We gave away the canal because we knew that the new class of warships would not fit, and that the next generation of tankers and container ships could not either. That´s why the central American countries are talking about a new, wider canal.
@ddd1953 We gave away the canal? it wasn't ours to begin with. We leased it and when the lease ran out it was decided to turn it over to Panama to be operated for the benefit of the world. Panama , BTW was "created" by an American backed, staged "revolution" so that America wouldn't have to deal with Nicaragua. America was going to widen the canal to 120 feet in 1938 but WW2 put the project on hold and it was never done.
@shadowplage Yamato didn't "held it's ground" for 3 hours. It was 1 hour and 31 minutes from 1st dive bomber attack till the order "abandon ship" was sounded.
dont let it get to you lad, it's just idiots having fun, here, i'll nullify the thumbs down with a thumbs up for ya, the answer to your question is that the US used almost all it's resources on fast battleships and carriers at that time, the yamato class was so heavy that if the US built one of the same magnitude it wouldnt be able to keep up with the speed of the US carriers
We do and we have for over 50 years, they are called Aircraft Carriers. I should note that the Aircraft Carriers the US currently builds( variants of the Nimitz class) are about 50% bigger than Yamato.
Yes, but the Yamato remains the biggest "Battleship" to date,(Though there have been bigger warships built.) It is irrelevant to compare completly different classes of ships in terms of size, as they all have their specific purpose. It would be unreasonable to compare say, a submarine to a Supercarrier, as they both have different roles to fill.
Except for the part where it wasn't, the Yamato had a waterline length of 840' and an overall length of 863' while a Nimitz class aircraft carriers and their variants have a waterline length of 1040' and an overall length of between 1088' and 1092'. As for width/beam, Yamato 127' and Nimitz 134'(hull), 251'(flightdeck).
The Yamato did have a complement of rail launched float planes; these were intended to scout and spot for the Yamato's guns. And the Yamado had a stern mounte crane to recover these float planes.
GO AMERICA GO all the way to tokyo show them super japs what us unhumans can do to them the japs thought fighting americans was like murdering defenceless chinese NOW they know better outfoxed outfought n beaten by the us man to man the americans where better FAR better! pitty america has now changed so much the onced most loved country on earth now the most hated they where fighting for freedom now for oil n control thought of japan having america's power enough to make anyone kill himself
i tell u what am talking about! people suffering the worse attrocities ever under the sun from imperial japan in the name of the emperor who believed he had a devine right to rule the world as the whole world was concidered sub-humans by the japs whatever u may say about america whatever they did or do they are angels next to the japs!
so? did the americans committe the kind of attrocities the japs did? did the British do? did nazi germany do? NOOOO one ever did what they did all i say is thank GOD the japs never had america's power if they did HELL WOULD A BEEN ON THIS EARTH! many countries had empires anyone did what the japs did?
Im only talking about America. The Americans commited many attrocities, exterminating Native Indians, to commiting Genocide in the Philippines, Slavery and they were part of the Opium Trade.
Japan had the power to beat America so we should be thanking the Chinese and Russians for keeping the bulk of their military in China and Manchuria. Like Germany it was overwhelmed.
come on now man be real yes i agree every country commited attrocities Britain n Russia took the bulk of the german military might BUT u have to be fair in your assesment it is the americans that helped win the war remember that after they entered the war the Russians were able to pull their Siberian troops (their Best) to face the germans n that information was given to them from one of the gang of 5 that worked in the British embassy in Tokyo without their Siberian troops to face the germans
Wrong. Slavinskys unsealed Soviet records confirm the US was trying to convince Stalin Jpn was going to invade despite Apr41 JpnSvt Neutrality Pact & to use Siberian armies against Jpn not Nazis as well as US use Siberian bases. It was Jpn's PM so angry at Hitler's betrayals he called for severing relations confirmed by Stalin's Tokyo spy Sorge that convinced Stalin to send the Siberian armies west. Japan honored its neutrality thus directly helped save the USSR & turn tide of war against Nazis.
maybe they would have lost the battle of stalingrad n then it would a been all over how about the North sea convoys? supplying Russia with us n british war goods to keep Russia alive? the R navy lost many ships from u boats but their bravery is legentary along with the R airforce God bless them n the red army also do not forget the americans saved china from further japanese attrocoties as for american so called genoside in the philipines that is a joke! yes they killed about 20,000 genocide? NO
Considering the population was not large it is a genocide. The fact that child or women were not spared either.
My point is that without Russia or China things may have been played out better for the Japanese. The Commonwealth and Dutch also deserve more in the Pacific theatre for holding Indo China and the regions Islands protecting the Indian oil fields that the Japanese were criticaly in need of.
The North Convoy did help but not keep the USSR afloat since they had very good production
I taught Reservation kids, almost none full-blooded, all forced into our language/religion. Our schoolbooks admit genocide & that we deliberately gave them diseased blankets murdering far more than the Jap biochem tests. Even "Total War" authors who helped our War Crimes Trials state the majority of Nanking casualties were by Chinese generals/warlords, the Japs responsible for 25-40,000 murders. We murdered more Koreans/Indochinese than Japs & we were mute on 180,000 rapes when Berlin fell. YES.
You never heard of Manifest Destiny or American Monroe Doctrine? of Black Hills, Amritsar, My Lai, Biscani, Salina and Rheinwiesenlager(more casualties than Bataan Death March) Massacres perpetrated by the US? If anyone brought HELL, it was our Geneva-violating fire & atomic bombing of civilians, the radiation & naphalm damage punishing untold innocent unborn generations to come. Stalin, Chiang & Mao murdered/tortured more of their own people than their invaders. Auschwitz/Naphalm/Atom-bomb=hell
battlestations pacific FTW!

Why can't america build a bigger ship than the yamato?
hlssmat 2 years ago
America builds ships that will be able to go thru the Panama Canal.

Yeah
And why did my comment get a thumbs down?
I guess people don't like America being ahead of everyone else in the world. =[

battyleships dont land planes.they are gun ships.
aircraft carriers land and launch airplanes.

Almost all battleships, and most heavy and some light cruisers carried floatplanes for recon, anti-submarine work, and spotting fall of shot.
The would be landed alongside or behind the ship and picked up by crane.

agreed, we've been arguing this on the other sites too where we just want to talk naval-stuff
there's an AnnieOakly we wish we could ban or mute or something on other naval sites always bringing up racial and unrelated issues
is there any way to mute someone's account here?
so we just never see anything they post anymore?
as you can tell, Im a Mighty Mo man, but we love the design & lines of the Yamato
beautiful yet practical design, nice sloped armor and joint lines, sweet
