Hi, Undisputed Truth had a piece of a saying to start off one of their songs & I can't remember which song it is, but here is the saying, "BY CRIPES LOOK, THERE ARE 4 EARTH BEINGS DOWN THERE ON THAT EARTH LANDING STRIP, LET'S BEAM THEM ABOARD, BY CRIPES LOOK AT THEIR FACES, I'VE NEVER SEEN EARTH BEINGS LOOK LIKE THIS BEFORE" I'm not to sure but I think it might of been an extended version to METHOD TO THE MADNESS, does any one have this version.
@MrRolDogg The Undisputed Truth was the "Test-Group" for Norman Whitfield. If the song was successful he gave it to Rare Earth or the Temptations. So, in fact, THIS is the original. ;-)
The Undisputed Truth is the psychedelic alternative to the Temptations or Rare Earth. Latters where to do the commercial success, the Undisputed Truth to do what he liked most!!!!
This performance is spooky but I guess I'm bypassing the strangeness, because I love the music and atmosphere of the 70's so much. Those days were so soulful & colorful that one who wasn't there can actually imagine being there in spirit as well as feelings. Now that's AWESOME!!!!!
The genius of Norman Whitfield, unique in soul music, and never to be heard again.R.I.P.,I wonder where is Barret Strong these days, does anyone know,or Melvin, wah wah Ragin?
@youngghostmack10 ....Chaka Khan actually went to Calumet High School on the south May street on the south side of Chicago....thought u might want to know that.
@deelowda1965 dude she went to kenwood academy as well my brother or sister what ever u may be and her music teacher who recently retired at the age of 80 a white lady who was also my music teacher has the pictures and did u know that chaka got kicked out of kenwood her junior year and then she went over to hating ass calumet highschool she was kicked out because she was a fighter!! i bet u didnt know that my friend?!
This is Rose Royces's Lequient Jobe's distinct rubbery bass sound! These songs are great because great musicians played great music. It simple, isn't it.
I wonder WHO was the behind the scenes influence for The Undisputed Truth's apparel clothes! Was it of their own choice? The "Gothic" fad has imposingly taken its toll in general public these past years. It's more darker than ever among the newer artists in particular. Hollywood & media has bombarded us in Gothic-like agenda. Horror movies, body piercings, tattoos, vampire-ism, witchcraft etc. Everything has its roots. This is my only reason for inquiring. Take care. : )
Yes the band playing music is Rose Royce along with other musicians like Mytke Julius, Mark Davis and others, while the vocals are by the undisputed truth
The bassist is Lequeint "Duke" Jobe from Rose Royce. As a matter of fact, Rose Royce almost played all instruments on "Higher Than High" and "Method To The Madness" albums by The Undisputed Truth.
The Truth shared the Gordy label with the Tempts (and Mr. Whitfield writing and producing, natch). The Tempts covered just about every song the Truth performed (check out the albums between 1972 - 1976 and you'll see what I mean).
As an FYI, it was the Truth that originally released "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," which ironically became a number one hit for the Tempts.
Undisputed Truth also covered the Temptations' "Heaven and Hell..", "Smiling Faces Sometimes", "Ball of Confusion" amongst others.
The point is Norman Whitfield wrong many songs in the late-60s and early 70s and had his stable of artists record versions which is why Rare Earth, Undisputed Truth and the Temptations all recorded the same songs.
There were many songs Undisputed Truth recorded that Temptations did not record. The Truth was more of a Rock group. Take a listen to Method To The Madness, and Cosmic Truth.
What an amazing group! Although I've been familiar with their songs for a number of years I've never seen them before - they're far out, fabulous funky style! Thanks so much for posting!
yesterday mr Wright of the Floyd, cannot help to make a joke:
at all the weddings my aunts & uncles asked me: so, you're the next? I hated it. It stopped when I began to ask them the same thing on funerals...
No offense, I'm sure Norman can appreciate it, RIP, you made fantastic sounds and you'll be remembered as a GENIUS with capital G,E,N,I,U and S! respect!
first time I saw The Undisputed Truth was back in 1998 on MTV broadcasting an old Soul Train-Show. I´m totally out of bounds. Never heard such brilliant funk music before: psychedelic, discoid and very, very funky. so I start digging deeper in this sound and today I´m a proud owner of all album of T.U.T. Thank you so much for your music, Mr. Norman Whitfield.
Very sorry. I am not from the States. In my country in that time soul music was not playing on TV or radio-station too much. The term "black" was strictly benign. I'm talking about early '70s.I didn't want to offend anyone.
One of the best soul bands of all time but they are not well known, its a pity. I love them i hope motown relieses some of there album. Gavin. Denmark.
O. K., thank you. But I remembered, when I had this 45 Record. The name of the song was "Smiling Faces Sometimes" by the Undisputed Truth. I remember, it was on Gordy Records.
It was all Purple, with the small Yellow Triangle across the Label with the Gordy logo on it.
