If you drop in on a local or if your not a local and drop in on any body you decerive a bit of a ruff up. My local isn't worth surfing any more because of the blow-ins that come in from over the hill and think they own the place. It makes me to frustrated to even go out after 10:00am. Im Canadian and I surfed D-bah and Burleigh everyday for like a year and I never once had a problem. If you know what you're doing and just keep your distance from others its fine. I actually made friends out in the water at D-bah. Although my frined did ge dropped in on by Mick Fanning. We just let it go. :)
I very rarely have any kind of issue. I always say hi and smile and mostly people are cool. Once in a while you get a arse, but it's no biggy to paddle 10 yards off the peak. We all make mistakes, just say sorry. If everybody plays nice we all get more waves.
I live and surf on the Gold Coast and this video is pure sensationalism. At the more crowded beaches like D'Bah and snapper tempers obviously do flare but it only very rarely gets physical. Furthermore from my experience people generally don't target the foreign surfers at all.

They have one break called Twin Rivers which can be ok on the right day. Stand your ground if they give you shit.

@NymphadoraBeeWolf You wont get any hassles at all. We only got grief because we surfed twin Rivers. Which we found out later the locals considered it a "secret" spot. There was only 1 other guy in the water who we never hassled for waves but he saw us in the pub and all his mates told us to leave. Im fairly big and ive surfed since i was 5 and i dont scare so stood my ground. But guys like that never travel and surf the same crap. If they ever did travel they realize how childish they sounded.

My local isn't worth surfing any more because of the blow-ins that come in from over the hill and think they own the place. It makes me to frustrated to even go out after 10:00am. It's not the kids, it's the failed 30 - 50 year old men who beat there wives on the weekend that are the problem. The oldies reckon they are entitled to the waves and they simply are not. When I took up surfing I could not believe the number of aggressive loser wankers out there. It put all the other sports I did to shame. In general the surfing attitude is an embarrassment. Just get names and license plates, file a police report, press charges, then sue them in civil court until they're financially dead. The central premise is that locals should be a privileged sub-class, and that's just wrong and dumb. I live and surf on the Gold Coast and this video is pure sensationalism. At the more crowded beaches like D'Bah and snapper tempers obviously do flare but it only very rarely gets physical. Furthermore from my experience people generally don't target the foreign surfers at all.

The only place ive ever had any stress was in Tofino. The locals are ass holes. They are surrounded by crappy beach breaks and the majority of them cant even surf to save themselves. There was only 1 other guy in the water who we never hassled for waves but he saw us in the pub and all his mates told us to leave. Im fairly big and ive surfed since i was 5 and i dont scare so stood my ground. But guys like that never travel and surf the same crap. If they ever did travel they realize how childish they sounded.

Half the clips you edited in are from a single incident in Hawaii, I dunno wtf it has to do with the gold coast? I travelled up the east coast of Oz for a few months and I saw none of that shit. And I am a complete moron in the surf and the first to admit it. I accidentally (yes!) dropped in on locals at several spots and never got beat down. You get a long fucking way by saying 'sorry mate' and from my experience as a newbie this video makes it out way worse than it is.
