I was just wondering...if you look at the top end of that cheap firesteel can you see if there is a small striker rod drilled into it? I´ve come across that on some steels looking exacly like the one you´re using and they just make shavings on one side that doesn´t want to ignite,whereas on the oppsite side(where the striker sticks out) they will spark like crazy

@jimmlunn these did not have magnesium rods attached. I do have some that do though. Also handy to have.

finally someone who knows how to use one of these properly ive been watching a few videos on firesteels (i have a few years of experience on usin them) and they are using the blade on thier knife and im like are you fucking dumb but you on the other hand know what your doing simply because your using the back of your knife

I just randomly ran into this vid. B bought a few last week.

The handle actually came off of one of them that I bought & they offered to replace it for free & refund me the three bucks. I told em to keep the cash & just send me a new one.
