    EPIC

  • What's the horn called that looks like a trumpet pointing up?

  • @MrTheguyofbigbite it is actually a normal trumpet. dizzy liked to heat it and bend the belll up. he said in an interview it was because he liked to have the bell on a line with his ear so he could hear his music better

  • @bigmags212 I think you can actually custom order trumpets with the upswept bell. Jon Faddis' horn was the same way.

  • @bigmags212 I read that he bent the first one in a bus accident!

  • @MrTheguyofbigbite that is a trumpet, but with an upswept bell. The story behind that is that one night, Dizzy's trumpet fell and wound up that way. Dizzy liked how he was able to hear himself better and kept all his horns that way.

  • whats funny is the napkin he wipes his face with is laced with cocain lol

  • Groovin percussion section

  • don't puff your cheeks out kids

  • Too much Swag.

  • He seems to have two dangerous cheek tumors

  • Hehe, Im Finally Proud To Be A Cuban Who Plays Sax :D

  • What kind of mouthpiece does Jimmy Heath use?

  • Brilliant Music

  • wwwwooooooooo that was smokin!

  • Dizzy makes me dizzy !

    Great personarity !

  • Listening and enjoying this fantastic music wears you out...in a good way. Thanks for sharing.

  • Dizzy Gillespie has made youtube history in this video, by making it the first not to be disliked. I mean... it's obvious why

  • does anyone know who arranged this? was it Diz?

  • @teddyfreeloader Melba Liston, who has the trombone solo on this, was a highly respected arranger. Might have been her.

  • wow! they are the hippest! i just saw a cool version of Manteca mashed with the police message in a bottle by an L.a band. pretty awesome. ck it out.

    search manteca in a bottle

  • wow young john fadis! awesome group

  • I don't see Max Roach anywhere...?

  • @ISammael He comes out later. This whole show is awesome.

  • @jacmeade do you have that video somewhere? i'd love to see what he played on.

  • @ISammael I don't have it but it is available on DVD as "Dizzy's Dream Band". Definitely worth getting. The whole show is excellent.

  • grande grande Dizzy!!!

  • Dizzy was so ahead of his time: he knew Youtube would have a 10 min limit!!

  • I laughed at the sticking first valve at about 2:20

I've experienced something similar to this during one of my solo's for jazz band.

Even the conductor knew something was wrong.

However he did recover very well and for that i applaud you Trumpet soloist.

    *clap clap clap*

  • @fghjkl4666 when you're playing that high it hardly matters which valves you press!!

  • @tasogare82

That may be an accurate claim, however as you can obviously tell his first valve was stuck all the way down, and he played it cool like a man. That's what i applaud. When musician can play it cool when the worst things go down makes them waaay better.

  • Great video! Diz rocks!!

  • Hells Yeah!!!!!!!!! Rockin' and soooo tight!

  • Priceless !

  • Dizzy's jizzin' all over that stage!!

  • the secret weapon, Mr. Grady Tate.

  • the description on the right is describing the whole concert, which I have on DVD. Max comes out for a feature or two if I remember, including one on just the hi-hat, but Grady is the drummer with the big band throughout.

  • Curtis Fuller & (I guess) Melba Liston in are in the 'bone section.

  • I'm playing this song in my local jazz band and well...its not easy;
