  • "best friend of the character"!!! ha!

  • AI is not used in most games to its fullest extent simply because of the processing overheads. I guess AI directors wont go mainstream until microsoft bung it into Direct X 12 or somthing. There could be some space for a dungeon generator which created the envirment before instancing . Tho again I've not seen a sucessful one of these yet implemented in a mainstream game.

  • @Microblitz I'm not sure I fully understand what you're talking about, but could it be something along the lines of the Diablo series random-dungeon-generator? If I recall correctly, every time you started a new game, the levels would be automatically generated (some elements hard-coded to always appear in certain areas/levels, like quest objectives), but the monsters, bosses and other sub-levels would be random and, therefore, quite replayable.

If you meant something else, sorry for butting in!

  • What's nutty about these videos (Posted in 2008), is that they are talking about a version of D&D that hasn't been officially supported for about ten years now.

  • geeks or nerds play that!

  • @englandman2k9 Heh and running a MOH server isnt geeky or nerdy? You need to look at yourself from a different perpective buddy!

  • @Microblitz A WHAT SERVER?! i don't know what the fuck your chatting about!

  • The Bob Ross of table top role playing games.

  • No one plays D&D around me. Is there anywhere you can play online? Like AIM?

  • try never winter nights

  • @HelloMyNameIsMattZ only DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online) from what i can think of, but it is limited by the non-rp comunity, limited races, no backgroud, and over all it is a good bit diffrent... it is real-time / not turnbased

Also no fee to DL and no monthly fee to play.

  • @sand4839 It depends by what you mean by turn based. DDO is actually turn based, it just appears that it is realtime. Once each machine in the area replys to the servers heartbeat by sending its players position and current action, the game server executes the game mechanics and send the results to the clients.

The downside of a computer is that it has no variation, it cannot make things up on the fly, nor change its pre-programmed actions.

  • @Microblitz By turn based i am comparing it to the actual Dungeons and Dragons where each set charicter as an unlimited amount of time to make a move and the other players, enemies, environment, and npc will notchange until after that charicter inicializes the movement / their turn.

While that is only patialy true, new AI directors do help the variation of play (DDO does not have one) though these programs are limited (but lesslimited then others) to their possible outputs.

  • yeah me too. i know some guys that play a warhammer 40k pen&paper. might check that out, but a d&d group would be great.

  • @baujoleiei2933 try and introduce it to your friends

  • It's a shame I don't know anyone that plays D&D.

  • @duckmanham Try to find a VOIP D&D game. There are some forums where this is a topic of conversation, and while it takes away some of the interaction, it does allow you to source a DM from anywhere in the world.

  • @duckmanham Let's hope this wowish 4th edition will create a new generation of people that AT LEAST know how a real rpg works..........
