I'm not an expert in much of anything, but there is one thing I can speak to with confidence - I was born (or cursed) with perfect pitch - and believe me, I know when anyone is even the slightest bit off-key. This was noticeably off

"Perfect pitch" IS actually something people are born with - like blue eyes or or a third nipple. it's not something i'm particularly proud of or have made any great use of as a musician. As I mentioned in my post, it's more often a burden than a blessing to me, because I always hear when tones are even the slightest bit off - so it becomes a distraction, when sometimes i just want to enjoy. I agree with you actually - music is about heart.
