In the Philippines the Filipino calls Manteca as mantika which means lard or cooking oil while mantequilla as mantikilya meaning butter or margarine.
@MrTheguyofbigbite it is actually a normal trumpet. dizzy liked to heat it and bend the belll up. he said in an interview it was because he liked to have the bell on a line with his ear so he could hear his music better
@MrTheguyofbigbite that is a trumpet, but with an upswept bell. The story behind that is that one night, Dizzy's trumpet fell and wound up that way. Dizzy liked how he was able to hear himself better and kept all his horns that way.
I had the wonderful privlageof meeting John Fattis at a jazz camp. At my camp we recently convered this song check it out its on my channel tell me if you like it!
That may be an accurate claim, however as you can obviously tell his first valve was stuck all the way down, and he played it cool like a man. That's what i applaud. When musician can play it cool when the worst things go down makes them waaay better.
the description on the right is describing the whole concert, which I have on DVD. Max comes out for a feature or two if I remember, including one on just the hi-hat, but Grady is the drummer with the big band throughout.
but...dizzy's not playing..it be `John Faddis (no complaints there)

What's the horn called that looks like a trumpet pointing up?

@bigmags212 I think you can actually custom order trumpets with the upswept bell. Jon Faddis' horn was the same way.

@bigmags212 I read that he bent the first one in a bus accident!

Dizzy Gillespie has made youtube history in this video, by making it the first not to be disliked. I mean... it's obvious why

does anyone know who arranged this? was it Diz?
teddyfreeloader 11 months ago
@teddyfreeloader Melba Liston, who has the trombone solo on this, was a highly respected arranger. Might have been her.

I laughed at the sticking first valve at about 2:20
I've experienced something similar to this during one of my solo's for jazz band.
Even the conductor knew something was wrong.
However he did recover very well and for that i applaud you Trumpet soloist.
*clap clap clap*
