  • boy she must have been sorry

  • Anna didnt commit suicide. Accidental overdose was blamed for her death. Medical negligence similar to what occurred with Michael Jackson.

  • oh Vic: poor looser!

  • her looks more like her father than her husband

  • he looks like her father more than her mother

  • They are a beautiful couple!

  • @OnCloudNine62 no,that´s not true

  • Damone has even admitted in the past that he was possessive and abusive at times when he was married to Pier. I don't think he's a bad guy but I just don't care for him here. They were both obviously under a lot of pressure from many sources throughout their marriage.

  • BTW, unless I missed it, despite their one son together, Angeli doesn't even rate a mention in Vic's recently published autobio.

  • @spagandtuna

    oh really?

  • Leave the great Vic Damone alone. Both Dean and Angeli were emotional wrecks from jump, and Dean probably would have loved her if (s)he spelled the name "Pierre."

  • If James Dean hadn't been killed, do you think Vic would have let her make the movie "Someone Up There Likes Me" with Jimmy?

  • It is ver very sad of her tragic death at an early age, she had talent.

  • She's so beautiful, a fresh, innocent, natural beauty too. And she didn't just choose Vic over James because Dean wasn't Catholic (even though for a Catholic to marry outside their faith was thought to be completely unnaceptable) They look happy, she's very responsive when he kisses her/nuzzles her hair but you can see it in her eyes, a yearning of sorts. But at least I would've made sure I was dumping the love of my life for a GOOD Catholic boy, which Vic sure as hell didn't turn out to be.

  • I have to agree, there is a lack of chemistry. And everyone should have the right to sign its name.

  • Somebody shut him up!! he doesn't let her talk and she looks pretty but very awkward...

    RIP Pier and James.

  • Im reading her biography A Fragile Life and its kinda of ironic.... Vic wasnt everything Enrica though he was.... I think she ended up hated Vic more than she disapproved of Jimmy.

  • @KaseyluvsJamesDean So true! Enrica was kind of a controlling stage mother, who disapproved of Jimmy and saw Vic through rose-colored glasses - how quickly her opinion changed! I hope she isn't still keeping Pier and Jimmy apart.

  • @Muirmaiden What a lovely thing to say & I hope so too. Do you know if Piers mother was still alive when Pier was found dead and did she ever find out how much she loved and never got over JD? Pier said I dont think its possible to love one man, even if that man is dead, and live with another man. How sad for them both. RIP James and Pier I've just watched the film Race for Destiny tonight, have you seen it?

  • @Soulisscool, sorry for the late reply. I haven't seen that film but yes Enrica Pierangeli was alive when Pier died. She always downplayed Pier's relationship and feelings for Jimmy Dean, but that doesn't surprise me. She did however acknowledge that Pier was deeply hurt by Jimmy's death and may very well have blamed herself.

  • @KaseyluvsJamesDean Serves her right but the real losers were poor Pier and James.

  • Remind's me of TomKat..sad.

  • I don't think there's anything sweet about the viewing of them together here. Vic Damone is holding onto her as if she's a possession. And she looks frightened. I see no love here, just control from him and fear from her.

  • I agree 1Th1617, This makes me sick to my stomach. "Vic Douchebag" is a jerk. James Dean was a far better man than him!!

  • @1Th1617

After watching them together, I'm not surprised they later divorced. And it's sad that she suffered from depression, eventually ending her life by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. She was certainly beautiful & a very good actress in the right role...and he's a fine singer. THANKS for posting this fascinating clip!!!

  • @JubalCalif Apparently she took the overdose just before the anniversary of James death. She said ' I tired to love my husbands the way I loved Jimmy, I used to lie in bed with them wishing it was Jimmy next to me' or words to that effect. Theres a couple of her quotes at the end of the film Race for Destiny. Poor Pierre and James and James had an unfortunate life from the beginnig.

  • @Soulisscool I am old enough to remember James Dean's death, I was 12. He was 24. He might have been involved with Pier Angeli, but he was bi-sexual and more in love with himself.

  • @Soulisscool wow. I was guessing, but I had no idea. That's incredible.

  • @JubalCalif *tried

  • @1Th1617

I agree, it's a far cry from the kind of admiration and love visible in the episode with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

  • she broke up with james dean for that guy..... wtf... what an IDIOT!

  • I know!

But her mother simply wouldn't allow her to marry a Non-Catholic man.

She did [later on in her life] say Jimmy was her true love.

  • Awe how cute he signed Mr. and Mrs. So sweet. She has the cutest tiniest frame ever.

  • she blew it

  • Still pier was a idiot!

  • ARE YOU ALL CRAZY! pier angeli is a total bitch! for dumping james dean. he cried but that slut wanted to do something cuz her mother wanted it that way not because of her heart.

  • Pier was very much in love with James. Right before she died she said in an interview that he was the only man she truly ever loved. Her family just pressured her too much. They didn't like him because he was Catholic.

But I would've just run away with James. He was so gorgeous. Pier shouldn't have sold out like that.

  • First, her mother didn't like him because he wasn't catholic. He was a very troubled young man. He was also bisexual. Maybe she didn't want to share.

  • lol whoops...I meant to type "WASN'T".

Maybe...I guess we'll never really know.

  • 261sting, what makes you think he wouldn't have been faithful to her if they had married? None of us know that. What we do know is that she and Vic Damone had a troubled marriage and there were reports that he beat her. They eventually divorced and she committed suicide.

  • It seems she paid a very heavy price for the choice she made. Very sad...

  • It is sad.

But apparently James was very demanding. Because his mother died when he was nine years old and his father aboned him. He looked for somebody to love him...and he needed a lot of love. It was in this documentary on him I watched which came with the dvd of "Rebel Without a Cause."

  • He may have been "very demanding" because it seemed he did need a lot of love but it also seemed Pier REALLY loved JD!! And I don't think he would have beaten her like Vic Damone did!!!

  • Did Vic beat her??? =[

I know James was never like that.

  • There were reports that he did. Yes.

  • @MrsJamesDeanForEver It was the Italian way and Pier was loyal to her mother even though she loved James. Remember her mother had controlled her most of her life.

  • Wonderful ! I'm reading Vic's book right now (excellent read ! the man can sure spin a story !) so finding this came at a perfect time !

  • my father was inlove with Pier , and thus my name ..i now know why ...she was so stunning !! beautiful beautiful beautiful !!!

  • She looks like the French singer Alizee, I think. Both are pretty!

  • she is still my dream girl.

  • why does vic talk so weird.

  • jeswes -4u -

In order to disguise who he is ?

And he really hogs the mike. I'd rather Angeli was out there on her own.

  • I know. She's like waiting to respond but he keeps doing it.

  • i agree...he doesn't give her any air time.

  • That's what the contestants did if they thought they would be recognised by their voice.

  • Vic Damone: oh poor looser guy!!...

  • Notice how Pier lapses into melancholy when Vic mentions her latest movie "Someone Up There Likes Me" - she was supposed to have made that with Jimmy, but he died before that could be. So sad, I bet Pier was thinking of her Jimmy at that moment.

  • @Muirmaiden Yes she did look very sad and reminiscent. I never knew that Jimmy died before they even started 'Someone Up There Likes Me' and I am so sad about that, I would have liked that for them, who knows it might have even brought them together again.

  • @Muirmaiden I thought the same thing too! Its so sad and tragic.

  • talk about a trophy wife.

she was a delight as Danny Kaye's co-star in Merry Andrews.

  • Did it annoy anyone else that he kept doing the talking? There were a couple times she leaned forward to say something but he talked instead. Usually with married couples they take turns.

  • Does anyone else find it a bit telling that Vic signed for both of them as "Mr. and Mrs. Vic Damone"? Maybe it was meant to be funny, but knowing what we know now about their marriage, it's kind of uncomfortable. Pier looks lovely, so sad that her life would end so tragically. As others said she never got over James Dean and it was her mother who wanted her to marry Vic. Her best friend Debbie Reynolds advised her not to but Pier was under so much pressure. I hope Pier and Jimmy are together

  • GSN showed this episode on 18 September 2008. What a line up -- dance instructor Arthur Murray, a talkative importer of beer {"Would this change mey?" asks Winchell.) Pier impersonating southern and Vic impersonating palooka and then a bee inspector. The producers used Winchell a number of times after Fred Allen's death. "Sho nuff honey" LOL.

  • she was pretty wasn't she?

  • GOD, I love you for posting all these great videos.

I'd rather see James Dean beside her, but maybe I'm too bitter. This show was in 17 June 1956, according to imdb, Jimmy was long gone.

    Pier = Beautiful.

  • Thank you so much Norbert for this rare video!!I love Pier Angeli!

  • I find this one sad. Vic Damone supposedly beat Pier Angeli. James Dean wanted to marry her but her family didn't approve and wanted her to marry a Catholic man. James Dean died. Pier Angeli committed suicide in the '70s, I believe.

  • Where did you hear that? I've never heard that -- the usual story is that her mother was domineering and that broke up the marriage.

  • It's amazing, thank you! I often laugh a lot with 'What's my line'.

  • Thank you so very, very much for showing this rare clip. WOnderful.

  • Pier Angeli was truly charming.

Thanks Norbert for these wonderful clips

  • Reading about the lives of many of these guests, I have been shocked at how many ended badly. Regrettably, the very attractive Pier Angeli was amongst them. I don't want to dwell on it here, but, for those who are interested, there is a very interesting piece about her life at Wikipedia. The saddest line there: 'Just before her death, she spoke of her relationship with James Dean and in part said, "There was only one love in my life, and that was Jimmy Dean." '

  • @Fenhalls At the end of the film 'James Dean Race with Destiny it has 3 quotes from Pier about James. One was "I tried to love my husbands the way I loved Jimmy, I would lie with in bed with my husband thinking of Jimmy and wishing it was Jimmy by my side and not my husband". That's not completely accurate because I cant remember it exactly but its close. So very sad.

  • Thank heaven that Goodson-Todman had the presence of mind to kinescope WML and preserve it, so kids today can see that the 1950s did have big talents. Thanx for posting.
