@alonmerlin Remember, back in those days there were no factories yet and most consumer goods were made by local craftsman. So, there would be a forge in ever major settlement where useful metal tools and weapons would be made. That canon could've have been made from scrap iron (inexpensive), and Davy could've commissioned it pretty cheaply -- say the price of 5 heavy cooking pots.
