@eagnir05 imo people shouldnt celebrate someones death, even if it is someone who deserved it as it is in this case, it still is never an excuse to celebrate/party etc.
@thedemoninside123 dude, talkin bout osama, hes not british, in fact, he hates uk as much as america, its just a general anti-western thing hes got goin on. american revolution was hundreds of years ago nd went along the lines of this
british guy: lets go to this new land that the spaniards found and make it english land
british guy #2: ok, have fun
british guy #1 (many years later): fuck england, im gonna go to war to seperate land i put an enlish flag on from england
@MrP00sy nope, it was more like people that moved to america were discriminated against (crazy crazy taxes and whatnot) and had no say in the government so naturally they rebelled
@MrP00sy Fuck you douche. The british got what was coming to them and you should know that. The only shameful thing Americans did was take what was the native americans. After the turn of the 20th century though, well our government sucks ass.
But yeah I will celebrate my ancestors stomping all over the British back in the day, and do it with pride.
Guys, I'm a Brit and I have to say that the American revolution was one of the most admirable feats of human history. However, I noticed the top comment here said that you should be proud of the revolution. Yes, you should be proud of your ancestry, but I have to wonder where your spirit of independence is today. Your country has been taken over by wall street and corrupt government and your civil liberties are dwindling fast. It's time to stand up for yourselves again! I wish you the very best.
@Aussie50 lolwut? You do realize that all governments are corrupt right? I find it funny that you chose to use Socialist government to describe the current government as if American government was never bad before hand especially in the 19th century. But I agree I love U.S. history as well and some great things that have happens makes me proud to be one,but also things that disgrace it.
I had an epic moment to this song. Was chillin at this chick's place and things were getting hot and heavy. The very SECOND she went for my belt, this song came on through her ipod. She looks at the stereo, looks up at me and smiles. Only thing I could think to say was "Do it for your country baby."
@HextorianBlackguard Brian May once performed "God Save the Queen" (or whatever it's called) FOR the Queen, quite an awesome performance. I'd LOVE to see something like that here. Imagine Iced Earth at the Super Bowl playing this, instead of whatever "diva" is the flavor of that month. The crowd would go fuckin' nuts! Hundreds of thousands of people in that stadium hyped off their asses, full of adrenaline, they don't wanna hear fuckin' Miley Cyrus try and make 'em cry when it's go time!
@Yetem1234 No-no, that's not what I meant. I believe that it's every person's right and obligation to protest and revolt against something that prevents them from being free or happy or whatever (that whole pursuit of happiness deal - not the movie LOL). I just said that though revolution brings better life in the long run, but to the people who are fighting in it it's a tragedy. Just like any war.
Yet were it not for our commitment to revolution...the Irish would have perished from famine. The oppressed asians would still be living in turmoil. And on top of it all, it would have been the germans to invent the atomic bomb.
Don't forget any of that. Though our role at times may be ignorant...we are a piece of the scale balancing things. And without us...it is likely a great number of you debating would not exist.. especially those of you who are american. Don't forget that.
@YoshiKun9708 Bill O'Reilly? Is it you? ))))) Goddamn you're a typical republican. "we are a piece of the scale balancing things. And without us...it is likely a great number of you debating would not exist.. especially those of you who are american" Whatever dude. LOL
No, I'm not republican. To call me conservative is comedy in itself. But to say that Revolution was unecessary...you're a fool. And any literate, or even educated person would tell you that...our actions have done good things. That must be respected...as should the fact that we are a close minded nation. Life isn't one sided...there are, after all, two sides to one coin.
@YoshiKun9708 I wasn't really talking about the American revolution and it has nothing to do with mentality of american people. I was just saying that even though future generations (in any country) view revolutions as a necessity and something unavoidable, for a generation that has to actually fight in revolution it's not that great. There're usually very few people who are that determined to make a change. The rest are just following those leaders and sometimes blindly.
I was saying, that good things come from war more often than you realize. The act of war is a brutal one...it is a horrible and inhuman act. Yet...to fight, for what you believe in is the most romantic idea in existence. There is beauty in bloodshed. The American Revolution may have been horrible, but my statement stands...it was necessary. I understand why it was necessary because I understand history. I also understand Vietnam...and the beginning of World War 1. They were all necessary.
@YoshiKun9708 LOL We're basically saying the same thing, but from different standpoints. )))) I agree that revolutions bring more good things in a long run? but still it would suck ass to be living in that period. And to hell with romanticism. ))))
@Yetem1234 I think not just in gaining independence, but the fact that which other ex-colony and colonizer can boast a relationship in which our men and women will die for each other? God bless the USA from a thankful English man.
@wzbzbz Thank you very much. Though in my mind, the best arrangement of our national anthem will always be the version by Boston. Check it out; it's amazing.
I'm not american and I don't think it sucks, I have this album with this national anthem on and iced earth rules! It don't mean I have to LOVE the USA though. I don't hate the US but i'm not American.
