  • I've just finished making some sausage rolls. Very tasty they are too. I used a sausage meat with cranberry and orange in it. Makes quite a nice change.

  • @qutie133 depends on what type of mince you get... you need 'sausage mince' not the regular mince..

    i was about to comment about how lean the meat would be if you used other wise.. or something along those lines ... thus creating more fat from the meat to come out.. but i really have no idea..

    They're not sausages at start, but once they're rolled in the pastry and sealed they become sausages.

  • In Malta(probably you know about Malta since we have a lot of Maltese communities in Melbourne/Sydney etc) the local pasty shops make sausage rolls out of...well...sausages. Literally it's just a sausage in dough.

  • my friends dad made some sausage rolls but he cooked the meat first and then put it in the puff pastry. but those were good and this looks extrememly delish so ill have to try this too...

  • made these 2 nights ago.What a smashing success!!!! You need to add plenty of seasoning to the meat if you like it tasty.For plainer tasting just use less.I added potato{already 80% cooked} and the chunks added delight to the eating.

    Probably I'll never buy commercial ones again.

  • as if they use cardboard. why make your own when it costs more to buy the sausage meat and puff pastry. i will buy mine frozen in England it's only sausage meat inside the puff pastry and can buy 50 snack size so i know if i want any i can put a few in at a time. in fact Greggs bakers do the best ones here

  • I'm thinking about trying this again with either a Ground Round or with a 90/10 chuck to see if that turns out better... also, maybe using a pan that can drain off excess grease. I would really like to try this again because yours looks so great... and other than the greasiness the one I made tasted good.

  • I also don't think my puff pastry was as big as yours because I ran out of space for the second one and tried to do a ghetto fix by using some crescent roll dough to patch the extra spot... this wasn't the reason for the epic fail because even the one I had enough dough for turned out bad.

    It didn't taste too bad... except for the greasiness on the bottom.

  • I had an epic fail trying to make these for a platter for the Super Bowl party today. I also didn't tape it because i was having such a hectic time and everybody was already there watching the game.

    Basically, the roll did not stay closed (where the egg wash was holding it together) and the bottom became soaked with grease to the point it was falling apart! I don't really know what went wrong there (used an 80/20 ground chuck).

  • ok, its prob different in the US, but here in Australia meat bought from the butcher isnt that much more expensive, and supermarkets usually have alot more fat content in their meat which woul;d make it soggy. The only other suggestion i could throw up is to double layer your pastry sheets :) you making a new vid soon?

  • Would this be 400 degrees Fahrenheit?

    It said 392 when I converted it. Standard baking time is generally 350 degrees. 400 would be about two settings higher on a standard oven. Just trying to get a feel for how this should convert over for us Yanks.

  • Nvmd... I'll just do it between 375 and 400 and that will be about 200 Celsius.

  • I will certainly let you know how it goes and I might video it, but since I am making it for a Superbowl party this weekend, I might not get the chance to post a video of it... especially since the cooking itself will probably be going on during the beginning of the game... I will be doing the prep work before church, putting it in the fridge, and then cooking it after I get home... right as the game is starting.

    Also, I will not be using veggies in mine.
