  • Whew! Love it!

  • Beautiful!!!!!! :)

  • Beautiful ! One of my favorits by Eva.

  • Incredible. Thanks for posting.

  • WOW! This is TOTALLY different take from the versions by Enya that I'd previously heard. She is a genius.

  • what a beautiful voice

  • This song will always lift my spirits up. Eva Cassidy, though you are in heaven, you are and always will be, amazing.

  • perfect pitch, power, feeling, heart and soul - EVA outshines the best of them. She reaches each note PERFECTLY and EFFORTLESSLY...how did she slip though the record companies fingers? The mainstream music of the time had no place for the likes of Eva's style of music, much to their regret today. I hear every note of hers (no matter which track I listen to) and get so emotional from the sheer power and perfection of her voice. She moves me. You hear Eva, and you believe there must be a god

  • I already loved this special soul. With chills and tears, I hear God's voice ringing through her. All I can say is "Sing!'

  • @gabryblues82 she sang a version too. With lots more pathos.

  • amen.

  • Prosepp, I hope you are going to compile many more videos of Eva. You are doing it beautifully. I just love Eva! Have only "met" her on my birthday on New Years Eve 2010 and am hooked! And her value is even GREATER because she is not with us anymore! Poppie from South Africa ♥

  • I can only think of 2 other singers that are comparable, or perhaps I should say, equally incomparable - Mahalia Jackson, and Aretha Franklin.

  • Uplifting and soulful!

  • her life really does go on in an endless song

  • It's great to hear a true gospel version.. I heard Enya's first, and I'm not a religious person, but this is version is great!

  • better voice than anyone on any radio today she was and is a star!

  • now her version is the original melody, but it is sung as gospel instead of congregational singing...k

  • To sing like this with such feeling all the while going through what she did.It is amazing

  • Anyone have the accompaniment for this song?

  • Prosepp, I thank you for using my favorite singer for your video. When I first played it, I thought of Martin Tazl because he used the sepia effect in many of his photographs. Perhaps that is why the lady in the quarter profile seems familiar. I also think that he would have liked it as well. A very nice video in every way.

  • this is different .. can you explain what the pictures mean, haha sorry

  • Different.

what a great song!!! thanks! ;o)

  • Negro soul with her special touch.

  • DAMN, this is the same Eva Cassidy that sang Fields of Gold!!! Go ahead, girl!!! Miss Cassidy got soul!!!

  • She's wonderful isn't she! The world lost a singer with the capacity, easily, to be the best female artist since the 70s, 80s & 90s I read a short note about her several years ago. Actually I don't know why I thought it was necessary to look her up. Time passed and I forgot her name and the HD on my old computer was gone. I found her thru Google. Given her propensity to play just small clubs I would have poured out my soul to her for her hand. Sounds corny but true- a prize above all!!!

  • Awesome, Awesome,Awesome.

  • I close my eyes and bust my lungs trying to sing along to this song... I'm not sure the neighbours appreciate it but it certainly makes me smile.

  • @RoxanneDionne

    Hell yeah! :D

  • Eva Cassidy is amazing!! What a loss!!

She is surely singing with the angels!!

  • This should be moved to the site at the Bayou when Eva had a going away party. party given to her. No pun intended. Who else could make the sorrows of life be uplifed? Celebrate life during life. My wife once asked me should we visit an aunt of hers dying with pancreatic cancer now while she was alive or her funeral? I said we must now because after she's gone it'll have no meaning to either of them.

  • Wow

  • thank you

  • may your mother also rest in peace !

  • One of my favourite Eva songs.

  • Pete Seeger learned a version of this song from Doris Plenn, who had it from her North Carolina family. His version made this song fairly well known in the folk revival of the 1960s. Seeger's version omits much of the Christian wording of the original, and adds a verse. Most folk singers, including Enya, have followed Seeger's version.

  • "How Can I Keep From Singing?" (listed in some hymnals by the opening line "My Life Flows On") is a Christian hymn written by American Baptist minister Robert Wadsworth Lowry in 1860. The original composition has now entered into the public domain. The song is frequently cited incorrectly as a traditional Quaker hymn.

  • Darn betsey1950, I wish that were true, because I'm a Quaker! I love this song, and Eva's voice is sublime.

  • loving this ......just heard for the first time of many.......

  • thanks for your comment

  • amen to this

    Liebe Grüße an Dich Sepp.

    Eduard

  • 3:20~3:35 is pretty amazing. You'd never guess she could sing like that if you only heard her beautiful slow ballads. Not many professional singers can sing like this either. The other slower versions I watched on YT is really boring and gay, btw...

  • greetings to you

  • She's got soul! This is actually pretty good, but personally, I prefer the more gentler versions.

  • anyway, i send some greetings to you !

  • maybe you think its murder of a beautiful song.

First and most of all, this video has been made for a special person, using her photos and Eva Cassidys song, as this person wanted that.

At that time i had not thought that anyone else might be interested in this video.

So what shall i do ?? Shall i delete it ?? But i think i will not delete it, as there´s also positive comments, and why should i disappoint all the other people beacuse of your so far singular point of view.

    greetings

  • Please don't delete this, I love the song!!!

  • i don´t delete it. That rhetorical question just was the answer to a comment

    best wishes for 2009

  • LOL! Of course, you are a brit. LOLOL! Every time.

  • hmmmm, just thinking about who the brit is *lol

    greetings to you

  • Nothing wrong with making money. When artist conform to a formula and the strong arm of labels, they cease to be artist. Politics is what artist try to avoid.... in my opinion.

  • What a soul and heart this girl has. I named my daughter after her. Eva Cassidy was to good for commerical music and now she brings such joy to anyone! This is my favorie gospel song.

  • "commercial". Think this one word says it all.

Real music will always be far from being commercial. When music (or artists) get commercial, the music gets heartless and dead.

    Greetings to you

  • This song makes me glad to be alive in my darkest moments. "My lif goes on in endless song, above it's lamentation"

  • may her music give always power and rdfreshment to you

    greetings

  • Still wonderful. Eva and Kerry Ellis (starring

in Wicked) are always booming out of my stereo speakers these days.

  • i can understand that.

I must confess i didn´t know her before i was asked to make this video. But i like it more and more

  • Thanks, Prosepp. I have three of EC's Cds

and a homemade one with all my favourites,

    especially this one.

  • She must be singing this in heaven and leading the heavenly choir. What a testimony it is to know that you are dying and to make sure that this kind of song is on one of your albums. May her soul rest in peace. God bless her for leaving this song.

  • Yeh, I would like this song to be played (or song by a choir) during my funeral too.

  • Eva sings it soooo well. Thanks for posting!

Planning this version for the final song at my funeral (when it comes!)

only 20 today, but never too soon to plan these things!

  • One of my favourite Eva songs. Is that her eye? Looks like it.

  • no, this is the eye of the person, who had asked me to make the video for her.

First it has only been made for her, so i am always very surprised how many people watch and like it

  • From the first note to the last, of everything Eva Cassidy ever sung, her incomparable voice just touches the heart. An incredible talent and a voice that will last forever.

  • I can only imagine how famous she would have been. what a great movie her life could make.

  • I absolutely *love* Eva Cassidy's arrangement of "How Can I Keep From Singing?"

She takes that song and totally brings out her own version that's 10 times as beautiful as the original arrangement.

  • Eva's Mom Barbara: "She loved living things and was open and aware. If she saw a little bug upside down, she would turn him over and let him run, or if people left invisible fishing lines at the pier she would roll

them up and put them in a trashcan.

Once she started swerving her truck on this

empty country road. I said,'What are you

doing?' and she said,'Mom, don't you see?

There were little wooly bear brown caterpillars all over the road and she

    didn't want to hit them.

  • Alex Ward, of the New York Times, said:

"She possessed a silken soprano voice with

a wide and seemingly effortless range, unerring pitch and a gift for phrasing that

    was heart-stoppingly eloquent."

  • This is my favourite Eva song, even more

than Fields of Gold. Love it!! Thank you.

  • Verty good, nice version. I feel it looses the celtic vib of clannad though.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG- SO UPLIFTING.

  • klasse!!! 5+

  • Only with one word.....Great!!!! ;o)
