dont worry guys i figured it out. i just purchased a logitech z-5500 and il be able to plug that into the optical port at the back of the ps3 for digital lossless sound ;)
Hi i just ordered a ps3 and i would like to able to use it in my room. I have a samsung synchmaster 206BW and i will be connecting the ps3 to it using a dvi to hdmi cable. How do i get sound? As you all know the monitor i have does not have embedded sound. Please help.
I have to connect the audio cable to the tv and I used the red and white jack for collegrli to a sound system ... it works ... so excuse the language but I am Italian

well, it doesn't NEED to be hdmi but it will spare u of some headaches in the future. i played for over a year on a 22" dell over a dvi connection. then switched to a hdmi tv, and had to get a new cable because the first one was hdmi to dvi. i also played at 780p, same as now with a 32tv. i've used 1080p and at this small sizes there is not difference. to avoid the problem i had (getting a NEW cable) u could get a hdmi to hdmi cable and a hdmi to dvi converter.
so it really depends on what you want. dvi is only the video part of hdmi, with the same quality (hdmi = video plus sound). if u play that way, you can still use the standard ps3 connector to output audio through rca.
depending on your budget, a 20 inches or more lcd will do the trick just fine. i also recommend you getting one that has more than 1 connections (ie: dvi + analog) so u don't have to unplug something to connect the pc or another device. the dell 24 ultrasharp has LOTS of inputs

and you should be able to use your monitor for ur ps3...once u r in the xmb...go to display setting and set the output...don't use 1080i it would look worse than using my tv box somehow...
btw...if you see the "not optimal.." message...just press any button on the monitor and that box will just go away..usually i will just press the "menu" instead...try it and c if it works

i believe on this monitor it is 720p most at 1680x1050 will just support 720p which is why im looking at buying a 1920x1200 monitor and theyre bigger too :)
my friend has this monitor but he hasnt hookeup his ps3 up to it yet im pretty sure itll be 720p though certain monitors of this res will also play 1080p but with the image cut rather than scaled so a lot of people leave it at 720p anyway it still looks great at that res but 1920x1200 supports full 1080p letterboxed which i like...
hey i just bought the 226bw today for my ps3, and everything works great except wen i keep a wallpaper in teh background of the xmb, i noticed how som icons of the xmb such as the account logo, picture file, musics, have this bluish purpulish shine on the icon, and wen i play game slke moterstorm, i often see a purplish rubbed glare in certain objects...do u get this to?..it sorta has thsi rainbow colour in it..

u can't stop it, but if u haven't already figured it out u can press the menu button to get rid of it straight away without having to wait for it to dissapear.

If you look at close range and games in 720p or less Yes.

When you see this screen you must crush "menu" (it is located next to the button of start)
