just thinking aloud..and its easy to look back, and i know that they were trying to big up Tuesday in Texas but i think they dropped one by not having at least Jake and Sid Justice in the final match, Jake Roberts never featured in a match at nethier Summerslam 1991 or Survivor Series 1991, bit of a waste i think. hey ho
they tried the flair and hogan matches up until wrestlemania.. but the matches weren't that good ... so in order to avoid a stinker as the main event.. they booked it the other way
jake could draw heat like no other that guy had mic skills like no other he should have been a champion too bad he let his demons get the best of him he was hands down the best heel "he who imitates evil always exceeds the example while he who imitates good always falls short of the example " that is mastery
You've got to respect the commentary from Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan when Flair showed up in the WWF. You had Bobby Heenan singing Ric Flair's praises all day long, and then on the other hand you had Monsoon, who respected what Flair did in WCW and the NWA, but still wanted to see Flair prove himself in the WWF. That type of commentary today is just so rare and hard to find in wrestling. Just another reason why Gorilla and Brain were the best broadcast duo of all time.
Gorilla Monsoon didn't cut Ric Flair any slack at all in his commentary when Flair came to the WWF. I know Monsoon isn't ignorant. Hell, he probably had a tremendous amount of respect for Flair just like any of his would have, but when Flair showed up from WCW, the attitude that came across in Monsoon's commentary was pretty clear: "Fuck what you did in the NWA/WCW. This is not WCW. This is the WWF. You have to prove yourself here. You're not going to get a free pass from me on commentary".
@Jessyleppert I believe this was after Ric Flair returned the NWA title to the WCW. So afterwards, he was using the WWF Tag Team title belt. And I guess to hide the fact that he was using that belt, they started the angle of video disturbing the belt.
Classic Bait and Switch by WWE. Forcing people to hold off on the Savage vs Roberts confrontation because they wanted people to pay more money for Tuesday in Texas the following week.
The ending of this Survivor Series was extremely weak as well, with the 3 on 3 match, but I guess that was Vince's strategy ... to leave people wanting more so they would order Tuesday in Texas.
@britishhedgehog are you trying to say that today's PG is is the same as this classic stuff? nah dude this was Family Entertainment Fun for the Entire family, today's crap kids will love it today but they will look back at it years later and realize how shitty it was...us adults today who were 10 back then and go back and watch this we still love it....
@Lovemyselfidoes81 I don't think you can say that for sure though. I certainly do because this is what I grew up with but a lot of the young people I work with see this old stuff as really corny and over the top. I think it's a little like the Star Wars prequels that were clearly aimed at a kid's market but were devoured and then spit out by an adult audience missing the nostalgia of their youth and feeling robbed
@Lovemyselfidoes81 I agree, but it's all a matter of context. WWE's current PG "problem" is often exaggerated I think because people are the wrong demographic
The cobra stun was awesome for the feud.
Only 2 guys with guts like Jake Roberts and Randy Savage could sell this...
