have sufficient basic speed/sprinting ability to break the elusive 1:40 barrier for 800 metres, in my humble opinion.
Unless I am very much mistaken, the first man to run two laps of the track - i.e. 800m - in under 100 seconds will be
@TheEctomorph Well David's 400m is actually very fast; 45.50 seconds. If you compare this to Sebastian Coe's fastest 400m (not under 47 seconds) then David should only train some more endurance. Sebastian Coe's endurance + David Rudisha's speed = definately a world record in under 1.40.00. Unfortunately it may be too late for him to focus more on endurance right now, so I bet my cash on Mohammed Aman or Leonard Kirwa Kosencha. Perhaps even Kaki? Let's find out!
@MySonOfSam I think that I am correct in saying that Lord Coe ran 400 metres in a time of 46.87 on one occasion, back in the summer of 1979. That said, he didn't have the same sort of speed (as a quarter miler) as David Rudisha. However, Coe's powers of endurance and his VO max were pretty remarkable.
@TheEctomorph Yea you're right, I read on a site he never ran below 47 seconds but his IAAF-profile says 46.87 indeed. Well I hope you're also right saying that Rudisha will get the world record down to 1.40.50, can't wait for him to achieve that! Though I also read an interview where he said that training for fast times is different when training for championchips, so I wonder if he chooses to focus on Londen 2012 or the world record.
@MySonOfSam Perhaps David Rudisha will win the Olympic 800 metres title in August 2012, and then go on to set a new world record for that event a year later. That would not surprise me in the least. Let us not forget that the excellent Kenyan half-miler will still only be 24 years of age in the summer of 2013.
Incidentally, I think that he has the physical potential to break Noah Ngengy's 1000 metres world record (which was set over 12 years ago, in the summer of 1999). That record
@MySonOfSam [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about D. Rudisha] stands at 2:11.96. I believe that Rudisha could knock at least 0.10 of a second off of that time - if he starts taking the one kilometre distance seriously.
That said, I have my doubts as to whether this big, tall Kenyan athlete is capable of becoming a great miler/1500 metres runner (although he may prove me wrong in due course).
@Siroucity [Continuing on from my previous post about the elusive 1:40 barrier]: a powerfully built, 'jumped up' 400 metres star, with considerable sprinting ability and a personal best time - for the quarter mile - of under 44.00 seconds.
Mr Rudisha is a brilliant athlete, and is certainly potentially capable of running 800m in less than 1:41.00. He MAY become the first man in history to dip under 1:40, but personally I think that it is somewhat unlikely.
@TheEctomorph The sad thing is you're probably right. Historically, the 800m record breakers get two seasons where they're pushing the envelope timewise. Juantorena had '76/'77, Coe '79/'81, Cruz '84/'85, Kipketer '96/'97. By my count, Rudisha just had his two fast years. He says himself that he won't focus on time until after the London Olympics.
@Siroucity Let us not forget, however, that big David Rudisha is still only 22 years of age. (I believe that he turns 23 next month.) When Sebastian Coe broke the 800 metres record in June 1981, he was just a few months away from his 25th birthday. As regards Mr Juantorena - the heavily muscled, 'jumped up' 400 metres star, who astonished most athletics pundits and stastisticians by winning the 800 metres (as well as his original event) at the Montreal Olympic Games - I believe that he
@Siroucity [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about the optimum age for an 800 metres runner] was 26 years of age when he set his second (and last) 800 metres world record, in the August of 1977. The big Cuban's time, if memory serves, was 1:43.44. Even by the standards of today, that is still a very good performance - but the fact remains that there are at least 25 blokes who have run faster than that since 1979.
@Siroucity [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about the optimum age for an 800 metres runner] However, the elusive - and very, very formidable - 1:40.00 barrier remains intact, as we approach the year 2012.
I predict that the tall, lanky Kenyan half-miler (David Rudisha) will eventually get the world record down to around 1:40.50 (which,of course, would be a very fine achievement)... but I fear that a time of 1:39.99 is beyond even his reach.
@kozmon0t i am not contesting that. i am just pointing out that if that rabbit had stayed in until 600, Rudisha would have been in less control of the pace and quite possibly have run a slower time
@soggysausage I thought the rabbit had more left after 400, but I watched the intros again and his PR was 1.49, so you're right, he couldn't have done that
Give Rudisha a rabbit who can lead him through 49.5 and 114.5 and he'll be in the mid-140's.
@MisterAndrewJackson Thank you for bring so understanding. I might have to make another Youtube account because I have so many inbox messages from people who cursed me out for nothing.
@MikeLawrence101 Depending on where you come from it's not accesible for 'normal people'... he's wearing a sprintsuit anyways, and I also wanted one like that (he also has a cool green sprintsuit which he wore in Rieti) but unfortunately I couldn't get one.... Adidas only wants the elite to wear their sportswear
Damn my 14 year old brat sister caused all of this shit. Okay first off I'm 18. I don't run track. I did when I was little 10-17 but not anymore. Next, my sister hacked my account and said all of this crap and I don't even know where all of these rude comments are coming from. Third she thinks she can run track. She "says" she got a 2:01 but she got a 2:38. I was at her track meet when she claimed this. I'm sorry for all of this. Sorry for the cursing and all of the fake stuff. I fell like crap!
First of all shut the fuck up. Second of all i am a 'Masai' you're the moron. And no we don't have to kill a Lion, it would be against the fucking law, its just a right of passage thing that is old. Stop commenting based on feelings dumbfuck.

MySonOfSam 3 months ago
@MySonOfSam I think that I am correct in saying that Lord Coe ran 400 metres in a time of 46.87 on one occasion, back in the summer of 1979. That said, he didn't have the same sort of speed (as a quarter miler) as David Rudisha. However, Coe's powers of endurance and his VO max were pretty remarkable.
TheEctomorph 3 months ago
@TheEctomorph Yea you're right, I read on a site he never ran below 47 seconds but his IAAF-profile says 46.87 indeed. Well I hope you're also right saying that Rudisha will get the world record down to 1.40.50, can't wait for him to achieve that! Though I also read an interview where he said that training for fast times is different when training for championchips, so I wonder if he chooses to focus on Londen 2012 or the world record.
MySonOfSam 3 months ago

TheEctomorph 3 months ago
@Siroucity [Continuing on from my previous post about the elusive 1:40 barrier]: a powerfully built, 'jumped up' 400 metres star, with considerable sprinting ability and a personal best time - for the quarter mile - of under 44.00 seconds.
Mr Rudisha is a brilliant athlete, and is certainly potentially capable of running 800m in less than 1:41.00. He MAY become the first man in history to dip under 1:40, but personally I think that it is somewhat unlikely.
TheEctomorph 3 months ago
@TheEctomorph The sad thing is you're probably right. Historically, the 800m record breakers get two seasons where they're pushing the envelope timewise. Juantorena had '76/'77, Coe '79/'81, Cruz '84/'85, Kipketer '96/'97. By my count, Rudisha just had his two fast years. He says himself that he won't focus on time until after the London Olympics.
Siroucity 3 months ago

TheEctomorph 3 months ago
@TheEctomorph I agree with you that David Rudisha will probably be the first guy to break 1.41.00 and to set a time of 1.40.50 though.

the rabbit should have stayed in until 600 and he might have broke 141
kozmon0t 6 months ago
@kozmon0t that's impossible
soggysausage 6 months ago
@soggysausage the record is 141.01 now, so it's gotta be possible to run 140.
it's the 100-second barrier.
kozmon0t 6 months ago
@kozmon0t i am not contesting that. i am just pointing out that if that rabbit had stayed in until 600, Rudisha would have been in less control of the pace and quite possibly have run a slower time
soggysausage 6 months ago
@soggysausage I thought the rabbit had more left after 400, but I watched the intros again and his PR was 1.49, so you're right, he couldn't have done that
Give Rudisha a rabbit who can lead him through 49.5 and 114.5 and he'll be in the mid-140's.
