  • I am currently considering playing the bass flute for high school ( In eighth grade now:) I've played alto flute, oboe, and now I'm needing to make my final decision. Please comment and tell me if I should give it a shot! Thanks!

  • what kind of bass flute are you playing? I am in the market to buy one. Thanks!

  • Needs more delay.

  • Very nice sound. It looks like you're using a pickup to record the flute, can you recommend a good flute pickup? I've tried a couple of them but never been satisfied. Thank you.

  • genius.

  • how do you not like, pass out xD

  • Actually, bass flute takes less air, because the embochure hole on a regular flute is smaller, therefore you lose more air when you blow into it. The piccolo takes the most air, because of it's tiny embochure hole. You lose around 98% of your air.

  • its pretty low volume but then gets loud in a few parts. interesting and very expressive. beautiful vibrato.

  • @maxmythic Ink I bet it's hard to do vibrato on bass flute. Well for me it would be.

  • @KalafinaVD no, the piccolo does not take less air because it is smaller, it takes more air than a bass flute because the embouchure hole is smaller and you lose 98% of your air. A bass flute has a larger embouchure hole therefore, you loose less air playing so most people get a better response. I personally love piccolo but given a choice, I would much rather play bass flute for that reason.

  • is this the jupiter bass? if it is would you reccomend the jupiter? the tone one the video is excellent.

  • The tone is exquisite. Just beautiful.

  • @texjoyrn1 that's right, the sound its beautiful

  • I'm digging those low notes. i get chills listening to them. there so crisp. or to me at least. lol

  • False. The piccolo takes less air because it is smaller.

  • bass flutes are love <3 I miss mine so much

  • @uberlutra What happened to it?

  • I can this take less air than a piccolo. A piccolo is smaller and for me its hard to play low notes... actually since its bigger than it should be eaier, right?? Well either way thats good to hear becuase I wanna play alto or bass flute :3

  • and i thought the piccolo took a lot of air to use. omg.

  • whereabouts would one go about acquiring a bass flute? O_O *envy*

  • actually this uses less air than a piccolo.

  • i play the bass as well, and it's alot lighter and easier to play than it looks. but then again, it might just come to me easier than someone else. either way, it's one of the coolest instruments i've had the chance to play. If you like the low register on the C flute, and how the vibrations feel under the keys like I do, then you'd love the bass cause that's all it is...rich, velvety vibrations.

  • WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??! THATS NOT A FLUTE!!! THATS FLUTEZILLA!!!!

    *Stares at my flute*

    You need drugs...

  • Very nice

  • I like how the sound of the keys striking the instrument during those faster sections like at 3:24 actually add to the overall beauty of the piece.

  • It sounds like a clarinet a little bit :D

  • I fell in love these flutes at band camp. My high school has a bass flute (I love the comments I get on it at music festivals), but I'm only going to be there for another year and a half, so I'm really considering buying my own.

  • I have been asking my band director foreverrrrrr for one of those for the school. Sadly, no luck yet :( But I'm just a freshman. By senior year, it'll happen.

  • i want one of those D:

    how much would it cost?

  • Did you write this song? and if not who is this by because I will be purchasing a bass flute soon and I want to have some cool pieces to play

    Adrian McGrady

  • Is the bass flute played liek a normal flute ? Because I'm thinking of getting one...

  • @Alisen12 Bass flutes are played with the same fingerings as a concert flute. The difference is that they're heavier and your fingers are a bit more spread apart. You just have to figure out how to balance it.

  • katatekween33 try a piccolo or two.

  • Every time I hear a bass flute it depresses me a little bit that so little is written for them. I'm not much of a flute fan in general, but this kind I could just listen to forever.

  • Super beautiful timbre. I play a ton of instruments too, definitely including cello.

  • its bbeatufiul and creepy sounding at the same time

  • @piplupmaster100 It's not creepy, it's awesome! :D

  • omg i wanna play bass flute soooo badly!!! its has such a beautiful soothing sound! i guess ill stick with clarinet and bassoon.... for now :D

  • @1Erona2 Bassoon: Yay!

    Clarinet: -.-

  • Where would you buy one of these?

  • I love the bass flute so much, it's so haunting and beautiful.

  • pretty and creppy at the same time, i love it

  • Beautiful sound.

  • great solo. the sound is beautiful and the expression is great! thanks for sharing. what brand is your bass flute? any advices if i decide to buy one? all the best from Portugal!

  • Hahaha this reminds me of the Jungle Book a lot. I love it!

  • bass flute? what the hell i didn't know there was such a thing. probably a lot easier on the ears than a regular flute though

  • Once again, you win. It sounds really nice, the tone is great, the overall effect is great.

How many instruments do you play?

  • that must take a lot of air to play

  • @BLUESCLUES111222 It does. I've tried once, and I used a lot of air.

  • @BLUESCLUES111222 Certainly more than bassoon.

  • Instrument Maniac? More like Instrument Prodigy!

  • its not tht i dont like the instrument or the way he plays it i just dont care too much for the song

  • This is so amazing! Bass anything is amazing really. lawl.

  • doesn't really matter now does it "retard" :)

  • Oh wow, I really like the rich bass in the bass flute! Very nicely played Luke- this is my first time hearing a bass flute (I still have to see your other bass flute videos). I don't exactly know what Debussy's Syrins is, lol. It did, however, remind me of a cave too! I've been to 4 or 5 caves before xD Can't wait to hear more!

  • It does remind me of Debussy's Syrinx.

  • now that's a cool instrument!
