Who cares about prices? I'd rather fly on an airline that smiles at me and has a "I'm glad to be at work today." True times are tough but they're tough for everybody.

I was at New York Air when this was happening in 1984. It hurt us too. Quite a few costs were laid off on NY (e.g. aircraft acquired by NY and leased to CO) which made our bottom line look pretty poor. And it made it tough for us to get financing. But in all fairness, what Gordon Bethune inherited was an airline with everything going for it (new aircraft, the right cities, the right cost structure) that needed the one critical thing that he had--leadership.

It is due to Lorenzo that the airline industry has been degraded to the Greyhound Bus status it is today! Yes you get cheap fares cross country but you get virtually no service, rude service staff, and seat space barely fit for Tattoo from "Fantasy Island"!

@MrCunob Thing is that is what the public wants. If a fare is $5 cheaper they fly the cheaper airline. Myself I just fly jetBlue if available since they come close to pretty good service.

@fredmurf01 news flash for you: people DO take the cheapest flight, Priceline and others were built onb that concept. I'm not paying $50 more for a fare just so the employee's can make more money. And nobody buys the service of the companny I work for just so I can make money. You are a greedy, class-envy person based on your "the CEO wins" comment. The CEO's job is to maximize shareholder wealth, period! And there is nothing wrong with that-unless you live in Cuba maybe.
