@TheWizardAndElphaba - SeaWorld benefits because it means they can keep orcas at LP if they cannot bring them stateside. For example, US laws prevent Morgan from coming into the US, but SeaWorld can still keep her at LP, and use her for breeding.
They are in desperate need of fresh genes, however wild orcas are not allowed to be imported into the US. Loro Parque is in a convenient position that they don't need to answer to US laws. And EU ones now apparently.
Omfg, that is absolutely horrific! You can see how stressed out he is! Why did they give him an endoscopy, is he having gasto issues? completely agree with you about the "pod" I herd Kohana is really nasty and Teko gets bullied a lot. Its going to be even worse when Morgan goes there. Morgan needs a mother figure. I have this feeling too that Teko is going to start bullying Morgan to try and get some sort of higher rank... its going to be a disaster.
@wootirockx - I agree, Morgan is too young and an immature whale to be sent to a park with absolutely no pod structure at all. If she were to be sent into captivity, she would need somewhere with an older female who can take care of her.
Also, they did the endoscopy because Keto and the other orcas were eating the tank paint sealant and the trainers wanted to see if it was causing them any pain/problems. Apparently it doesn't, and they still eat the paint to this day :S
@FreedomForOrcas I just cant see Morgan fitting in, I really can see Teko bullying her. Seriously? well their methods of giving him the endoscopy is terrible. I actually filled up watching that video, Keto was litually screaming.
@FreedomForOrcas If I had a choice; I would try realesing her before giving herto a park. If I had to choose a park, I would choose Seaworld San Diego because Corky II is an excellant mother figure and the pod is well structered. Wow I can't spell... but at least if she went to a park like seaworld where they are trained to have tubing go down to their stomach Morgan would never have to go through something like this. Poor Keto it was a terrible video to watch.
@notdotcalm - SeaWorld pretty much controls what happens with the orcas at LP. If they wanted to send her to SW, they could've. They don't care about Morgan, seeing as it was their idea to send her to LP in the first place.
also, orcas get along just fine in the wild without an endoscopy. I heard they were looking to remove paint chips from his intestine, don't paint the tank, make sure debris aren't falling in either and you have no reason to put Keto through that amount of stress. After all, stress weakens their immune system and causes so many premature deaths. Over the edge fanatics will say this was all procedure, but I think anyone else can this is animal abuse, clearly.
@124yuppers - True, true. And yes, because LP had decided to use cheap sealant (stops paint from coming off the tank walls), it didn't seal properly and started peeling. The orcas were able to find weak points and began eating it. The endoscopies were to see if it caused them any damage. Apparently it doesn't, and apparently they are still eating the sealant off the walls.
Horrible.Someone could have gotten seriously hurt, a swipe from his caudal peduncle (tail) could have broken someone's rib, and he could have bitten someone who's hand got into the wrong place. He could have also seriously hurt himself. Dolphins may not have barf reflexes, but I'm sure he could feel that thing in his stomach or intestine. That's why people are usually under sedation when they have an endoscopy, but that would be way to risky with a cetacean.
Ugh, Loro Parque Clearly is not equipped to hold so many orcas. They piss me off soo bad. Poor Morgan is gonna have to be a part of this poor management.. tisk, tisk. :/
Oh my god what the heck is that block doing in his mouth? That poor Orca. They need to move them all back to better facilities, their obviously not being trained well there in Loro whatever. I hear the Orcas are not getting along either. Saw a picture of Kohana's dorsal fin with a gash. Meh. Pains me to see such. They go to hold him down cause it obviously causes him distress. Poor Keto..... how many times does he have to endure this?
That was unnerving, he practically roared at them. That shows so much anger and fear in these poor animals. And the fact that som many more every year are being subjected to further torment and murder is heartwrenching. No more cetaceans should have to deal with that much pain and stress, they just treat that poor whale like property. Truly heartbreaking on both ends, thank you for sharing this with us.
The article was very interesting. Especially to read what exactly happened when Keto attacked his trainer. To me, it proves there is no bond between killer whales and their trainers. The killer whales only perform for the rewards, not to please their trainers.
That was absolutly barbaric. I could hardly watch the video. The sounds Keto was making were heartbreaking as were the other orca's spy hopping and calling out in the background. Thanks so much for posting this, I'll be sure to send it around.
@DisneyCal95 It's not so much a captivity problem, it's the parks problem and their training on the whales, which in this case, well, you can see there wasn't any.
Oh gosh! Honestly speakiing here. I HATE LORO PARK. Thats my opinion. These whales are not properly trained for endoscopies. There was a SeaWorld supervisor there in that video actually. I as a SeaWorld lover, was not keen on the idea of shoving a block in Keto's mouth. There must've been a better way to do that. SeaWorld orcas though (like the residents at SWF, SWC, SWT) are trained to have tubes down their throats though.
@Tili4ever - I didn't know the extent of how bad it was until I saw the video. Poor Keto must've been very stressed out. He doesn't look like he's been trained for that at all.
@FreedomForOrcas You're welcomez :). I honestly felt crushed that Keto had to suffer through that. Never before have I seen or even heard an Orca growl. I never even knew they could. Seriously just like shove the tube down their throat, he was probably aggravated because of that block in his mouth.
@FreedomForOrcas I just found out that Morgan is being moved to Loro Parque and I hate Loro Parque. Honestly, I'm pro-cap but Morgan was rescued and I believe she needs to go to either a park that actuallty cares for he orcas or in all reality I think Morgan should be released. She should definately not be sent to Loro Parque especially after seeing how they treaated Keto. Poor Morgan. Ihope she never has to go through something as stressful as having a block shoved in her mouth
And people like GoAwayPeta support Loro parque. Absolutely disgusting.

i have a question... i COMPLETELY support all of your ideas, but i was just wondering how seaworld benefits from sending orcas to loro parque?

@wootirockx - Yeah it was terrible watching it :(
He wasn't even trained for the procedure, and the wooden block shouldn't have been necessary.

I feel SO Bad for Morgan! I don't want here to go there! I wish she would go to Seaworld were they at least kinda know what they are doing!
