Most gangbangers are in the gangs to protect their home territories or because if they're not in the gang they're just another victim. They just hang out and talk smack and have no interest in the torturing or the killing, and they won't disrespect their families or their heritage by beating up a priest.

As a Leverage devotee, I tried watching a couple of episodes of Hustle when some of my friends who'd seen both said it was much better. I choked down the first two, then quit in the middle of the third one, wondering why I was still watching such an inferior and unenjoyable show. So what if Leverage is based off Hustle? If you can do such a fantastically better job as this, remake any show you want!

But this is a genuinely good remake of a British show - just different enough not to attract a lawsuit.

I'm 4 episodes into season 1 and enjoying it.

Differences between this and Hustle:

1. a character who beats people up (but also a great advocate of "gun control"!)

2. an agile female thief

3. The black guy isn't running the group

4. flashier gadgets - less based in reality

5. faster pace due to shorter running time

2. The sexy woman and the leader had a thing in the past

3. The scene where the whole gang watches slide shows about the mark

5. "the reveal" sequence to explain how the mark got conned

6. Jazzy-funky soundtrack

A copy - yes.

But a very good one - perfect for when Hustle's not on.

I like Hustle and Leverage, but Leverage is not a copy of Hustle if none of the creators knew anything about Hustle. Outside UK, Hustle is not well known and I only heard of Hustle after watching Leverage. Leverage is based on It Takes a Thief, A-team, Ocean 11 and a few more shows, but not Hustle. I'm sure Hustle also used the same model and that's why it's similar.

Hmmm - at the very least, the continuing popularity of UK Hustle (on the BBC) must have persuaded some US TV mogul that something similar would be worth a shot. These executives have a very firm eye on the BBC.

That's why they knew about great shows like "Life on Mars", "Coupling", "Being Human", "The Office" etc.

At least two of those were hopless when remade in the US - they should have done a "Leverage" and just taken the basic idea and made a brand new show.

It's about a team of conmen who fleece greedy wankers out of their money using clever deceptions.

The accents are easy to understand, although some of the team do a "Sophie" and put on various British/foreign accents when required.

The team has a leader, a sexy swindler, a tech-guy, a roper (US actor Robert Vaughan, whose job is to suck in the marks) and a confidence trickster.

If you understood Torchwood, you'll have no problem understanding this.

Good - its source series "Hustle" has survived 7 series (the ratings are excellent so far for the current series - despite a graveyard 9pm Friday night slot - comparable with the best any of the previous series have averaged).

I'm pleased that it's going to 4 series. There can't be enough heist and con TV series in my opinion. This kind of imaginative, clever, escapist TV is just what we need in this gloomy day and age.
