That debate with lifeasahandbag was so much more enjoyable than the presidential debates haha. I'm a man of logic and science, not english, so I'll state my question as best I can. I have a republican friend who says that Bush and republicans in general have nothing to do with the state of the country. The only thing I could think if is maybe bush had nothing to do with this since he's taken more time off than any other president in history, so I guess he's off the hook.
You touched on this subject with that guy earlier, but I would appreciate you to elaborate on this. I guess the problem is I just don't know as much about who makes what decisions in the white house to combat this argument. I'm very much playing catch up as I don't follow politics all the time, but I do my best to make an educated decision when going to the polls. I would appreciate any comments from either side.
Palin is pond scum and needs to crawl back to her Alaskan mudhole where she belongs. She will never be anything in the US political system. More people hate her than not. I don't even know if Alaska wants her back as Governor. Maybe they will impeach her on ethics charges. That would be fitting.
I know who I am voting for, changed my mind about two weeks ago. Vote for who you think will help you personally because the rest doesn't really matter, does it?
Anyone who is completely Left or completely Right is stupid. You can't agree with everything on one side or the other, they both have good points & bad points. I don't know who to vote for, neither candidate impresses me much. Obama just seems like a racist, kinda Socialist in his speeches, McCain seems out of touch with everything... I dunno, Maybe I'll just skip this one.
Sorry for the confusion. What I meant is that most politically conservative pundits are capable of being critical of people within their own party. Most conservatives ARE critical of McCain and Palin but still recognize that their plans are superior to Obama's. Conservatives can be reasonable, but Democrats basically worship their Obamessiah and discredit any criticism of him. Peggy is perpetually critical of Republuican leadership, but she still knows what's best for America.
There has been plenty of criticism of both McCain and Obama from within their own camps. The issue here is the disingenuity of saying one thing in articles and the exact opposite when you think you are off the air. Its the lies and hypocrisy that permate the republican brand, as evidenced by the bald faced lies of McCain and Palin themselves, that are the issue.
There hasn't been ANY criticism from within the Obama camp. "Hypocricy and lies" only seem to permeate the Republican "brand" in the MSM. Few have tried to find dirt on Obama the way they have Palin. There is only one popular opinion in this country; personally, being a conservative in my twenties isn't fucking easy. A lot of people only feel comfortable speaking freely in the company of people with like views. We're tired of being called fascists/racists for not supporting the Obamessiah.
No criticism? Were you in a coma when the democrats were tearing such strips out of each other, that there was some doubt they would even reconcile?
There simply is no excuse for rewarding the party that has been wrecking the US for the last 8 years, if you vote for the republicans you ARE either a fascist, a racist or an idiot. The reasoned case for republicanism has long since been destroyed.
I'm so tired of people saying Republicans have wrecked this country for the last 8 years. Please give me some examples of how this country is any worse off because of the Bush administration. Hint: the executive branch has NO control over spending and we have a Congress controlled by Democrats. Let's see if you can answer this question without accusing me of being either in a coma or being unintelligent and without blaming the Bush admin for things out of their control.
The US is spending millions of dollars a day in Iraq, and are set to spend 3 Trillion plus when its all over and accounted for. The US economy is in the tank, and the US has strained every meaningful international relation it has. Those chickens will come home to roost. The congress has been controlled by Dems for 18 months of the last 8 years. Good grief! Don't you know anything about the subject? Who ELSE should be blamed for wrecking the country BUT the government?
Wars are expensive. The US economy is in the tank, but if you look at the other nations, you'll find we aren't the only ones experiencing a low point in the natural ebb and flow of economic stability. The US has not strained "every meaningful international relation it has" - period. People harp about that and it's pathetically lacking a base. You weren't blaming the government, you were blaming this administration and likening it to the McCain campaign. So which is it?
It's all a matter of perspective. To those of us who understand how things work, this administration *hasn't* resulted in disaster, period. It's also not considered "rewarding" a party by electing it - it's considered *tasking* that party with the responsibility to serve the American people.
The government is split into three branches, two of which aren't Republican. This is a petty issue to argue over, it's just that you're using incorrect language.
"To those of us who understand how things work, this administration *hasn't* resulted in disaster"
Every major economic indicator is worse, some much worse, now than it was at the end of Clintons last term. Deny as much as you like, stick your fingers in your ears and scream "la la la la la" for all I care, it doesn't change the facts.
Lets see. The military of Pakistan, one of Bush's "allies", has orders to fire on American forces that cross the Pakistani border. I'd consider that a strained relationship.
The EU member states just wish the US would grow up, Russia appears to be eager for a full blown shootin' war in the Caucasus & everyone else is keeping the head down. Next you'll tell me the fundamentals of the economy are sound:-)
You "my friend" have not simply been drinking the koolaid, your getting TRANSFUSIONS.
Oh yeah, Pakistan REALLY has a great reputation. The EUMS opinion of the US is consistently positive, and the US shares Europe's opinion that Russia is fucking up.
The economy is doing what it always does - ebbs and flows. The effects of a presidency aren't experienced until after the administration is out of office, so in two years, Obama will take all the credit for a sound economy that he couldn't have possibly affected.
Koolaid? Please note that I haven't resorted to insulting you.
In fact the only thing contributing to an international thaw is the prospect that the US electorate might snap out of the rabid nationalistic republican wankfest that has characterised the last 8 years. European contempt for the US has been near universal for years, only since the arrival of sanity in the form of Obama have things improved.
Unworried? No. Americans aren't the only troops Pakistan is set to fire upon if they cross the border. Look at the circumstances objectively. Ask yourself, why did Musharraf resign? Pakistan has the second highest population of Muslims in the world. They support Iran and share their ardent hate of Israel. The US and Europe support Israel. Any questions?
Oh NOW you realise. Wouldn't it have been nice to cop to that BEFORE supporting a military dictator?
Wow. You really have always been at war with Eurasia, haven't you? You're not just spoofing, ignorant or paid, you're a genuine political unicorn, the mythical republican true believer. I'm awed.
Yes, we exist, despite the masses of people who ignorantly tout a blind faith in Obama and unswerving hate for Bush. It's not easy being a young Republican; there is ONE popular opinion and if you don't share it, you're an "idiot" even though some college kid with NO understanding of the issues can put an Obama sticker on her backpack and suddenly she's *got it.* Neither of us are going to change the other's mind on anything, so aren't we just arguing as an exercise in free thought?
Maybe the reason you're all alone is because you ARE wrong? Besides, its most of the rest of the world too, not just ignorant young americans. I'm encouraged by your words:-)
You keep insisting that I am somehow ignorant. I, probably like you, perpetually inundate myself with news stories and try to learn as much as possible about every facet of politics. I am just as annoyed by rednecks who will be voting for McCain for no reason as I am by Obama fans with the same *ignorance.*
I enjoy arguing my point AND calling you names. Besides, the old adhom trope is pretty stale. Pointing out that a full throated endorsement of republicans is akin to mental illness is merely a statment of fact, and hardly controversial. Plus, you're .. kinda boring me, and that always makes me testy.
The fact that you calling me boring was the most insulted I've been all day should say a lot. I always say that Christianity is a mental illness because blind faith is frightening, but my political views are actually fluid and open to change. I had an Obama sticker on my last car though I've been a registered Republican since 18. I think for myself... I swear.
Oh come on, I'm just pushing the envelope. It was a calculated insult, and quite insincere. Your actually pretty articulate, I just cannot imagine the mindset that honestly thinks voting republican is a good idea.
Thank God it's only the internet. Voting Republican is actually not as tough this go around; my parents (R) have always disliked McCain for not being conservative *enough*, and now, according to the media, he's part of the far right? Give me a break. He reaches across the aisle. Ann Coulter hates him for Christ's sake (if that's not reason enough to love him, I don't know what is). He's the Democrat Republican. Some call him McClinton... shouldn't you guys be happy either way?
"Some call him McClinton... shouldn't you guys be happy either way? "
No. He is a republican. Republican rule has wrecked the country by any objective standard. It is lunacy to reward the incompetence, arrogance and reckless hubris of republican rule, with another 4 to 8 years on the grounds that McCain is not entirely deep red. Go the whole hog and replace government, senate and congress. Besides, with an arch conservative let Sarah Palin on the ticket? Not in a million years.
Besides, Obama is a good, maybe a great candidate. Yet, even if he was a lackluster, merely adequate sap, you should STILL elect him on the grounds that it is dangerous folly to reward what we've seen transpire in the last eight years.
The only reason not to elect would be proven incompetence, cronyism or bald faced lying, and the only person this disqualifies would be Sarah Palin, and on all 3 grounds. Even JM is on thinish ice now due to his dodgy ad spots. I'm sorry, but they do sicken me.
...I've got nothing. I would tell you to watch my videos on conservative politics, but I deleted all of them to start fresh. So... watch them later, when they exist.
Finally if you have an issue with faith and christianity what the FUCK are you thinking? On creationism, stem cell research and church state seperation, every issue in other words that you should be championing, McCain and Palin are pissing, no shiting, in your soup. How any self respecting atheist or agnostic could countenance those two for a second is a mystery.
I have really, really weird views that I would absolutely love to discuss further, but I haven't slept or eaten in over 31 hours and I really think my brain just might shut down if I don't give it something other than coffee in the next five minutes. Plus I really hate youtube comments as a forum, in general.
"Koolaid? Please note that I haven't resorted to insulting you."
Please, don't get all whiny. Face it, an enthusiastic embrace of the republicans such as you espouse, can only stem from ignorance, or mental illness. You seem like a fairly bright guy I'm afraid.
You exhibit an amazing double standard, or at the very least a kind of selective amnesia. Palin got hammered about her wierd church for a few days at most, yet we had hot and cold running Reverend Wright for the best part of a month! Where were you?
Nobody gives a shit about Rev. Wright or his comments. Obama distanced himself from that church as soon as the shit hit the fan. The church Palin is getting so much heat over hasn't been her church for almost 6 years and her comments were directed to an audience that shared her beliefs and were completely tame (Pray til you're red in the face for all I care.); I do NOT believe her religion will influence her policy, so why does it matter?
My point wasn't wether or not it matters (although I think it certainly does), it was about your claim that "Few have tried to find dirt on Obama the way they have Palin." That is obviously wrong to anyone remotely familiar with for example the Reverend Wright affair. Or the "fistbump" debacle, or the "he was raised a muslim" meme. Wall to wall bogus for weeks and months, and you haven't noticed any of it. Gee.
Haha, pecker-heads. Although, Chuck Todd is a political genius...I prefer that he doesn't ruin those good feelings with any partisan opinions he may have.
This goes to show that they are PAID to promote the Republican Party..but in their REAL LIVES... Hypocrites. These people are just as bad as the neo cons..they are drones..who are hurting EVERYBODY in their payout process of "journalism". The country really needs them to say what they think ON THE AIR TODAY..before it's too late..and they will have to ask Mr. Orwell permission to fart!!!
Did I mention who I want as prez? No, no I didn't. I was just stating an opinion and commenting on what the tempo was around the office. I found it interesting. That's all.
Oh yeah, and I poked fun at Ms. Teen runner up; for whatever reason.
ANCHORAGE - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business. Palin's daughters and husband charged the state $43,490 to travel; many of the trips were to and from their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away. More of the same elitism portaying themselves as regular folk!
Gumygirl... You are going to have to swallow soon... your words that would be. Peggy Noonan is a REPUBLICAN speechwriter (for Ronald Regan/George Bush)-turned-columnist. Mike Murphy was John McCain's CAMPAIGN MANAGER in 2000. Chuck Todd is a candidate to replace Tim Russert as host of "Meet the Press"... since Tim passed away.
You are missing point through the fog of your pseudo-intellectual babblings. The people that support Palin really do not care what the right or left pundits have to say. The media in this country has about as much popularity and credibility as the congress or George Bush. The people that support her feel that she is closer to one of their own than the usual suspects.
As for "swallowing soon", sounds like you speak from experience.
Finally, my post was in response to Gummygirl, who made it clear in her posts that she didn't believe the pundits in this conversation had anything to do with the GOP. The tone of my response to her is there because she failed to do the research before posting her comments, and to show her that her comments really hold no weight due to that, and that I feel she should do some research next time.
If you disagree Ukorass, please respond (for I am waiting).
I agree with you concerning research and I will go a bit farther, I am only interested in the truth. I used to be on your side of the aisle. Then life experiences and waking up each morning with the governments hands deeper in my pocket molded my perspective. As for Blue and Red politics, in my humble opinion they both suck. I don't agree with all of Palin's views but I actually like her better than the other 3 on the tickets. I just love an under-dog especially 1 that can shoot.
You are correct, the people WHO support Palin don't care what what the pundits have to say, or, for that matter, what anyone really has to say (which is actually part of the problem). We (Democrats) figured just as much (that her supporters would "gloss" over this one).
Next, whether people like or dislike the media makes no difference here. The GOP pundits' happened to be recorded, and we got to listen to it. We, on this comments board, are stating our own opinion.
The reason this story is so awesome is that you have two GOP strategist spilling the beans on what they REALLY think about McCain's VP choice. The SUPER cool thing is finding out that Peggy Noonan (GOP remember), came out with an article about why she supported Palin just before this "hot microphone" incident (within the same 24hrs). After this incident, both Noonan AND Murphy started backpedaling to try and minimize the damage.
Now, it seems you've made it pretty clear that you are voting Republican, which is your prerogative. So I'll go slowly for you. These two REPUBLICAN strategists (if you don't believe me, do the work and look it up yourself... you don't even have to get up out of your seat) truly thought, like a lot of other people, that Palin was a bad choice for VP.
HOWEVER, when they know they are on-the-air, they tell the cameras/viewers that Palin was a GREAT choice for VP. In case you didn't catch it, they are lying somewhere (because you can't think of it as a good choice and a bad choice at the same time... because that would be illogical, and being illogical is the same as being stupid, AKA dumb as an ox, or an as*).
What this does is shed some light on the workings of the current Republican strategy. What we see is that these strategists are sent out to speak on these news networks, that they are told to "smile" at the cameras, that they should tell the viewers that "everything is going great", and to do it EVEN IF THEY DON'T BELIEVE IT IS GOING GREAT!
This "open mic" incident allowed us to see that it is more important to the leaders of the Republican campaign that these strategists put up a facade (look it up babe if you don't know what it means) than to tell the truth.
In turn, that makes the people looking up to these strategist (some Republicans) lemmings... little critters that follow other little critters, that follow other little critters... without a purpose... just because the one in front of them is going one way... even if the lemmings are all falling down a pit to their doom.
The reason this news is so important is that all of a sudden, Republican strategy, in the face of losing numbers (at the time of this open mic incident), became transparent, and we got to see it for what it is. And what it is is stupid.
What it does is make you look like a lemming, without much of a mind of your own. The fact that liars have you amped up about your party and it's positions tells us that you are getting hot air blown up your A** and that you like it, or that you just don't know any better.
Isn't it interesting that Noonan is still denying the whole thing and insisting that by "It's over" she meant Palin is so popular that "it's over" for Obama. Give me an f'ing break!
WOW lets se how the can spin this one laughing because it's the best time to hear what people really think when the assume no ones listening or around WOW
I never thought I'd hear Peggy Noonan use the term "political bullshit" in a negative context, since she's been eating, breathing and living that stuff since day one.
dude these aren't GOP pundits! The female is taking about Republicans thrid person, as if she's a Democrat. The guy even says he's from the "BLUE State" world. These are liberals and your posting and title are manipulative, inaccurate and bear a plenum of proof to the content of your character. These folks aren't any more Republican than Hillary or Bill! If you don't take down your title, you are a liar my friend!
I have responded to your PM with quite a bit of detail, I'd like to hear what you think once you've gone through that. Rest assured the people doing most of the talking, Noonan and Murphy are republican operatives. About this there is no question.
It also comforts us to know, now (that we saw through Republican strategy), that we really do reason better than you, that we have the facts down better than you, and that the country would really be better off with ideas like ours.
Regardless of what the opinionated liberal talking heads say to brainwash the American people, we can make our own choices and are a lot more discerning than the "upper crust" elitists give us credit for... as we remain clutched to our guns and churches. Apparently we have forgotten over the past 200 years what America was founded for, and ON. "Racist Fundie Retards?" Nothing like a little hate speech to get ya going huh... me, i'm a fundamentalist. Like most of the founding fathers. Not racist.
wrong, on both counts. None of the founding fathers where fundamentalists, but almost all of them were racists. Anything else you'd like to get wrong?
How do you define "fundamentalist"? Me, I say it means "adhering to the fundamentals of the Christian faith". The dictionary says: "...holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines..." which most of the founding fathers adhered to. To deny that is to revise history.
And when I said "not racist" I was referring to myself - character count cut me off.
"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter"
Jefferson was one of many, as as we all know, disavowed any miracles recorded in the gospels. He made his own version of the bible, taking out anything he considered supernatural. Not much was left, after that... but like I said, he was just one of them, and didnt share the same worldview when it came to Christianity.
What a weasle. He didn't share it at ALL, he completely rejected it. As did Benjamin Franklin, Adams and Paine. I can't think of a single quote from the founding fathers that is more than a bit of religious garnish on a secular serving. Some of these guys actively hated the religious establishment, & not one of them EVER said that Jesus was their Lord, or that they had been "saved". They were moral men, who demanded justice and fairness, but they would have been sickened by modern evangelicals.
"They were moral men, who demanded justice and fairness, but they would have been sickened by modern evangelicals."
And would have been denounced as "anti-American" by those very same Evangelical hypocrites who routinely rewrite history to justify their cultist worldview. That's how all cultists operate, be it fundamentalists Muslims/Christians, Nazis, Communists, and NWO Conspiracy loons.
The fact that America's politicians today have to butcher quotes by its noble Founding Fathers is quite telling of how far today's America is from the principles upon which it was founded:
watch?v=AuVVsYNT8O0
America's Founding Fathers REJECTED the superstition of the "Good Book", while the revisionists who want to redress America's Founding Fathers as Christians, embrace it with almost a violent passion, and any attempt to challenge their delusional worldview is regarded as "treason".
The Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves at this historical revisionism. But fundamentalists MUST do this revisionism to claim monopoly on patriotism. The alternative for them, adhering to the historical truth on the subject, will place them on the wrong side of the people who founded this great nation.
These are Liberal Democrat Talking Heads Dumbass! You've lied to further your ridiculous "Global Governance" agenda. American's value Freedomn and do not subscribe to extreme European Socialist Freeks like yourself. It's sad that you lied and called these self described "Blue Stater" Democrats as Republicans, when they are talking about the Republicans in third person, because they are Democrats. You are a liar and put up your misleading title! Go USA! Fuck IRISH Socialists like you!
"which most of the founding fathers adhered to. To deny that is to revise history."
American Christian fundamentalists, being the brainwashed cultists that they are, ARE CHAMPIONS of historical revisionism when it comes to their Founding Fathers.
The Founding Fathers of America were DEISTS who were critical of Christianity, and no amount of time repeating this lie will change history:
watch?v=aJZCDFQdIvo
Why do I sense a projection when you say "revisionism", mr. "robforgod"?
Palin is a disasterous pick, but we cannot count on the population of the US to see the truth of the matter. It the past 8 years tell us anything it's to not underestimate the true stupidity of the American public when it comes to voting against their own interests.
I like MSNBC and all, but shouldn't some engineer be fired at this point due to the lack of ability to turn a microphone switch off. Hilarious! True, but Hilarious
Now, why can't they speak the truth when the cameras are on? Trying to sell us shit they don't even believe (not that I'm surprised). Was there ever such a thing as journalistic integrity?
Lookingforananswer...once there was such a thing as journalistic integrity. Edward R. Morrow and many others saw their duty as journalists to ask the hard questions and hold the politicians accountable. Sadly the press has been beaten down and is now afraid to ask hard questions lest they be portrayed as "liberal".
Yes, even their own elephants have noticed how hot the republican water has become. McCain's choice of Palin was probably made by the influence of one of the one thousand other loose marbles rolling around inside his head. Hopefully, this will eventually sink his ship.
They speak the truth. I hope McCain's choice comes back to bite him in the backside. Were there not more qualified women among the 50 states that he could have chosen? What an insult she is to women.
It is a complete affront. Palin seems to hate women, willing to put the rights of a rapist ahead of her own daughters mental health. Not to mention the disgraceful parading of Bristol and little Trig. She is a disgrace.
I just LOVE the open mic! Just more proof that the Republicans just don't get it. 8 years ago, they torpedoed McCain because he doesn't play ball and this year he was left for dead before they had no choice but to support him or stay home. NOW they get this political neophyte dropped on 'em and they're about to gag! They can't stand him, but they can't stand the idea of being out of power more! I loved McCain 8 years ago, but that was EIGHT years ago. Face it, he's screwed the pooch on this one.
WOW,.. not like this is a surprise to anyone. Just shows how stupid people can be. Nice to know that the feminist movement is finally dead. Just seems that the "wrong gal", not "their gal", is in the fight, and their showing their collective, true colors. "Republicans are scum"?..Really? That would make Democrates, what? Just as bad.
It's not about her gender, thats just republican projection, it's about her POLICIES and the endless, cascading torrent of hypocrisy. Abstinence? What abstinence? We don't need no stinkin' abstinence ...
As a woman I'm disgusted by Mccain's choice of Palin there are wonderful qualified Republican women, Elizabeth Dole, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Kay Hutchison, Linda Lingle, Christie Whitman, Deborah Pryce, to name a few who have clean records with no ongoing investigations into their ethics don't have a history of being for AIP a history of backing creationism, abstinence only in schools, sorry Bristol. What parent puts

You don't reward the incumbent party responsible for the disaster by re-electing it. Seriously : Democracy ... ur doin' it rong.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
It's all a matter of perspective. To those of us who understand how things work, this administration *hasn't* resulted in disaster, period. It's also not considered "rewarding" a party by electing it - it's considered *tasking* that party with the responsibility to serve the American people.
The government is split into three branches, two of which aren't Republican. This is a petty issue to argue over, it's just that you're using incorrect language.
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
"To those of us who understand how things work, this administration *hasn't* resulted in disaster"
Every major economic indicator is worse, some much worse, now than it was at the end of Clintons last term. Deny as much as you like, stick your fingers in your ears and scream "la la la la la" for all I care, it doesn't change the facts.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Oh yeah, Pakistan REALLY has a great reputation. The EUMS opinion of the US is consistently positive, and the US shares Europe's opinion that Russia is fucking up.
The economy is doing what it always does - ebbs and flows. The effects of a presidency aren't experienced until after the administration is out of office, so in two years, Obama will take all the credit for a sound economy that he couldn't have possibly affected.
Koolaid? Please note that I haven't resorted to insulting you.
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
"Pakistan REALLY has a great reputation"
"US shares Europe's opinion that Russia is fucking up"
Oh I forgot. We've ALWAYS been at war with Eurasia. These countries were "allies". Now they want to shoot Americans. This leaves you unworried?
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
In fact the only thing contributing to an international thaw is the prospect that the US electorate might snap out of the rabid nationalistic republican wankfest that has characterised the last 8 years. European contempt for the US has been near universal for years, only since the arrival of sanity in the form of Obama have things improved.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Unworried? Any questions?
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
Oh NOW you realise. Wouldn't it have been nice to cop to that BEFORE supporting a military dictator?
Wow. You really have always been at war with Eurasia, haven't you? You're not just spoofing, ignorant or paid, you're a genuine political unicorn, the mythical republican true believer. I'm awed.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Yes, we exist, despite the masses of people who ignorantly tout a blind faith in Obama and unswerving hate for Bush. It's not easy being a young Republican; there is ONE popular opinion and if you don't share it, you're an "idiot" even though some college kid with NO understanding of the issues can put an Obama sticker on her backpack and suddenly she's *got it.* Neither of us are going to change the other's mind on anything, so aren't we just arguing as an exercise in free thought?
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
Maybe the reason you're all alone is because you ARE wrong? Besides, its most of the rest of the world too, not just ignorant young americans. I'm encouraged by your words:-)
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
You keep insisting that I am somehow ignorant. I, probably like you, perpetually inundate myself with news stories and try to learn as much as possible about every facet of politics. I am just as annoyed by rednecks who will be voting for McCain for no reason as I am by Obama fans with the same *ignorance.*
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
Aren't you tired of everyone agreeing with you all the time anyway? Why resort to name calling when you could just... argue your point.
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
I enjoy arguing my point AND calling you names. Besides, the old adhom trope is pretty stale. Pointing out that a full throated endorsement of republicans is akin to mental illness is merely a statment of fact, and hardly controversial. Plus, you're .. kinda boring me, and that always makes me testy.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
The fact that you calling me boring was the most insulted I've been all day should say a lot. I always say that Christianity is a mental illness because blind faith is frightening, but my political views are actually fluid and open to change. I had an Obama sticker on my last car though I've been a registered Republican since 18. I think for myself... I swear.
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
Oh come on, I'm just pushing the envelope. It was a calculated insult, and quite insincere. Your actually pretty articulate, I just cannot imagine the mindset that honestly thinks voting republican is a good idea.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Thank God it's only the internet. Voting Republican is actually not as tough this go around; my parents (R) have always disliked McCain for not being conservative *enough*, and now, according to the media, he's part of the far right? Give me a break. He reaches across the aisle. Ann Coulter hates him for Christ's sake (if that's not reason enough to love him, I don't know what is). He's the Democrat Republican. Some call him McClinton... shouldn't you guys be happy either way?
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
"Some call him McClinton... shouldn't you guys be happy either way? "
No. He is a republican. Republican rule has wrecked the country by any objective standard. It is lunacy to reward the incompetence, arrogance and reckless hubris of republican rule, with another 4 to 8 years on the grounds that McCain is not entirely deep red. Go the whole hog and replace government, senate and congress. Besides, with an arch conservative let Sarah Palin on the ticket? Not in a million years.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Besides, Obama is a good, maybe a great candidate. Yet, even if he was a lackluster, merely adequate sap, you should STILL elect him on the grounds that it is dangerous folly to reward what we've seen transpire in the last eight years.
The only reason not to elect would be proven incompetence, cronyism or bald faced lying, and the only person this disqualifies would be Sarah Palin, and on all 3 grounds. Even JM is on thinish ice now due to his dodgy ad spots. I'm sorry, but they do sicken me.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
...I've got nothing. I would tell you to watch my videos on conservative politics, but I deleted all of them to start fresh. So... watch them later, when they exist.
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
Finally if you have an issue with faith and christianity what the FUCK are you thinking? On creationism, stem cell research and church state seperation, every issue in other words that you should be championing, McCain and Palin are pissing, no shiting, in your soup. How any self respecting atheist or agnostic could countenance those two for a second is a mystery.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
I have really, really weird views that I would absolutely love to discuss further, but I haven't slept or eaten in over 31 hours and I really think my brain just might shut down if I don't give it something other than coffee in the next five minutes. Plus I really hate youtube comments as a forum, in general.

TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
"Koolaid? Please note that I haven't resorted to insulting you."
Please, don't get all whiny. Face it, an enthusiastic embrace of the republicans such as you espouse, can only stem from ignorance, or mental illness. You seem like a fairly bright guy I'm afraid.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
You exhibit an amazing double standard, or at the very least a kind of selective amnesia. Palin got hammered about her wierd church for a few days at most, yet we had hot and cold running Reverend Wright for the best part of a month! Where were you?
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Nobody gives a shit about Rev. Wright or his comments. Obama distanced himself from that church as soon as the shit hit the fan. The church Palin is getting so much heat over hasn't been her church for almost 6 years and her comments were directed to an audience that shared her beliefs and were completely tame (Pray til you're red in the face for all I care.); I do NOT believe her religion will influence her policy, so why does it matter?
lifeasahandbag 3 years ago
My point wasn't wether or not it matters (although I think it certainly does), it was about your claim that "Few have tried to find dirt on Obama the way they have Palin." That is obviously wrong to anyone remotely familiar with for example the Reverend Wright affair. Or the "fistbump" debacle, or the "he was raised a muslim" meme. Wall to wall bogus for weeks and months, and you haven't noticed any of it. Gee.

OjLeno 3 years ago
OjLeno
You are missing point through the fog of your pseudo-intellectual babblings. The people that support Palin really do not care what the right or left pundits have to say. The media in this country has about as much popularity and credibility as the congress or George Bush. The people that support her feel that she is closer to one of their own than the usual suspects.
As for "swallowing soon", sounds like you speak from experience.
UKORASS 3 years ago
Finally, my post was in response to Gummygirl, who made it clear in her posts that she didn't believe the pundits in this conversation had anything to do with the GOP. The tone of my response to her is there because she failed to do the research before posting her comments, and to show her that her comments really hold no weight due to that, and that I feel she should do some research next time.
If you disagree Ukorass, please respond (for I am waiting).
OjLeno 3 years ago
OjLeno
I agree with you concerning research and I will go a bit farther, I am only interested in the truth. I used to be on your side of the aisle. Then life experiences and waking up each morning with the governments hands deeper in my pocket molded my perspective. As for Blue and Red politics, in my humble opinion they both suck. I don't agree with all of Palin's views but I actually like her better than the other 3 on the tickets. I just love an under-dog especially 1 that can shoot.
UKORASS 3 years ago
Ukorass

OjLeno 3 years ago
3/10
Now, it seems you've made it pretty clear that you are voting Republican, which is your prerogative. So I'll go slowly for you. These two REPUBLICAN strategists (if you don't believe me, do the work and look it up yourself... you don't even have to get up out of your seat) truly thought, like a lot of other people, that Palin was a bad choice for VP.
OjLeno 3 years ago
4/10
HOWEVER, when they know they are on-the-air, they tell the cameras/viewers that Palin was a GREAT choice for VP. In case you didn't catch it, they are lying somewhere (because you can't think of it as a good choice and a bad choice at the same time... because that would be illogical, and being illogical is the same as being stupid, AKA dumb as an ox, or an as*).
OjLeno 3 years ago
5/10
What this does is shed some light on the workings of the current Republican strategy. What we see is that these strategists are sent out to speak on these news networks, that they are told to "smile" at the cameras, that they should tell the viewers that "everything is going great", and to do it EVEN IF THEY DON'T BELIEVE IT IS GOING GREAT!
OjLeno 3 years ago
6/10
This "open mic" incident allowed us to see that it is more important to the leaders of the Republican campaign that these strategists put up a facade (look it up babe if you don't know what it means) than to tell the truth.
OjLeno 3 years ago
7/10
In turn, that makes the people looking up to these strategist (some Republicans) lemmings... little critters that follow other little critters, that follow other little critters... without a purpose... just because the one in front of them is going one way... even if the lemmings are all falling down a pit to their doom.
OjLeno 3 years ago
8/10
The reason this news is so important is that all of a sudden, Republican strategy, in the face of losing numbers (at the time of this open mic incident), became transparent, and we got to see it for what it is. And what it is is stupid.
OjLeno 3 years ago
9/10
What it does is make you look like a lemming, without much of a mind of your own. The fact that liars have you amped up about your party and it's positions tells us that you are getting hot air blown up your A** and that you like it, or that you just don't know any better.

Not racist.
robforgod 3 years ago
wrong, on both counts. None of the founding fathers where fundamentalists, but almost all of them were racists. Anything else you'd like to get wrong?
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
How do you define "fundamentalist"? Me, I say it means "adhering to the fundamentals of the Christian faith". The dictionary says: "...holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines..." which most of the founding fathers adhered to. To deny that is to revise history.
And when I said "not racist" I was referring to myself - character count cut me off.
Anything else YOU'd like to get wrong?

TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
Jefferson was one of many, as as we all know, disavowed any miracles recorded in the gospels. He made his own version of the bible, taking out anything he considered supernatural. Not much was left, after that... but like I said, he was just one of them, and didnt share the same worldview when it came to Christianity.
robforgod 3 years ago
What a weasle. He didn't share it at ALL, he completely rejected it. As did Benjamin Franklin, Adams and Paine. I can't think of a single quote from the founding fathers that is more than a bit of religious garnish on a secular serving. Some of these guys actively hated the religious establishment, & not one of them EVER said that Jesus was their Lord, or that they had been "saved". They were moral men, who demanded justice and fairness, but they would have been sickened by modern evangelicals.
TheModestAgnostic 3 years ago
"They were moral men, who demanded justice and fairness, but they would have been sickened by modern evangelicals."
And would have been denounced as "anti-American" by those very same Evangelical hypocrites who routinely rewrite history to justify their cultist worldview. That's how all cultists operate, be it fundamentalists Muslims/Christians, Nazis, Communists, and NWO Conspiracy loons.
Akatam0t0ma 3 years ago
The fact that America's politicians today have to butcher quotes by its noble Founding Fathers is quite telling of how far today's America is from the principles upon which it was founded:
watch?v=AuVVsYNT8O0
America's Founding Fathers REJECTED the superstition of the "Good Book", while the revisionists who want to redress America's Founding Fathers as Christians, embrace it with almost a violent passion, and any attempt to challenge their delusional worldview is regarded as "treason".
Akatam0t0ma 3 years ago
The Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves at this historical revisionism. But fundamentalists MUST do this revisionism to claim monopoly on patriotism. The alternative for them, adhering to the historical truth on the subject, will place them on the wrong side of the people who founded this great nation.
Akatam0t0ma 3 years ago 2

gummygirl05 3 years ago

I just LOVE the open mic! Just more proof that the Republicans just don't get it. 8 years ago, they torpedoed McCain because he doesn't play ball and this year he was left for dead before they had no choice but to support him or stay home. NOW they get this political neophyte dropped on 'em and they're about to gag! They can't stand him, but they can't stand the idea of being out of power more! I loved McCain 8 years ago, but that was EIGHT years ago. Face it, he's screwed the pooch on this one.

Just seems that the "wrong gal", not "their gal", is in the fight, and their showing their collective, true colors. "Republicans are scum"?..Really? That would make Democrates, what? Just as bad.
