I am very new to all this.  I just bought my wife this phone for christmas and don't really want to mes it up. I have been watching all the utube videos on rooting and stuff. I really just want to root so the phone can be a wifi hotspot. My wife does't want the phone to look any differnt with respect to apps and stuff. And on the cmd prompt it says flash_image cannot be found. And i followed the instructions exactly.. Please help, this phone sucks and i need something new.

thankyou supersixty1 for posting such a thorough tutorial. It was very helpful. i recieved the same results as you until the end where you get a screen that reads SDX... I never got that but i did check under settings/about phone/build number and it reads "Samsung squealjoy v2.2" so I do believe everything worked out just fine. Another difference was that I never had to type in "su" to get the "#" prompt... it gave it to me automatically... Hmmm, dunno why but I cant complain.

@AlwaysPouringRain Try using Z4root from the market. There are videos on Youtube about it, much easier to root that way. The cable it comes with can charge and transfer data.

@AlwaysPouringRain "waiting for device" is usually a sign that your PC isn't seeing your device due to the lack of drivers. To get my XP PC to even see my device in normal situation I had to plug the intercept into my PC then power up the phone. As it powered up the PC successfully recognised the device. But this didnt help for USB debugging. I had to repeat the process above with USB debugging checked for the super1click to get passed "waiting for device" If this doesnt help, describe ur prob

There was a slight hang up at "waiting for device" cuz my PC didnt see my device when in USB debug mode so I had to power it off then back up with it connected to my PC and everything went fine with the super1clik root. NOW, I am stuck at the first cmd entry of "adb push flash_image /data/local/tmp/. I press enter then it returns "daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 * "daemon started successfully * "error: device offline... I've googled and found no resolve, could you direct me.

@hackettisaiah Yes, check ON "USB debugging" then you can try powering down the intercept then plugging it into the usb and powering it on. then run super1click and see if that gets you past the "waiting for device" bit.

@supersixty1 ~ upon completion I noticed a few differences. The CMD entries returned different kilobyte sizes and speeds and I never had to change out my USB cord that came with my device. Thats right ppl, the standard USB charge cable did the job just fine.

@tambulee for this with this phone. All you would need to do is install the default recovery. The default kernal and the default rom. you can google sdx developers and look under the intercept forum thread and look for Stock Virgin mobile rom. You will find it :D
