Just as a note, I think it is a better repair to drill the hole out through the case, get some long and thin screws, and then bolt it down. This gives much more stability and does not affect the visuals too much. Also, using thermal grease is a good idea.
I gonna buy a processor for this notebook because old one is cracked and do what is shown here (I mean ask a friend:D to do this). After he changed DC power jack to an undead one (nut screwed to the body) I thought it will live for long. Ahhh, I wish I changed thermal paste or saw this video earlier. I new that 2 that little things are not soldered at all. My fan was louder than all desktops fan all together!
Please click "more info" up and to the right on this page. It will explain the whole thing. I am resoldering the threaded posts that hold the heatsink close to the cpu.

I'm repairing a 2710US Notebook for a client of mine, same issue. These guys had to have been high when they put this thing together!

My fan run at full throttle for about 10 seconds, is that bad? Where I live it is about 90F outside.

Soldering works just fine man. What you did was overkill. I've fixed many of these by just using a 250w soldering iron.

If only I had found this BEFORE my laptop baked itself. D'oh! At least I know this for the future... thanks for posting this!
