Absolutely right, engineering education will have little or nothing to do with what your job involves. There is almost no overlap. You better be good with or without your education. Universities are completely missing the boat on what really is needed in most curriculums.

At ~27:50 WA Wulf comments on engineering competition with India and China. Engineering and science educators should NOT be scared they should be terrified. Channel nptelhrd right here on YT is an entirely free and complete science and engineering curriculum, fully open to the public. Can you say ABSOLUTELY FREE AUDIT. When international and US students get ready to choose between US schools and India in order to get a degree, which one will they pick?
