  • @thejohnalexander do low intense cardio, eat 4-5 meals a day , lift more and rest more

  • Steve, you are DEAD ON. Great info. Keep spreading the gospel brother!

  • Steve, I play raquetball for 2-2.5 hours on Mon,Wed,Fri and usually weight train on Tues,Thurs,Sat and usually try to run on Sunday morning. I gave up training for more than 4 days a week cause Im what some people call a hardgainer and Im not seeing the results I want from the wieght training. Does this schedule seem reasonable to you?

  • Steve I hear lots of cardio will burn muscle?

  • also i workout 2days then rest one day is that good

  • hey im 15 year olds 5''10 im lifting 80 pounds using a barbell doing barbell curl flat bench press and other exercise do i need more weight to gain more muscles

  • @bolo8705

The weight needed to do rep work with varies from person to person, I would say if you can do more than 16 reps with good slow form then you need more weight, if you cannot do 8 reps with good form then you're using too much weight.

  • hey steve im diabetic and want to know if i eat corn will it not process or show in my waste..im afraid of working out thus showing sweat and i want to look attractive 24/7.

im 6,1.5,18,185 muscle..i have good genes i dont work out but have diabetes because it hereditary..what should i do to keep inshape..im not motivated because why work out if im in shape and have diabetes..whats the point

  • @FLATFEET3 You can absolutely workout. It might even help your diabetes ( depending on type) by increasing muscle mass and by making your muscle more receptive to insulin. It will also help with fat loss.

  • this episode helped me to understand wtf is going on withe me, and that you are being honest. there is times when i cant jog AS MUCH AS I DID THE DAY BEFORE, just buy remembering where i started the day before and how i feel when i started the next day, and where i start gasping for breath the next day.......etc. and it is all based on how much i RESTED, OR DRANK the night before, or caloric intake i had the same day even.....

  • do i need to rest for exactly maximum of 72 hours?? what if i rest for 1 week for a certain muscle??? e.g i do chest on monday and again on the next monday.. pls i need an answer for ths.. tnx

  • @gleof06 It's a great way. But you can train so diffrently just that your body need to be used to it :)

  • hey steve how do i find out my resting metabolic rate, im 5 ft 9 weighing about 182 pounds and i do heavy weight training 5-6 times a week as long as 1 hour walking twice a week thanks for the help much apreciated

  • What about the overal stress u put on your body(nervous system) by weight training?

Don't you need a lil'bit more time off to recover from intense workouts (especially bigger muscles like legs)?

  • I agree with this cause i work out pretty aggressively. I used to do full body every other day mon-fri with ok. results. when i start to slack of and go once or twice a week, my strength and muscle growth shot up very significantly.

  • ive been working out all summer mon-fri and i rest weekends.....at the end of the week my legs are sore since i do just cardio....last week my right leg was more sore than usual and it goes numb occasionally...is that normal?

  • i workout almost everyday i don't feel tried i get plenty of sleep should still give my muscle 48 hours to recover

  • @Lawrence1443 Depnds on how hard you're training each muscle and if you're training the same muscles each day.

  • ok i weigh about 289 iv lost 41 lbs but i was wondering what if i walked like 35 miles a day? would that matter? is there a limit to how much walking and burning i can possibly do in a day while burning as much fat as possible and still being able to do it again

  • @leavittobeaver If you walked 35 miles you would lose a pound. The only limit would be time and how much you would stand to walk. That is why dieting and exercising are the best combination.

  • @carletoneyes

    2 things.

Don't spend a day of working out on abs, with abs you can work them almost every day unless really sore.

Also, if youve been working out for 6 months u shud have seen some results, if you have ur doing the right thing, if uve seen minor results, change ur workout or intensity

  • I've been exercising less and utilizing the time that I DO exercise to better effect and I've been doing better and feeling stronger. Today I rode to work in 22 minutes going 21.1 mph. It's 8 miles. Proves to me that recovery is as important as the actual workout!

  • Thanks for seting out the rate if weight loss expectation, so important in order to keep motivated, I'm losing 1.5 - 2 lbs a week, and feeling like a winner everytime I get on those scales! Thanks mate!

  • Hey Steve. What should I do to maintain my muscles where they're at so that I keep my muscles exactly where they are? (I won't start maintaining yet, just wanna know ahead of time). Thanks!

  • Steve,

    become a Beachbody coach!!

  • There is an answer for fast recovery....

    .....It's called "GLUTAMINE" !!!

.....An amino acid that you wont find in most Protein Shakes..!!

    ....But it is sold separately....

  • @knowpain00 no, the answer to fast recovery is rest and food

  • What if i work out my abs chest arms and legs ever day and feel tired but the next day i feel normal is it ok to do this every day?

  • i dont think you should work out the same muscle group everyday cause you wanna give em time to recover.

  • hi steve i damaged my lower back disck on hack squad,,, but its recovring,, but i wana go hard out in gym but im bit scared is there any tips 4 me thanx,, and all ur videos make sense

  • thank you steve! I'm sick of these douchebags online spreading all kinds of bs. Keep telling the truth!

  • ME TOO! You're welcome!

  • Recovery by eating whole wheat and whole mean foods, since the chemical extracted and put in recovery products is found in the stuff that they throw away when they refine that grain.

  • Hey just stumbled upon your channel.

    It's very helpful

  • How do you gain muscle with High Metabolism?

  • The most important thing about recovery is... try not to judge it by a medium. If some website says most people need a day or two a week of recovery, don't listen to that over how you actually feel.

If you feel you can workout, do it.

  • Sure. You can even break it up. Morning, afternoon and evening.

  • thanks Steve.

I'm a naturally thin person but then I lived a sedentary lifestyle for 2 years and ate like crap so i gained 15 pounds.

I'm now exercising before eating breakfast every morning, meaning weights and 35 minutes of cardio every day.

I want to increase my cardio to get a flat stomach in a month but i hear conflictiong reports that too much is bad.

Can I do cardio for an hour or 2 walking every night?

  • Hi, no offence, but it's unlikely that U can lose that gut in a month, it takes at least couple of months to a year.

I t depends on yr excerise regime, diet(food intake) & how much U wanna lose in that gut

  • It doesn't matter when you do cardio!

  • Steve I usually train 2 body parts when I weight life and on the days that I weight life, I usually go hiking for cardio. I usually weight lift for 30-45 mins and hike for 30-45 mins. It takes me 4 days to train every muscle when lifting. I rest 1 day after I trained everything. Should I do cardio on my rest day? I'm not sure if it will cause me to lose muscle mass. I want to add lots of muscle by the way. not lose any, but I'd like to keep my bodyfat low.

  • Just finished watching your videos (I think I got all of them). According to my education, you're right on the money on everything you say (I have a B.S. kinesiology and a B.S. nutritional sciences) :). I only disagreed on swimming being not a good aerobic workout on that 'best aerobic workout' video. This was a very good review of stuff I learned through theory...application is another story!

  • Depends on intensity but I would not train the same muscle two days in a row if you're going to failure. Simply train your other body parts. Training each body part intensely twice a week is enough.

  • Hi Steve. I've been told to rest my muscles for 48 hours after an intense workout. However, I'm a young guy and my muscles "feels" fully recovered after only 1 day (I lift until failure, about 9 sets per muscle). Could I train based on how my muscles feel instead of following the 48 hour rule? Thanks!

  • Two body parts is fine as long as you can train both hard. I train chest and tris together and sometimes back and bis.

  • thanx sir 4 your advice... now training hardcore can i allow to workout every other day since the intense training?

  • what do you think of training two body part in one day?

since i workout every other day to allow recover.. i feel it works ince i've competed in the past .. im 5'8 weighting 216 but i am looking to get bigger.. help plz

  • I agree my dad tells me the same thing.

  • 48-72 hours without training that muscle.

  • I hear alot of people say to work just one or two muscle groups a week like chest on monday, abs on tuesday, etc. because it takes 48 hrs for the muscle to recover. But, what about working out your entire body every other day?

  • i train fullbody 3 days a week. ive seen the best results from this: squat, bench, row, overhead press, and deadlift. 5X5 heavy weight.

  • Hey Steve, wat do u mean by 48 - 72 hrs rest?? do u mean 48 - 72hrs sleep or what?

  • it means not training that muscle not sleep, say you train quads dont train them for 2days after...

  • Thanks!

  • your a smart dude i tell ya

  • I don't know what you are talking about , Yoga is VERY intense. Have you ever tried Bikram Yoga?

  • There are different styles of Yoga. Some aren't that intense, others focus much on strength and balance.

  • great job mate finally some one that knows what the are talking about keep up the good work!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • Steve I think your advise is great and it nice to see someone on the internet who actually knows what they are talking about.

  • Haha, yeah seeing as to you don't use any punctuations, I think you may have a bit of a problem with resting. But that's just me...

  • 48 hours of rest seems like a long time to rest after weight training even though a lot of people say it's the correct thing to do I think it's way to long but that's just me....

  • two days isn,t a long time at all i rest for six days. I do my weightlifting every monday, in the begining of my weightlifting I was resting for two days then as the weight gets heavier and heavier i increased my rest days, if you don,t give your body enough rest to fully recover it can,t build more muscle cells. Also something to think about if you weightlift too frequently and don,t give your body enough rest your muscles gradually get smaller and weaker.

  • Exercise must develop 3 areas of the body: Gross, Casual and subtle body. Most people focus only on gross body and completely neglect Casual and Subtle levels. These levels require certain types of breathing, meditation and yoga, tai chi (or other holistic exercise)

  • It's good to run 3 -4 times a week

  • steve you are the men

  • @cdmjeeah How many men exactly? :O

  • don't train a sore muscle!!

  • I have joined Bally fitness.

The first day I run treadmill, steppers, resistance machines, pool, hot room, steam room, e t c

Next day I was getting an advise from a friend of mime, and was told to run one day, pool - the other day, steam room - the other day and so on, unless you want to get a hard attack.

    Does he make sense?

    Help!!!

  • 48 hours of recovery after intense weight training for a muscle seems like too little for a natural athlete.

  • ditto

  • Great explanation to me. And as 'shandling' says "listen to your body" and I love my body!

  • listen to your body

  • WOOOO HOOOO, the first rater again, 5 out of 5 stars. Speaking of that I did an intense leg work out last tuesday , its tuesday again and my legs are still sore, is it ok to work them again like 4 days after even if they are sore???

  • Thanks for the videos! I've started working out with a trainer once a week, and your videos keep me a little more moviated during the times inbetween. :)

  • Great advice steve. This is very true.
