  • I love that actress Preity Zinta!

  • you think that something you should check of this Testimony on MySpace type in the name Terrell Jennings the guy with the guitar profile

  • Deepa is a great director... making movies concerning in what's going on in life!

  • this looks like a movie i never seen and i just wanna buy it cause it looks soo good

  • ok, I visited film festival in Tartu, Estonia. This was the late night movie... ooh... I liked it very much.. There is a little story, but it has sooo much to say... and to let people to think about so many things... Yeah, Hell is better than Heaven without dignity... .9

  • Sad the problem of domestic violence

  • So far all of her movies have shown Hindus and Sikhs in poor light. Rarely in India do we ever get to project the truth about how the Muslims behave because of this secular and leftist thinking that dominates Indian culture at the moment!

  • @johnnybrown1884 well, hindus siks anyone who abuses their spouse is an awful, horrid person, and its as prevalent in indian societies as the wider world, and this movie just happens to show something different from the bollywood sparkle

  • @luna4ever36 That is all well and good and I agree with you that domestic violence is horrid. I just hope ignorant people will not assume that my future wife will suffer domestic violence because I am a Hindu. On Another note, leftist are rarely concerned about Hindu rights in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Kashmir, why is that?

    -Johnny B

  • @johnnybrown1884 That is a really sad thing, since all those countries are neighbours. Unfortunately the world's just way too bad these days. But if we really care about this, then there is always a way to do something 'bout it. Its not HIndus really, just the arranged marriage thing creeps people out, cause you wouldn't know if your new husband would abuse you, and it won't even be your mistake. Plus the fact I guess you can't really divorce either, or you family will probably flare up and all.

  • @luna4ever36 It is sad but the relationship between the two nations goes way back in history to the relationship between Hinduism and Islam prior and during the Mughal era. Unlike the sibling rivalry between say the US and Cannada or Australia and New Zealand, India and Pakistan have sustained hatred for each other with a firm grounding in ideological differences i.e. Hinduism and Islam. Funny how religions can be such a strong differentiating force even though they are the same race!

  • @johnnybrown1884 Not that I care two bits about race either. I hate racism as well!

  • @johnnybrown1884 Its just the army and politics which create this sort of conflicts, I know a few things bout India, lol I am of Indian origin, but people are seriously racist, with the caste stuff in Hindusim too. Its really weird.

Yup, although religion's supposed to connect us all, it kinda does nothing but create differences. Its probably when aliens invade that humans will all get together as humans.;) Anyway, cheer up, its a harsh world we live in, but we gotta face it.=)

  • @luna4ever36 Caste is certainly discriminatory, but there is no racial basis for the caste. It is merely a division of labour or segregation between different classes of people. It existed in Europe as well. Funny enough the HIndu scriptures never talk about caste yet people abuse the system, similar to the way the KKK exploit christianity for their racist propoganda. Religion in its pure form has a lot to offer, we are too stupid to follow it!

  • @johnnybrown1884 Haha, too true. I think, in this age, its pretty impossible to really teach religion in its pure form, cause we've all forgotten it. Personally, I reckon its better to leave religion aside. You can be a good person, religion or not.

I dun know abt segregation in Europe but the fact stands dat people there are materially better off than India with all the starvin' people plus the cast prejudice, which does nothing to end this.

  • @luna4ever36 I agree with you, I live in Aus and I am far better off than I would be in India. Heck the competition is fierce, population is huge, pollution is high (Mumbai is horrendous) and traffic is nuts. For Me I try to get the best of both worlds, materially the west is superior but there are aspects of India I appreciate, but that goes for all cultures I guess that have something good to offer!

  • @johnnybrown1884 Totally agree with you there, its just many people, they live closeted lives, and refuse to admit the sad aspects of their countries. Anyway, what bothers me is the fact when people, suppose you, migrate, like this movie shows, they get mail-order brides from home, which seems quite horrendous.

  • I use to be one of those closeted Indo-maniacs. There are problems and it took me a long time to realise and acknowledge that those problems do exist. That is not to say the west is perfect and it isnt, but we need to properly analyse the situation and conclude with solid evidence what is wrong and what is right and not blindly defend a nation.

  • wow hahhah you can't spell and your grammar sucks ass. loser. i bet you don't have a girlfriend.. and prob never will!

  • lol don786, your an insecure fobby little man. get over this and go live your life if you have one. im not surprised you dont have anything better to do.

  • I was looking for heaven & earth. didn't bother to watch the clip. was busy reading all the comments. finally found out it was the wrong flick. my mistake.

  • i heard from a lot of different sources that this movie really wasn't the best, but the trailer looks awesome. I'll still give it a chance.

  • Deepa Is a genius! You have to see the films fire, water, earth.....All her filmsare controversal, but intense. Shes the spike lee of india!

  • ..this is a boring movie

  • Another TLC domestic abuse movie... moving along.

  • Aishwarya Rai made a similar movie (about a woman in England who burned her husband for having beating her) it´s a real story. But from the trailer it seems that Preity has made a soo much better job, 'cause, on the reviews of Ash's movie she was cartonished, unlike Preity.

  • Hi, and thanks for sharing.

I finally watched this movie tonight. It made me cry, because I know there are definitely many women in the world for whom this is more than just a movie.

Although I am not interested in symbolism, I tried to decipher and understand it. Great movie. Loved the ending too. Recommend it to everyone, men and women alike.

  • You cant hate movies with Preity Zinta in them its just not possible

  • i thought this movie was horrible.

the ending was rushed and it didnt satisfy me.

  • what was the ending?

  • well she decided to leave and then it shows her leaving her bedroom and thats it.

  • finally a bit of reality rather then all nonsense.

  • poor movie. doesn't compare to her (deepa mehta's) other films. I wouldn't bother with this one.

  • I could not sleep for days

  • Movie was GREAT!

  • This movie was so disturbing..Preity did SUCH AN AMAZZING JOB !!!!!

  • haha seems lke a good movie then!

  • it will hurt me to watch this movie, because I have female friends who have gone through this, it makes me sick to my stomach!

  • where can i watch the movie or buy it

  • I watched this movie and I think is awesome. The psychological background is really strong

  • yaaa looks like shit

  • I'm glad that we have such a big assortment of genres. It would be wrong just to produce a film just to make a blockbuster. Everyone would make a different movie and I'm glad that there are also more pretentious films.

  • the movie's language is too flipin hard to understand i think it's in punjabi if it was in hindi or english would've atleast know what the hell they are saying lol an art films may be a delight for some but cinema's are left empty an sales are close to none lol

  • Anyway, what are subtitles good for?

  • movie is for enjoying not reading all the way lol after few scenes it's gonna be like Zzzzzzzzzzzz lol

  • Comment removed

  • exactly why are you wasting yr time msging me when you also know we boh have diferent opnions an i also watch orignials only by the way !

  • I didn't mean to tell you that you don't watch originals man!

When I read your comment I just had to write down my opinion.

Anyway thanks for being so friendly.

  • whats wrong with women directors making movies that depict the reality of injustice committed by men?

its not like male directors are going to take up the pledge.

  • huh lol that''s the only thing women directors think of reality of injustice committed by men lol art movies may excite people like you but will always remain empty at the cinema's

  • have u ever thought that the cinema would be instead filled with 'people like me ' that enjoy a bit more substance then half naked manequins dancing the screen?

and to be honest - NRI marriages and the euphoria surrounding them have declined this past few years - because its thanks to movies like Deepa's that highlight the reality of the hardship life overseas.

  • nah i never thought that lol an i don't even want to because not everyone likes boring films an i also don't like half naked manequins dancing the screen there's more to bollywood then crying an dancing through out the movie

  • your being too arrogant on urself.

your version of boring is not another person's version of boring.

everyone has the right to express themselves on whatever issue possible - just realise that other people may not agree with u.

  • it's you who's being arrogant i didn't start this msging game you did when did i say others don't have the right to speak i am just telling my views if it disturbs you why bother msging me simple as that

  • i just wanted you to realise that Deepa Mehta has a right to make provocative films - just because your not her target audience doesnt mean it will automatically fail. - the world is bigger than you.

  • don't give me that crap world is bigger you are argueing with me not the world lol i don't know why you feel the need for me to agree with you i am not against these kinda films just a thought that women directors have no other issues or topics to make films on apart from the saddy life an husbands treating them badly give me a break lol

  • wow ur a really bad debater.

    1. you're contradicting ur opinion that all women directors have no other films to make - Farah Khan.

    2. the statement the world is bigger than you - is a direct statement to you - about how if you step out of your childlike ego then u would realise that there are other things in life that are important and worth fighting at then stupid futile youtube message wars.

    3. Your an idiot.

  • an yr a mother fucker arsehhole i was being polite an giving you the chance to just fuck off but loosers like you never understand go worship these sad boring movies an bark somewhere else i don't wanna talk to a piece of shit like you so just fuck off!

  • i second point 3.

  • second what ever i don't care all this crap for just a just bloody movie yr such a low life lol

  • i agree with you 100% and think you have a very classy way with your words. keep it up. you'll always have losers like don786k who can't debate will just start name calling as well as not making any sense.

    anyway props to you ketchupexpress

  • yr the loser bitch an don't fuckin get me started now i told that arshole i don't wanna talk about the movie but yet he keeps msging me so it natural for me to swear you all saddo's go fuck off an don't bother msging me

  • what an idiotic way to get your point across...the only reason it isn't famous is because of indian ignorant ppl like urself...if this was a western movie, then it'd be another issue...grow the fuck up...plus i'm not even indian and i liked this movie!

  • shut up mother fucker that movie an debate is old time now i don't wanna talk about it an FYI i aint indian so cut the crap!

  • Yeah..well I bet you are brown..dumb fuck..really no wants to fight with your idiotic self..you can't even type.tsk tsk tsk

  • Comment removed

  • Try her...like I said moron! Tsk tsk tsk

  • whatever loser you an yr tsk can take a hype i've figured out you have no friends to talk to so you keep msging me but dickhead i'm to busy to hear yr trash so just fuck off

  • lol how lame!

  • looks amazing!

  • B-Town!!!!

  • yeeeeeeeeah!

  • Okay, I just saw this movie right now this morning because my parents bought it and holy fuck, i was crying so much throughout the whole time and getting chills down my spine. O____O

I love Preity Zinta in this movie <3

  • The ending of the movie was bit confusing for some but those who have gone through such bad experiences in their lives they exactly knew what was going on! IMAGINATION plays a good role in this movie especially in the end. COBRA IS REPRESENTED AS STRENGTH IN THE MOVIE! IN THE END SHE GETS THE CONFIDENCE AND STRENGTH TO WALK AWAY FROM SUCH ABUSE!

  • I request all husbands, mothers, wives, and all the important members of the family to stop such TORTURE! Definitely, has negative impacts on the children. If you see any sort of abuse, you should take action! Stop it if you can with your hands, or your tongue, rather walk away! To bring change we all have to loose few things in our lives so do not be frightened to take action! Living in Western world we still continue to face such dilemmas and now we should look for ways to stop such Abuse!

  • I have lists and lists of women who got abused by their husbands, mother-in-laws, and other members of their families. Many are Pakistani, Indian, Bangali, Sri Lankans and Canadians, Africans, and so forth. Why abuse still exist in 21th century? Men and women are more educated today as they were few decades ago. Most of the women who tolerated such abuse where educated and came from great families, what stopped them from complaining and to fight back???

  • motherinlaws and fatherinlaws should understand that after marriage kids need their privacy! Motherinlaws are very noisy and jealous of fact their sons are spending too much time with their wives. In this movie we can see how the motherinlaw tries to create problems between husband and wife. There are millions of women who will witness that woman is the enemy of an other woman!!! This problem could only be solved IF ALL WOMAN BECOME GOOD TO EACH OTHER IN JOINT FAMILIES OR NOT! I

  • The men of all societies have to start treating their women with respect. It was very hard and it is still very hard for a man to balance both being a husband and a son. In general men should think and act as civilized beings before they listen to their mothers, wives, sisters, brothers, fathers, and so forth. They should acknowledge that women are not sexual objects, rather gift from God and they deserve love rather abuse.

  • must watch! All over the world women are getting abused by their family, extended families, in-laws, husbands and so forth. Abuse does not only exist in Sikh families, but it exists in all western and eastern cultures. This is a worldwide problem! No religion teaches such abuse, rather religion teaches good treatment for woman. But as you can see from the movie, the biggest enemy of woman is woman and the man is used as a string, sometimes the mother pulls him and sometimes the wife.

  • its ok

  • Ahh... I guess I should have seen it with subtitles. I missed a lot of dialoogues coz they were in proper punjabi :((

  • Its a wonderfully acted, directed movie. Though digress a bit with the cobra part...

I might sound stupid but can someone explain me what exactly the ending meant.

Was she hallucinating or he was bipolar or it was just supposed to be symbolical.

  • firstly i am indian, not pakistani. second, im happy that you are a proud sikh. i have many sikh friends and i have even been to gurudwara many times.

i only mentioned the muslim stereotype because i was talking about how bollywood stereotypes everybody (sikhs, muslims, tamils etc.)

anyway, this movie is based on a sikh family but this movie has nothing to do with Sikhism. It is a universal theme, and it applies to all Indians. Wife abuse occurs all too often in India.

  • launda

mehwish dis movie is on sikh not on muslim..........nd i proud to be a punjabi sikh.......fuck u pakistani

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck You Hindustani Machood Golden

Temple Bhol Gai .. wahan bolna ta na proub punjabi Sikh ..

  • i watch this movie but i dont understand is this movie is about what why he beat her over small matter and her mother so irritating when in the hotel room part so irritated why he got his son married in the first place?

  • I agree this is not discrimination against a group of people, it's disclosing the facts, the reality that most of the imported spouses suffer in west!!!! So get the point instead of BS around!

  • looks intense

  • hey.. where can i watch this movie?

  • This movie is like "Provoked",in which Aishwarya acted........

  • YEA..BUT THIS ONE IS BETTER

  • luv dis movie!! i watched it on da plane n it was da best! <3 =D

  • This movie looks really good!

looking forward to watch itt =)

  • the movie was in theatres and out already i wanted to see it soo bad but never did:( and now its out of the theatres

  • I think this is released in early March '09

  • Depending on where you live, the release dates differ.

This movie has been out in Canada since October 08.

I had the privilege of watching it in my Social Science class. It's great.

  • Is this movie not out yet? I cant find it anywhere?

  • This movie is not out yet, it will be out soon if i am not wrong..

  • Wow, this movie is deep. I want to see it.

  • the girl at 1:18 is in my class :P

  • 1:19 the guy is in my class :P no joke! his name is Orville

  • why do always they potrait women this way?

    this is not good.

onece provoked , than bricklane and now this one.

    very strange same topic .

it happens in our subcontinent what is very bad and should not be happened .

u wont talk about that it happens only in punjab.

    its rubbish.

but they would go for other type of subject

  • remind me of Aishwarya rai's PROVOKED, based on similar story line.

  • the gurus have given equal rights to the women in their scriptures in everything... in fact one of the verses even is biased towards women when the guru says " so kyun manda akhiye jis jamme rajan".... n if u got to a social cell in punjab u will find how deliberately women's righst r being infringed upon by the sikhs themselves... all u rich NRI brats.. the reality is far diff. Deepa Mehta n all such film makers who talk abt it r doing u a favour by showing the reality..try to appreciate

  • shut the fuk up u dumb bitch

  • most of you who assume that they havent seen it around and so it doesnt exist that rampantly in our community, are i guess wearing rose glasses.. abuse doesnt happen in a yard full of relatives.. abuse and intimidation happens behind closed doors with great subtlety and equally great aggression.. one must know how to sense it.. I can speak of my city and my village n i know the situation is BAD!!!!!!

  • well i have no problems with deepa mehta showing punjabis's true plight... am a punjabi too n hail from ludhiana ... spousal abuse is very rampant in our family and around.I personally know many help groups in ludhiana working with abused housewives n surprisingly majority of these women r sikh.. the social decadence punjab is seeing now is astonishing ..everything gets covered under the robust n loud image n lifestyle of punjabis n the SGPC's pseudo religious clout

  • social decadence as in?

  • its horrible if this happened to ur family...and I'm not saying it DON"T happen...but I've noticed from mehta movies previously and in bollywood general...they tend to portray sikhs and punjabi's in a negative light and frankly, im getting SICK OF IT!!!!

  • well, wat religion is she supposed 2 make Rocky? a hawaiian? it only made sense dat hes a punjab

  • 1. Hawaiian adn Punjabi is NOT a religon

    2. So wat u saying is rocky can only be a sikh??? India is made up of many more religions...yet sikhism which only makes up 2% of India has to be continued protrayed wrongly in so many films. What about Hindu, Muslim, Christianity? they all still could have the INdian/Punjab culture!

My problem isn't with the sikh religion in this movie...its the entire indian movie industry that continues to portray punjabi/sikhs as stupid idiots in their films!

  • ...riittee...

  • 1. dats wat i mean if u dunt understand english

  • the entire indian movie industry doesnt only portray punjabis in poor light, but portrays every non hindi-speaking community badly. Now u kno y india too that long to attain their independence...people arent even united, thats y they keep tryin to put down every other community. And furthermore, wats the use of the last 62 yrs independence???

  • like what? which indian community do they show in a bad light? it is true that they do alot of stereotyping i.e. parsis are always the rich ones, tamil ones are always the religious ones with accents, punjabis are always the peppy ones, but this doesn't mean they're putting anybody down.

  • ur 2nd point is what i was referring. Im a south-indian tamilian, and I can speak accent-free hindi (my mom was a hindi professor), in addition to FIVE other languages I read, write and speak. And lets say if all the tamil ones couldnt speak hindi, then how has Rekha, Hema Malini, Jayaprada, Sridevi, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan established themselves in Bollywood (then and now)? Guess that kind of TRUE information was ignored rite???

  • thuogh it is true that there are many south indians in bollywood, it is also true that most tamils do not speak hindi/urdu. i know so many indian tamils. of them only one can speak hindi. i have some malay friends, and others from kerala, and they can speak hindi/urdu, however.

likewise, it is true that north indians do not speak any south languages.

but the fact is most tamils do not speak hindi. you will not even see hindi writing newhere in the south. remember wut happ in the 50s?

  • yea of course i do remember the Anti-Hindi agitations that took place back then...hehe guess that makes me an exception.

but when u said "malay" friends...do u mean Malayalee, or from Malaysia??? (Malay is a language spoken in Malaysia)

  • yes i meant malayali. I was running out of characters (500 limit), so I rote Malay as short form.

anyway, i do know a few tamils who can speak hindi, but the majority of them cannot. besides, does it matter? any north indian can't speak tamil either.

  • and if according to them we didnt know how to speak hindi, let them try speaking a grammatically correct sentence in Telugu or Tamil. U rarely c south indians making fun of north indians in Tamil or Telugu movies.

  • i have only seen a handful of south indian movies, and there was one movie where they made fun of a north indian. well not so much making fun, but stereotyping.

however i havent seen enough tamil movies to be able to say whether it happens often or not.

  • No, they don't. Have you seen "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi"? Or "Jab We Met"? Both present Sikhs and Sikh families as loving and caring religious people.

  • i highly agree that bollywood has issues with portraying sikhs in a wrong way. but here it makes sense. why?

because canada, (brampton especially) has a very large punjabi/sikh population. and when i say large, i mean LARGE. You're from canada, you should know that too.

Btw even bollywood is slowly beginning to let go of that stereotype of sikhs being dumb. It was still kind of there in movieslike Singh is Kinng, but its slowly getting better.

  • fuckin who cares ,bollywood can b all hindu agenda.but most of bollywoods actors have their origins from punjab.starting from sunil dutt, dharmenra,to premchopra to countless.these ugly hindu twarts never have the physique or right look .they try to feel better abt themselves by showing that they r smarter.fuck them.

  • lol well believe it or not, i've even seen lollywood (pakistani) movies where they made fun of sikhs.

either way i don't care. i still enjoy bollywood movies and i don't see them as hindu agenda. thuogh i agree tht i get upset when they always show a muslim as the villain. but nowadays even THAT is not always the case..

  • p.s. have you seen delhi 6?

its shows hinduism as an extremely stupid religion. would you consider that hindu agenda? lol.

(no offense to my hindu brothers. i have nothing against hinduism)

  • i know it is ,i dont have to wach some movie to prove the point.fuck u lil hindus out there.

  • firstly, i am a Muslim and a Proud Muslim.

second, if you want to be irrational, then theres nothing i can do about it.

bollywood is about entertainment. stop trying to find hidden messages in the movies. agreed that bollywood stereotypes alot, & it makes me very mad when the terrorist is always a Muslim. But then again, is it only bollywood we should blame? Sadly the entire world is doing it.

Hatred is a sign of weakness. Just accept wat you see. if you don't agree with it, ignore it.

  • are you indian? what religion are you?

  • continued:

evidence of bollywood slowly getting rid of the sikh stereotype:

    movies like Jab we met

  • so true, deepa mehta films are completely lacking in any positive portrayal Sikhs, it's pathetic.

  • COMPLETELY AGREE!!!

  • i am sOOOOOOOOOOO tired of these anti-punjabi themes from this director, and from the indian film industry as a whole. Either punjabi people are the comic jokes or wife beaters. Shame on you deepa mehta...

  • Majority are woman beaters but hopefully people realized it's the 21st century and change. Men still beat women in many parts of the country.

  • wow racist much??

  • my mom is a social worker they found out most women beaters are police officers, doctors, firemen(it's funny people who are supposed to protect ppl hurt they own)

  • orville my booooy!

  • I agree...how come all these movies have to be about punjabis??? It pisses me off, its doesn't happen any more in the punjabi culture than in other indian cultures or other cultures in the world as a whole....

  • I have so much trouble understanding the kind of pain that one human can inflict on another. This is a powerful movie and should be seen by everyone, perhaps it can awaken some compassion.

  • Deepa should have made a reverse film on this topic- I agree this movie looks very similar to Provoked- She should have shown wht MEN who come from backhome after marriage do to their Desi Canadian Brides and the whole ordeal that follows- At the very least it would have been DIFFERENT than PROVOKED.

  • trust me, Heaven On Earth is very different from Provoked.

  • Looks similar to provoked, with same theme. I think Preity is gonna give her best performance.. Intense promo.. Hopefully will be able to see this.

  • Lol I played an extra in this movie.

  • at 1:19: hey orville, you're on the big screen!!!!! good job! i wish you all the best

  • it's being released in canada on october 24!!!!

  • wow amazing

  • has anyone else noticed that the last couple of movies made in the bollywood film industry about domestic violence have been based around the punjabi culture, the last movie i was thinking of was provoked starring aishwariya rai and that was also domestic violence and based around the punjabi culture .. im punjabi my self but have bever seen domestic violence in or around me soo its really shocking to see this, but by the looks of this film its looks amazing and preity's acting looks really good

  • why is there religious hymns in the background?

seems to be a shadow for portraying another meaning....-_-

  • can someone tell me when is it gona be released.?

  • preity looks gorgeous

  • wow

i hate snakes so i almost died when i saw it

    but this movie looks amazingggg

anyone know when it's coming out/when the release dat is?

  • I love preity zinta, I am waiting for her movies to release, can't wait!!

  • wow, Preity rocks, awesome

  • Wow...preity is back!!!awesome tralier

  • looks intense

  • OH MY GOD looks awesome! Can't wait! Deepa Mehta's films are always very interesting and real, and this looks like it's going to be a knock-out performance by Preity. She's really a brilliant actress.

  • Waited like a year and a half for Preity's movies and got 3 trailers to watch. And all of them (Heroes, The Last Lear, Heaven on Earth) look so good with expectation of great performances by Preity. Especially this movie looks mad good. Preity didn't have any movie a year ago and now its her time to shine and to prove to media that she is still one of the best actrees in bollywood

  • Totaly with you! I've been waiting for all her movies...The last year, heroes, this.. and She has another one i fink its Har pal? sumin like that...its soo great to finnaly see bollywood best actress again. and in a diff role! i loev preity, she does new roles, which makes her fab! cant wait 4 da film too! :)

  • Looks good, is it suposed to be like provoked? or just with a similar story line?? provoked was a real story. preity's looking godd as always cant wait to see it! :)

  • Looks interesting, she looks very different in this movie.Anyway, I saw grab hold of something, was that a snake or some stick. You know the part before the last line in the trailer.
