You'll see the sgx543 kills all of them and is more than two times faster than the second best GPU found on android phones (Mali and adreno 220)

It may run on other devices but it'll be partly marketing to make it more worth getting the new one, and partly because it'll work less optimally on older devices. Apple are all about the experience. They don't bother if they don't think it's going to be good enough.
