I have this exact unit in my entertainment room, sort of a throw-back to what my Grandparents had when I was a kid. Mine is an SK-28B (B for Blond Oak, yours is either an M for mahogany or O for Oak). Seem to be missing the legs. These were manufactured in late '59 as a'60 model. Once repaired you will get years of joy from it.
@04COROLLAable I don't know if they all originally had legs, but bine has castors on the bottom, so I can roll it around the house! haha. I do like the legs cause it makes the console sit higher... but for some reason this one doesn't have them..
But your better off to have a service guy look at it, dont take the back off yourself and mess with things as it can be dangerous, plu to if you remove something and forget how it goes you can ruin it
Yours just so you know was made in 1959 1960, They intriduced theor new models like cars in the fall, So yours was made in 1959 for 1960. Very nice unit, Im picking up another nice one this weekend. SK736A. You cant beat these machines, this was Quality stuff, yours costs close to 400 in 1960, thats like 1500 in todays money
@Turkeydoodlers Thank you so much for this info. I did some research and thought it might be around 1961. You really can't beat them. That Jensen speaker gives you better quality basss than anything you can buy new. I think it could use some amp work (perhaps some replacement caps?) cause when switched to stereo, the right side is very quiet, even with the right/left knob balanced... the volume is only is equal RL when switched to mono. Don't know if you've done any work on these...
Hi, It could be a few things, Before i had the amp rebuilt in mine, if you watch my videos you can see it.. The right side was weak, mine was just a bad Tube, i replaced that and it was fine, You should replace the tubes in pairs, because if you have a week one and one thats dead all together and replace the dead one, they are not working the same value.. So id start there, However, if you want this unit to last a long time, then you need to replace all the capacitors
@Turkeydoodlers Interesting. I'm not too familiar with tubes... I'm only 20 and just discovered them a couple years ago.. haven't done much work on tube amps, but I know there are 3 separate places for tubes in this console (Radio unit, Sound Control unit, and the main Amp down below) Should I check the tubes in the main amp first? BTW, I've watched your video, it really does sound amazing, and that's even on youtube. Can't imagine the real life quality.
Well you need to know what your doing, you dont want to get a shock, so i typically dont tell people to stick there hands in there :) what i did with mine was left it unplugged for a week or 2, i pulled 1 tube out at a time, push them back in so they are tight, sometimes its just a loose tube or it could be something more involved, id look and see if you have any antique radio people around your city, i sent mine to a guy in Ohio, and he wasnt expensive.
@calemstevens33 . Also alot of people think just because a tube it lit means its good, and it could be on but weak.. What i would do is hold off from playing it till you get the amp done, start with the power amp, thats what i did, i sent that and the small Vibrasonic one. because if you play it with bad caps it can cause more damage. if you burn out that transformer, then your in trouble because tjhose are hard to find and wont work at all with out it. keep me posted as your progress
@calemstevens33 I know its hard not to play a new toy but trust me, you will enjoy it better with those things dont, they are not expensive parts, its just labor. let me know if you want the number to the guy that did mine
My 1965 Fisher Console i have, thats all original and sounds great. But next year im going to have that redone to so i can have it around another 40 years. If you have any questions or need anything just let me know glad to help
@Turkeydoodlers I'm familiar with replacing caps, so it's just the tubes I may need help with. I know of a couple vintage electronic stores around town that I might try. I'm over in Springfield Oregon on the west coast, so shipping to Ohio might get a little pricy, but if nothing pans out locally, I'll let you know.
Trust me if you think it sounds nice now, its only working 50%, redone that Jensen in that will rattle the floors. Watch my video of it Restored and hear the sound quality, night and day difference
@Turkeydoodlers It says SK 28M. Can't find much info about it online. Motorola is much more difficult to research when it comes to this stuff compared to say RCA Victor.
Those portable ones are AWESOME! Can't wait to see it!

Turkeydoodlers 3 months ago
@Turkeydoodlers haha! It wasn't his laugh, he was playing a clip from The Office... Michael Scott's laugh actually.
