  • Hello again,I do not have a digital copy of a 24 track master no. Those backing tracks were and still are, very well protected,i was invited as a guest just to freestyle and see what happened. A lot of it came from the top of my head and I think you can sort of hear it in the track. It was just a guide vocal so I could get more ideas. Then The Clash broke up but we still kept in touch. For the people who saw The Clash and The Beat or The English beat in America on the same bill, would have seen a

  • wow absolutely awesome

  • Wicked RR.....Wish things had been different but then we wouldnt have had everything all you great artisits have given us.

Would have loved to have seen The Beat and The Clash messing things up big style on the same stage.......huge respect & See ya @ Tha Palace soon.

  • Simply AWESOME, The Clash, Ranking Roger, SKA ......voice of a generation ...or 2!

  • ...Simply AWESOME!! respect The Clash, Rankin Roger, voice of a generation...or two!

  • Shoot! Brilliance! R.R. Down The Casbah! Still listen to this on my copy of The Clash "Rebellos Garajos" 77-84. Thanks for putting this up mate and also to the great RR for the background info. A part of musical history & legend. All the best!

  • whoot....I like it!

  • absolutely fantastic. Thanks.

  • I LOVE this, thank you for putting it up. :)

  • Holy crap - that is gooooooood!!!!

    Thanks a million rutaloot !

  • @4theRecordAdoptADog glad you like it :)

  • Ranking Roger is awesome! Very glad someone posted this.

  • Wonderful!!!

Regardless of "where it's come from, where it's been" ;-) this is awesome!! It is nice to get the lowdown on the history of this gem, though!! Thank you!!!!!

  • Well we used a studio i think in notting hill.

Mick Jones was with me and a couple of engineers.

We took the original 24 track and took the lead vox out.

Anyway,it was not allowed to be let out to anyone, althouh i gave the late John Peel a copy of it (R.I.P.)

but......yes,I guess you could say it was a demo waiting approval i guess.

Thanks for letting people hear what could have been a remix,if it was finished.

    Better some than none!

    Respect!

    RR :)

  • no problem! and thanks for all the information about it I have to say I can't imagine how good this would have been if you guys had finished it! I mean I think this version sounds great and this is just the rough mix! but anyways big respect on this one! I think I actually like this version better than the original Rock The Casbah I think I might search and see if I can find that version of Red Angel Dragnet with you toasting over since I think that would be very cool to listen to

  • Big up & massive respect ruling Ranking Roger! Skate the Ska Posse!

  • @skatingdread Do you have a digital copy of the 24-track master?

  • @skatingdread - Guys like you, Neville Staples, & Lynval Golding, & Don Letts, were a seriously positive influence on us growing up in the US as 1st generation West Indians. You guys were talented, different and proud, which gave us a boost of confidence you can't put a price on! :0)

  • @skatingdread Ranking Roger, it's very nice to meet you! I'm only a 23 year old dominican lad, but when I was 16, the english beat and general public's tenderness were the soundtrack of my life. Tenderness is so beautiful, I can't even begin to describe it! Plus, Ferris Bueller's day off is my favorite movie, so I love the instrumental version of Rotating Head that Hughes played at the end! You should come to my country and blast a Ska explosion! You rock!

  • Nice to see this cut up here.

I recorded this for the Clash in London around 82-3 when the clash and the beat toured quite a bit in the U.S.A together.

I also did a toast/rap over red angel dragnet which i have

    not heard since.

I did it as a one take in the studio. The Clash split up shortly afterwards so it was never released.

What you guys are hearing here was just a rough mix for us to go away and listen too.

    it was never finished.

  • thats really cool to know!....so then this is basically like a demo not a live version or anything like that right?

  • thats kinda eerie man... hearing one of your favorite songs totally different.

  • neh doesnt work...but full credit for trying,,,if that means anything to the composer.

  • so awesome, loving this right now. thanks!

  • Damn great!!!

  • It sounds live. Also, I have the full version of Mick's version of Combat Rock and it isn't on there. It also features the vocalist Roger is currently working with and he is too young to have been around for Combat Rock. I think someone may have included it on the version you got. I know in speaking with Nick Hawkins (BAD) which Roger would later join, Roger did record the song (I always wanted to hear the studio version) for the not too great Clash tribute album but it didn't make it on there.

  • hmm...well I guess you could be right since it does seem to sound a bit like its live now doesn't it? I just figured this was the studio version since it came with the Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg that I have which I'm pretty sure is complete also but yeah I guess you may be right someone could have just put it in there...really would be cool to listen to the studio version if this isn't it though

  • It is a live version that Roger does every show now. there are videos of him performing it on youtube.

  • yeah I know he does this live too sometimes but on the original mix of what would become Combat Rock (Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg) Mick did this version with Roger on it since also if you've noticed him and Mick have always worked on stuff together

  • wow... rock!

  • Where did you find this.... it is a gem.

  • its from a version of the Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg bootleg

  • i love it!

  • glad you like it! :)
