they wouldnt take the triboro....thats way uptown and out of the way....he should hope that the 59th st bridge should close since that is the more direct route from the un to queens
I just heard on the radio here in the UK that Diplomats in London have run up over £1 million in unpaid parking tickets. I just had to come and look this little clip up.
You skipped over Charlies comment after the presidents rant. He tells the president he more than likely just screamed at a assistant or secretary. Its funny, you should add it in.
For me it was just the opening, "THERE ARE BIG SIGNS, YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!" It's just the statement of the fact in a way that's so un-Bartlet yet so Bartlet at the same time.
The UN Secretary General is trying to weasel out of a parking ticket and thinks he can because he is "important" but the President does not believe that "important" people should be exempt to the law. The Secretary General understandably thus pisses off Bartlet and this happens.
No, I said (basically) that just because he has a high rank he shouldn't be exempt to the laws, which is basically what you said minus the words "diplomatic immunity."
Uhm, accurately, the UN Secretary-General was attempting to intercede on behalf of [lower-ranking] diplomats [and their families] working for the UN--who are known to park anywhere they please, get issued parking tickets each time which they simply ignore.
Periodically, NYC and Washington DC send reminders and threaten to seize offending cars, and that is when the UN Secretary General steps in, and eventually the White House gets involved, too.
(The UN Secretary General himself, as well as the Ambassadors of major countries themselves, would most likely have chauffeurs, thus would not leave their cars parked in no-park zones unattended.)
Most official buildings have special parking for VIPs and their cars it would only be underings that drove themselves that would have to follow signs & not all works are given diplomatic immunity & I dont think it applies to family in all cases either. Though I believe it changes
It depends - my Dad works for the Foreign Service and when asked responded that U.S. diplomats overseas, at least, are expected to obey the laws of the country they're in and, if their cars get towed, they're pretty much on their own.
Judging from the number of complaints the cities of New York and Washington issue every year about diplomats using their immunity to park wherever they please, not everyone follows the same rulebook...
That's a very loyal viewpoint you've got there but they're really not that saintly... you should check out how much American diplomats in London owe in congestions charges!
Awesome! I think after this, it turns out not to be the Secretary General, and Leo days "He sure as hell's gonna watch were he parks" or something like that.
it's the Secretary General's secretary. Charlie says "Well that was probably his secretary. But you can be sure she'll know not to park there anymore"
