O how nice to listen not only this but many other Brook Benton's records as they were favourites of my late husband's-its remind me something of him and our happy 40 years together-many thanks
Fabulous tune- fabulous vocalist- one of the 100 greatest songs in history. Just one rhetorical question- why is this song not in stereo when "A Million Miles From Nowhere" a year earlier was in Stereo on the VIK label. Just seems strange.
On this date in 1959 {Jan. 26th} "It's Just A Matter Of Time" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart, eventually it peaked at No. 3 and spent a total of 18 weeks in the Top 100!!!
Hey there lonely girl, go on till you reach the end of the line, but remember In your search for fortune and fame what goes up must come down, but I know one day you'll wake up and find that my love was a true love, it's just a matter of time.
Even if this is not your favorite song, at least Brook Benton should be one of your favorite singers, and does not deserve a "dislike" from anyone.....
I remember listening to this song on the Hi-Fi when my Grandfather got drunk and started to testify about how this was his "Piece!" Thanks for the Memories...
@sid203 Six idiots as of this note...to steal a phrase from the late Johnny Carson..."may an unclean Yak sit on their Twinkie"...check out another Brook song "The Ties That Bind"...awesome by him...also wonderful by country singer Don Williams. Can we all be honest here for a minute?...any one of Brook Benton, Dinah Washington, Karen Carpenter...could sing from the "Yellow Pages" and we should melt. I am so envious of my late Dad who got to hear/see Brook perform at a bar in Alaska in the '60's
Obrigada!
I sat back, closed my eyes, and a tidal wave of memories hit me. Junior high school dance at a church in San Antonio, TX. So long ago. Thanks for the post.
One of the best songs to slow dance to when you are a teenager in the 60s. Real artist and real romance.......kids do not have that today.......its sad.
I didn't truly appreciate this when I first heard it as I was about 11 but I knew he had a great voice and as I got older I realized how good he was thanks for putting at my fingertips
Yeah, my Dad used to play Brook Benton (on the 'stereogram) on a Sunday afternoon. The soundtrack to my childhood. I rediscovered this music a couple of years ago...who knew my Dad had such cool taste?
@Rambler195 This man was a real crooner. This man had a voice that was out of sight. We dont have singers like Brooke any more. There will never be a voice like Brooke. Remember A rainy night in Georgia.
1 of the very best voices, and much under rated voice, to ever grace a record.....LOVE him!!! Can listen to him all day....he and The Platters, oh yea!!!
The best version of this song, there is no one who can touch Brook Benton. He was the best with a voice as smooth as velvet. We will always miss you Brook. RIP.
I know it all depends on personal opinion, but when I hear Randy Travis singing this it only makes me wish it were Brook Benton! This is one of the greatest songs of the '50's.
I just went back and forth between Brook Benton's version of this song and Randy Travis' version here on YouTube. I know that Brook Benton co-wrote this song and introduced it as a big hit in 1959, and I always tend to like the orriginal better, but in this case, both Brook Benton's and Randy Travis's version are FANTASTIC!
@0621mike I know...FM oldies stations hardly ever touch this song or other 'lost classics' anymore. One probably must subscribe to Sirius or another satellite music service to hear this song and other 'lost classics' on the airwaves nowadays. Many YouTubers deserve a lot of credit for uploading this gem and other 'lost oldies/classics' for this and future generations to listen to....
@mowm88 Do you mean that Brook Benton has never been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or whichever one Jackie Wilson was inducted into? Both of these talented singers were underrated.
O how nice to listen not only this but many other Brook Benton's records as they were favourites of my late husband's-its remind me something of him and our happy 40 years together-many thanks

You are dead right about Brooks voice.
Can you imagine anyone here in 2011 who could even begin to
come close to a singer like this .
I certainly cannot as we now live in an age where mediocrity and celebrity
is worshipped over genuine singing/musical talent .
Brooks version of Rainy Night In Georgia is the business!

Brook Benton must surely be one of the most underrated artists of his time.
I grew up listening to Brook on an LP that was among my Mothers record
collection and have never forgotten his silky delivery of a fine lyric.
It is long overdue that this fine singer was given the recognition that he
truly deserves.
