I disagree. Being elected president is not a reward. There is prestige that comes with the title, but a person should not be elected just for "recognition of many great prior accomplishments". If those accomplishments would ADD to the qualifications of the nominee, then yes, those accomplishments are worth noting. You should, however, be voting for the person that you think can do the best job in the position, not necessarily who has had a perfect, long political career (neither candidates do).
How should we judge who will best carry out the duties of the office except by examining their past successes and failures in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of other positions they have held?
If the other positions have nothing to do with leading this country, they carry no weight in my mind. Whether or not Obama is a celebrity or if he is viewed by some religious nuts as an anti-christ has little to do with how he will lead the country. RELEVENT past successes and failures are things like tendencies in the senate, is campaigning is positive, etc.
Again, presidency isn't a reward from voters, it's faith in that person that he/she will keep personal policy trends and promises.

The argument I stated was regarding ANWAR and the OCS which is what the issue is about, not drilling in general. Drilling will continue of course, and that's acceptable. The ridiculous idea that opening those places RIGHT NOW will help us both in the short term to lower prices, or in the long run to break our dependence on foreign oil have both been proven wrong by people that don't have conflicts of interest.

I disagree. Being elected president is not a reward. There is prestige that comes with the title, but a person should not be elected just for "recognition of many great prior accomplishments". If those accomplishments would ADD to the qualifications of the nominee, then yes, those accomplishments are worth noting. You should, however, be voting for the person that you think can do the best job in the position, not necessarily who has had a perfect, long political career (neither candidates do).

Whether or not Obama is a celebrity or if he is viewed by some religious nuts as an anti-christ has little to do with how he will lead the country. RELEVENT past successes and failures are things like tendencies in the senate, is campaigning is positive, etc.
Again, presidency isn't a reward from voters, it's faith in that person that he/she will keep personal policy trends and promises.

WMDs are not only classified as nuclear material. They are also Toxic gasses such as tuben, serin, VX, chlorine, and mustard. All of which Saddam Hussein had and used to kill over 100,000 kurdish people in the northern provence of Iraq. When Saddam was finished with his genocide he had enough of these gasses to kill everyone in the state of Rhode Island, which is the most densly populated state, and many more in the nearby states wind permitting.

That's quite a loose definition of "cleaner air."
The difference between forest fires and emissions from burning fossil fuels is that the forest that is burning now pulled all that carbon out of the atmosphere within the last few hundred years. The fossil fuels have had carbon locked underground since prehistoric times.
Forest fires on average put out 5% of the nation's emissions from fossil fuels. It's not one forest fire in California right now, it's a LOT. A lot more than normal.

Wow! I know you are really uneducated. Trees do put out hydrocarbons. The reaction of sunlight and photo-sythensis creates them...It's called transpariation...go look it up. When you get your high school diploma put it in your car window (assuming you can figure out how to get one) so you can park in the handicapped areas.

ANYWAY, photosynthesis is when plants take water that is gathered from the moisture in the soil and air and use sunlight to react it with carbon dioxide that is also gathered. Hydrocarbons are produced, and USED by the plant as nourishment. Oxygen is released, NOT hydrocarbons. Transpiration is WATER evaporating. You must have dropped out of HS.

Apparently you're saying alternatives are going to magically appear through the free market. It's a shame the wealthy (a majority of them republicans) are quite reluctant to INVEST in alternative energy science.

The only thing affecting our climate is the Sun...and for the last 7 years we have been cooling down...cleaner air makes more sun and more heat...Mars has worse global warming so where are their cars? One forest fire does more than all industry since man and there are 40 million of those a year...we can't compete with nature and her carbon foot print. Calif alone has 14,000 burning right now...what is their carbon foot print? We don't affect the planet's temp..not enoug of us...

Hey thlives...if we drill and stop buying out of country then it will stop the transfer of wealth...that is the whole point in drilling to get off forigien oil until we can develope alternative energy sources..we put a man on the moon, we can go another direction for energy if we choose but it won't happen with a wave of a tire gauge. It will take time but until then keep the money in the US and out of the Saudi's...2 years and we'll be free of them or nearly so not 10

The argument I stated was regarding ANWAR and the OCS which is what the issue is about, not drilling in general. Drilling will continue of course, and that's acceptable. The ridiculous idea that opening those places RIGHT NOW will help us both in the short term to lower prices, or in the long run to break our dependence on foreign oil have both been proven wrong by people that don't have conflicts of interest.

Hey you have to start drilling sometime to get it some day...better today than 10 years from now...There is NO MAGIC LIGHT SWITCH TO FLIP that will fix it overnight and NO ALTERNATIVE power sources standing in line...Devlope the alternative stuff while fixing the problem in the short term...The more we drill the less we buy from them. You live in a TV world. Wars aren't fought and won in 2 hours and neither are oil prices solved with words. It takes a drill
