School is like hell in China, even worth than American Jail, i remember we have to carry 9-15 books to school everyday(elementray school). American teens really made me dissapointed, they don't even know how much freedom they had already , and still asking for more, and doing stupid stuff...
Those books only weigh 100 grams (about 3 Oz.) and only 100 pages. (10cm x 20cm (4'' X 8''), soft cover) When I first come to America, I was surprised at how heavy books are here. MySocial Studies book has 300 pages and weight 5 pounds! Though I do appreciate the hardcover and waxed pages, but it's not worth it. Trust me American backpacks are way heavier.
Also since you buy the book instead of renting them, you can doodle in it and pretend you can taking notes in the text book.
btw, you can leave you books in class under the desk. However, other people will steal them. (Then used to go for 70 fen on the used book market, but I should it's more expensive now) Since you own those books, you would want to keep them; since once you loose it; you'll have to buy another one. (they used to cost 1.5 yuan, which used to be the cost of a decent lunch or a box of gum.)
Please! When you post a comment, please be nice. I'll remove any comment which is political, racial or anything without concerns about this video clip. from stevecao, 6-12-2008
As a chinese who arrived in America in age of 13 I find this video extremely meaningful and intriguing.Since I have personally experienced the difference and similarity education system between these two nations myself; I totally agree with one of the principle's remark that there much more for us to learn from each other and help each other to improve.

Oh wow, ouch. Couldn't you just keep them at school and take home the ones you needed?
