i have had the implanon for 2 and a half years i love it and i havent had my period the who time i have had it i spotted in the begining but that didint last long i recomend it
doesnt hurt getting it put in. BUT i dont recommand it. i hate this borth control i had not stop period for 3 months. now i dont bleed for one week out of each month. mood swings are bad. deperssion. and i dont know but anyone else but i feel pregnant on this thing. {am not pregnant however} bloated. headaches i have lost weight. but i am getting mine out soon
I've had mine in my arm sense mid 09 and i think its great. I dont have erugular bleeding. I dont have my period at all.. Just once in a while ill have spotting. The only con i have about this is, is that i went to my doctor for a check up and I've told her i wanted to lose weight and it just seemed like it was impossible for me to lose it. She ran tests on me to see if it was thiroid or maybe genetic and its neither. She said it could be the birth control method im using.
i am looking into getting birth control being that im 20 and have a 3yr old and a 7month old and like that this one stays in for 3yrs what are the side effects? and how effective is it? do u need additional protection?
@mayra8890 The video deals with some of these questions but you can get more details about side effects and effectiveness on Planned Parenthood's website or on the implant page on our new website, Bedsider. Note that the implant is extremely effective in terms of protecting against pregnancy but does NOT protect against STIs.
im 20 a mother of 2 i have had my implanon for 4 days, it didnt hurt going, but it DID hurt like hell a few hours later, to the point i couldnt even lift my arm or let even the wind breeze against it, but today it hurts less, theres still certain ways i move my arm i get a sharp pain from my finger tips to my shoulder blade. Other than that no complains so fat
had mine for almost a week now.the worst part so far was waiting to get it done, i have a massive fear of needles but it was no where near as bad as i thought it was. the bruising so far has gotten better but still there. but i do feel a twinge where the implant is every now and again but i think ive had very slight mood swings and a few spots but i think thats due to my age im 16 but apart from that :) i WOULD recommend it! its worth it. and you can always have it taken out if you dislike it.
i got mine last week and am going in t get it taken out today. I have had therrible migrains for the past 5 days, the worst peroid pains i've ever had, giving birth was less sore, and i feel so depressed which is odd as im usually so happy.
HOWEVER, i'm glad I tried it. Getting it put in was a breeze and i'm not worried about getting it out either. Don't worry about others experiences, everyones different and I still recommend giving it a go, if it works then great, if not, well you tired.
I got implanon 2 months ago (I commented below). So far I feel the same. I haven't had any weight gain, acne or depression. The only down side is I've had light bleeding ever since. My doctor did warn me that irregular bleeding is the most common side effect but it should become regular by 6 months. I'll wait it out. At this point I still think 3 years of pregnancy protection is worth it.
I am getting this done on feb 10th, I get sick of people saying "i gained so much weight" same as i hear with depo too, ive been on depo for 4 years now, weight gain with BC is BS, eat less, exercise more. People say depo is poison but i've loved it, i just dont love the BMD it causes, which is why im getting implanon, so for those with weight gain, quit blaming it on BC and take a look at your lifestyle.
However, I'd like to point out the fact that it offers no protection against STD's, and so shouldn't be used without a condom unless you are with a person you know -for sure- to be clear.
(continued) but the bruises were gone within a week - it is only temporary. My arm is fine, I don't feel grossed out, I'm usually not even aware of the implant unless I feel for it myself.
- Note - Beforehand, I was definitely against getting it because the idea grossed me out. But when doctors recommended it to me, I decided I'd be brave and go ahead - it was effortless. I plan to be going to uni for 5 years and so don't want to fall pregnant, so the implant lasting 3 years is perfect.
I am very satisfied with Implanon. I got the implant around a month ago now and have been experiencing no 'difficulties' bar extremely light periods - if you can call that a difficulty!
For the procedure, my arm was first numbed, and i felt the liquid go in my arm there. When my arm was numb , I got the rod inserted and didn't feel a thing. Plasters and a bandage were placed over. The bandage was to be taken off 24h later and the plasters 3days later. I had massive bruising as expected
Moooooooooooood swings! They have been the worst these last few months of havin it inserted 3 years ago.. I am supposed to haev mine removed this month! I might have a celebration!
I had implanon injected yesterday and it was easy and painless. The lidocane felt like a bee sting and thats all the discomfort I felt during the procedure. It was neat to watch my doctor inject the rod because I couldn't feel it all. I do have a huge bruise and my arm is a little sore but that was expected. I'll update in a month or two to post any side effects!
I have one of these, and my periods are irregular and very heavy, but since i was like that before i got the implant, i'm not complaining. I have found that my pms and cramping are less severe, so it's good in that respect, and since i havn't gotten pregnant in the 18 months, it's so far working as a contraceptive.
The "numbing" shot did not work for me, I had to have 2 shots to attempt to numb my arm, the Doctor then went ahead and put the implant in anyway. I was in agony. My arm then bruised and I experienced what can only be described as a "dead arm" for a week after having it done, resulting in having to have time iff work.
I am 2 years into the implanon now- I came on it right from the depo injection, this contraceptive does work, but I am DREADING having it taken out!
DONT get the implanon, i had mine in for 8months & got it taken out cause i wanted to ttc#2 but now ive been ttc for 18months, i STRONGLY believe that implanon has done something to me, its the biggest regret of my life even getting it in, doctors WONT tell you the risks, ive heard nothing but horror stories with it, like conceiving after it etc etc ...its bad, DO NOT get it in at all seriously..
I am finding the implant to be very good for me so far. I have had about 1 or two very light and short periods in the whole 12 months I have been using it.
Not to say it doesnt have its downsides, I have gained quite a bit of weight and been quite emotional (prone to tears). But really i am willing to take the side effects if it means i dont have to remeber to take a pill every day :)
I got mine put in in January of 08. I got pretty heavy periods for about 6 months after. I havent used a tampon since, mini pads work just fine. I get it roughly every 8 weeks. Sometimes if it goes too long, I have taken a pregnancy test to make sure, all negative. I really dont like people makin negative comments when they had it in less than a week. It's not instantaneous, you have to give your body time to adjust. The Implanon itself doesnt hurt, it hasnt pained me since the first few days.
I got mine out two days ago and the healing process is NOT cool. I had it for a year and my fat and tissue attached to it and it had to be TUGGED OUT. I have an awful bruise and it hurts. I gained weight and got very moody using this. Good luck to everyone.
I got my implanon implanted today...first they clean your arm with bedodine...and apply the lidocane..it burns only for a few seconds...then when that is done...they take a needle with the implant in it and inject it in your arm, you will not feel this....its 100% painless...all you will feel is the doctor pull your your skin a little..he or she will inject the implanon...clean the area. patch it up...and your done. the patch stays on for 24 hours...so far no problems with mine...Good luck!!!
yeah they told this girl that when she had hers removed that it causes you to bleed and have really bad bleeded. as well as your hormones to be really high
i had mine put in monday (2 days ago) and it feels so wierd, it aches and throbs and its so bruised and everytime i touch it it makes me feel sick, however, its only the anastehtic that hurts a bit, it just a sting, and you cant feel the implanon going in,you can just feel the pushing.
