@childrummer79 thanks for the information, however, I listen it a bit out of tune, and why would Paul put a sticker of the detroit red wings in such a classical historical guitar?
Just another bit of trivia, the guitar Paul is handed at the 3:30 mark is THE Epiphone Texan Paul used to write and play Yesterday, Blackbird & many other songs. At the time of this taping that guitar was about 42 years old and had traveled around the world quite a few times.
@MtzUglyDuck It means something or someone is different from the usual. It has more meanings than the one everyone fixes on, same with "gay." Both words seem to have a single meaning, now, but it's only because the most recent uses are so intentionally inflammatory.
Paul McCartney has been my fiance's musical inspiration since he was a kid. His father got him into The Beatles when they were reunited (my fiance and his father, I mean). The man is a legend. All that horseshit about Paul knocking Heather Mills about...who knows for sure. But one thing's for certain..you never heard Linda McCartney uttering a single word about him out of place. I don't believe Mills for a moment. I'm surprised Paul didn't see her coming a mile away! GO, MACCA!!
The Strawberry Fields demonstration shows the shortcomings of the Mellotron as the notes end before Paul stops singing. This is because the tape note playback limit is approx. 8 seconds.
"Jenny Wren" reminds me of "Blackbird" because of the tune and the style, but the lyrical message is similar, to me, to "Rocky Raccoon" because of the sort of sad melody, and how poverty, a broken heart, and wounded warriors "took her song away" just like Rocky Raccoon got his love taken away from him.
he actually knew this piece. cuz that's where i assumed "yesterday" must've been inspired by. he said he dreamed it. to know he had this piece in his head as a teen. it's a possibilty :-)
@Staytec Yeah, my dad pointed that out when we were watching the the concert Good Evening New York. when he plays here today I think. He also plays it in the music video for Tug of War.
@ScottSextonTV i never thought of it that way- but that's pretty much true- both are based on Paul's mistake playing the classical music song- and both mention a bird
I just recently saw this program on PBS. it has been around for a while, but I only just got around to paying any attention to it. I think this is fascinating and really entertaining program. Love that Jenny Wren song. Beautifully complex and rich guitar arrangement and song melody too. Probably too classical sounding for some peoples tastes but worth it if you can give it serious listening to.
classical?? of course....he tried to recreate a bit of blackbird...which was based on a piece by bach that he and george used to do. I think Bach is classical.
My point was that some people may not relate to it all that well because it is so classical sounding. It uses counterpoint like Bach does. I was intrigued by the song Jenny Wren and taught myself to play it after watching this program. I was brought up surrounded by classical music. My Dad has loads of classical music. Hearing Bach first thing on a Saturday morning when I was a kid was the norm.

I hate when people say Lennon was greater, cause thats nonsense. Im a huge Lennon fan. Paul is just as tanented if not more and beleive it or not John looked up to Paul and his skills way after the beatles broke up. Why cant everybody just see that they both had wonderful talents and we're all lucky enough to listen to these to supertalents in the same group. That stuff only happens evey 200 years.
Wow. THANK YOU. Finally, someone who GETS it. I'm all for John Lennon--I love him--but I think sometimes people elevate him wrongfully to a God-like status, and usually at McCartney's expense.
@Zebonka As much as I hate that dumbass motherfucking cock-sucking...and I don't mean she sucks cock, she sucks the life out of men THROUGH their cocks, making fun of her for having one leg isn't right.
You might not think he'll be remembered like Mozart and Beethoven, but you have to admit, the way things are going nowadays in the music industry, in 100 years music is going to be unbearably awful, and the people who will still be able to appreciate real music will see The Beatles as gods.
i'll only admit that you don't know how to find good music or you're too lazy to look beyond what's pushed in front of you by MTV VH1 and the like of other mainstream media outlets...
The Beatles were a revolution of their time and created the basis for all pop music and onto experimental pop. yes they were genius, but pop music and classical music are not comparable in any dimension.
Who are you to say that I don't know how to find good music, or to say that I even watch MTV or VH1 (which I don't)? I barely listen to anybody that's come out in the past 20 years, but I'm not denying that there are good artists out there now, it's just that the majority of them aren't that great. No one is qualified to say one genre of music is better than another without being biased, and to say so otherwise is just being ignorant. But then again you're nothing but an atheist, so forget it.
What's so sad about me calling you what you are? As for my character, I'm cordial to those that deserve it. It's hard to accept someone who downplays other people's beliefs just because those aren't their own. You're not really hurting the stereotype that all atheists are narrow minded. And (I'll admit it) I'm nothing but a dorky teenager, not old enough to even enlist, who has nothing better to do on a Saturday. But atleast I'm not a 25 year old posting comments online to argue with a kid.
You're one to talk about negative connotations when your channel states "I'd be religious too if I desired to be willingly stupid." And I never once said, or thought, that I was better than you so don't feel all threatened and get defensive. I didn't give you advice that you needed to accept people, I simply stated that it's hard to accept people when they downplay the ways other people think and feel.
what's my channel got to do with the discussion at hand? you just got mad because you went to my channel and don't like my opinion on beliefs that you apparently hold. so instead of keeping with the music discussion you change the subject to something completely irrelevant and you're still doing it. you don't think, you feel; you're religious.
all you have done in your hissy fit to defend your position is change the subject. this was about music and you have gone way off course. not too mention you can't distinguish what i was even saying in the first place.
"No one is qualified to say one genre of music is better than another without being bias"
i never said anything about one genre being better than the other. classical and pop music are not comparable. it's not a matter of genre its a matter on content and structure.
You said comparing classical music with pop music was like comparing a ten course meal with a snickers bar. That's not comparing based on content and structure, that's comparing them with your own personal preference.
any candy or snickers bar is like pop music. it's nice it's quick its a sugar high, but no real nutrition or content. it just tastes sweet and it's always the same.
classical music is complex and multifaceted, can display a wide range of emotion all within the same piece of music. classical music is like a ten course meal, satisfying and diverse from simple appetizers to the main courses to the fine wines and desserts.
All you did was prove my point. You said that pop music only satisfies a "sugar high" while classical music is "complex and multifaceted." Which basically means you like classical music more so you think it's better. That's called being bias.
wrong, it's the truth. pop is a song that is around a basic 3 - 5 minute mark and has a consistent feeling. a classical piece of music is much longer and moves through tempo and various emotions.
you don't seem to grasp i'm not stating opinions about each, i'm stating facts.
pop and classical music are not in the same realm of music. i like both and what i'm saying has no significance in my preference. i, in fact like pop music very much. but this is irrelevant to my point.
What about rock operas like Tommy, Jesus Chris Superstar, Ziggy Stardust, The Wall? They all contain songs that tell stories, move through different tempos, and touch base on many emotions.
Jenny wren is amazing. However, I must say, in this, I miss the Duduk. That solo was so awesome. Does anybody know if he played the duduk, or if it was a studio musician?
Does anyone else just get this feeling of awesomeness learning how songs like blackbird and strawberry fields came to life, theres just something so special about seeing how real it is, makes you feel closer to the reality of the music

Strawberry Fields was the greatest Beatles song, as it was THE defining song of psychedelic rock. Guess who wrote it, NOT PAUL! John Lennon you will live forever and nobody, not even the great Macca can match your songwriting talent.
So just because in the demo, its not at its peak development means that Macca helped out? ALL the Beatles have said that John wrote that song and it was ALL his creation. He TOLD George Martin what to do with the studio techniques and Martin did it. I'm not saying Macca isn't a great man and great songwriter,I'm just upset that some people forget John's great work because he's dead and Macca is regarded as greater simply because he's alive. Both are great.
that guitar with the red detroit logo is THE guitar, is the one he uses to play yesterday in the ed sulivan show back in the 60´s...

Jenny wren is amazing. However, I must say, in this, I miss the Duduk. That solo was so awesome. Does anybody know if he played the duduk, or if it was a studio musician?
zagreen 3 years ago
The guy who played the duduk was a guy named Pedro Eustache.
fattony2011 3 years ago
Hmmm? He's saying he's returned to that style for the first time in 30 years, and you're replying by saying he "can't escape" from it?

Does anyone else just get this feeling of awesomeness learning how songs like blackbird and strawberry fields came to life, theres just something so special about seeing how real it is, makes you feel closer to the reality of the music

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Strawberry Fields was the greatest Beatles song, as it was THE defining song of psychedelic rock. Guess who wrote it, NOT PAUL! John Lennon you will live forever and nobody, not even the great Macca can match your songwriting talent.

Thanks for this new information nobody knew of before you told us.

Your welcome, mug.
Samprasisthebest 3 years ago
lol. you idiot. listen to johns demo. he might have written it but he couldn't realize his ideas without mccartney and george martin.
BroncoPfefferminz 3 years ago
So just because in the demo, its not at its peak development means that Macca helped out? ALL the Beatles have said that John wrote that song and it was ALL his creation. He TOLD George Martin what to do with the studio techniques and Martin did it. I'm not saying Macca isn't a great man and great songwriter,I'm just upset that some people forget John's great work because he's dead and Macca is regarded as greater simply because he's alive. Both are great.
