  • Godd point there, a lot of people convert the lat row into the rear delt row.

  • His legs are too close together, if he was lifting any kind of weight he'd be very unbalanced. Wider leg stance also stops the knees buckling inwards, which is bad for them. Also, his back is only straight for about one second at 1:08, then he starts looking down which is fucking terrible as it curves the top of the back.

    If you're gonna make an instruction video, do it properly. Maybe he should've tried actually lifting some weights beforehand. His technique is pretty poor.

  • Repetitions of 10-12 will build mass better than fewer, heavier repetitions which focus on increasing the maximum amount you can lift.

  • I've been saying the same thing for almost 20 years! To handle real weight and build real muscle mass, you have to cheat. That doesn't mean throwing the weights without control. When I train, I may use cheating, but I'm always in control. And one more thing is why the hell does everyone nowadays start their bent rows so high? Your upper body should be almost parallel to the floor in the start and can raise up a bit during your rep. Better power and lat involvement.

  • Fair point if you are doing massive amounts of weight, there is a danger of hurting your back. A fun variation is a bench pull, where you lie on an elevated horizontal bench and pull in. This position means you can achieve a straight pull to the chest, and completely isolates the back and triceps.

  • i think the lower part of your back is supposed to be parallel, and then your back arches up (lumbar)

    It takes practice to get your back parallel while lifting, as I had the same feeling of 'I'm falling over' when I began. The key is obviously to begin with very light weights and then gradually increase as you feel comfortable.

    I also found out that wearing a weight-training belt helps support the lower back better. This exercise can hurt the lower back if not done properly.

  • Yes, underhand is called a reverse grip bent over row. I usually have my hands a little wider with underhand grip.

  • he is wrong in that you should bring it to your naval or just above. To get the target area you need to bring it closer to your chest.. as you can see, it's the opposite of a bench press

  • Its not how I would do rows either but his method IS a viable alternative to the norm, his action will hit the lower lats and rhomboids, whether he realises that is another question.

  • An exercise physiologist is someone that has a degree in knowing how the body works and responds during exercise. Here in Aus, its a 3 year degree comprising physiology, exercise physiology, biochemistry, training technicques, anatomy and functional anatomy. Its similar to physiotherapy.

    It basically means he is one of the more qualified people to explain how to train and exercise.

    8-12 is hypertrophy with a moderate weight

    12-25 Endurance and 25+ aerobic.

  • theres a pretty big difference... google the two... its too hard to describe exactly the difference. dead lifts hits lower back and hamstrings while this hits lower back in a different way and upper back.

  • This is a good demonstration. Key is butt out and natural curve in lower back. I think that along with stiff legged dead lifts this is a difficult exercise to get right when first learning but once it is. It is indispensable. Your explanation is very helpful. Thank you.
