Most opera singers are big and or tall and have big chests and or wide backs and have huge or big jaws . Now I know there are some that are not built like this at all but most of them are big .

What version is this recording and where can I find it Are there any videos of her performances? I listened to the other Roma version and I could just shoot the conductor and flautist for dragging it along! Anita and Trudeliese are so beautiful in this video!

I say to madame Cerquetti,that she has nothing to regret.Anyone who heard her and now listens to any of her recordings knows in their bones they are listening to greatness.
Reminds me of the film of Sara Scudari in her old age listening to her recording of Vissi d'arte and reliving her glory years. And what a strong wonderful Italian face Anita had.

It's so sad that this wonderful voice was stilled(for the stage) so young,due to her retirement from ill health,even sadder that she decided,when well again, not to return to the opera stage.

Un mistero per me la Cerquetti e il successo che riscuote. La maggior parte delle volte io sento una voce piena d'aria, spoggiata, vuota in basso e aspra sugli estremi acuti. Mi meraviglia che fosse, con queste caratteristiche, la voce potente che raccontano, è proprio un miracolo di natura. Mi piace solo in qualche brano in cui canta piano e morbido. L'ho conosciuta nel '97 ed era una persona molto dolce

This is a transcendent performance that I had to listen to again and again because I couldn't believe how heartbreaking it was. I hear how the faster tempo allows for all manner of vocal shading that can't be achieved at a slower tempo, and I also note that at this tempo, it sounds as if she is simply speaking the words to us, despite the extreme melismatic nature of the tune. Does anyone know: who was the conductor who supported this tempo so beautifully?

I can't get over what she does here. Casta diva is a prayer, a plea. She not only sings beautifully, ethereally, but her rendition also has a youthful humility, a sweetness, a sense of unworthiness, love and faith in the goddess. Every sound is made not to ravish the listener's ear, but to honor the goddess to whom she sings her prayer...and we get to hear it. That is brilliant.

It's long since I was waiting for a document about Cerquetti on YT. To hear such a fluid and spianata voice turns the screw in our wound because of present shortage of haunting sopranos. She definitely belongs to and reminds us of a cherished glorious past.
She was one of the greatest singers of the century. Listen to the beautifil legato and the gorgeous limitless top. This is true artistry. how sad that we no longer hear singing like this in the theatre.
Wonderful "Casta diva"! I wouldn't bet that, but actually she sang a most refined and stylish "Casta diva" in the best Bel Canto tradition. The fioritura sounds easy. The timbre itself is among the most beautiful I ever heard. It's so clear and vibrant, with a very discreet and beautiful metallic tone. Her inflections and vocal colouring are so deep and smart.
I only wished she had started later and maintained a career for decades. How many great recordings she could've left for us!

Actually she did have health problems. It was very sad. I knew her. Cerquetti was one of the greatest Norma's. I would say that she was the closest to Ponselle.Artists like Cerquetti do not exist anymore. Today all we have are the boring mundane singers that the music schools crank out. There is not a soul out here today that can sing like Cerquetti.

Tragically ignored by the major record companies. I believe she had major health problems which forced her retirement.
In her prime what a voice.

actually that's not what happened, she retired to become a housewife and to be devoted to her family

Actually she did have health problems. It was very sad. I knew her. Cerquetti was one of the greatest Norma's. I would say that she was the closest to Ponselle.Artists like Cerquetti do not exist anymore. Today all we have are the boring mundane singers that the music schools crank out. There is not a soul out here today that can sing like Cerquetti.
