  • @samdubusc oh ok. I was just going by what I heard. Im installing one of these in my new Les Paul this week along with a Liquifire. Nice demo btw

  • @theultimaterockr Sounds like it'll be pretty killer once you're done. Good luck!

  • Roll back the tone and you can get a cleaner sound

  • @theultimaterockr If you roll back the volume, you get a cleaner sound (I've found). If you roll back the tone, you'd get a muddier sound. All that being said, Ive removed the tone control from the circuitry. :D

  • Sounds like sex:)

  • I think you need to talk more in your videos...

  • @ch0g0nda1 Talking sucks, bro!

  • And dude, you play REALLY good! How long have you been playing? Do you have a teacher or something?

  • When you're playing on a "clean" signal (at around 3:50), is there some gain on the amp? It just sounds very slight, but it could be just me, I can't tell

  • @AcousticRocker1118 coil splitting selects one coil in a humbucker, giving you a more single-coil type sound. Coil tap is when you "tap" a pickup at a certain point in the windings. This allows you to get the full output of the pickup, or the output of the pickup at the tapped point.

  • Great Sound enjoyed your playing also Have the pickup did not install it yet I am glad that you demoed the pickup thanks

  • @AcousticRocker1118 Errr, I know coil splitting is just turning one coil off. Coil tapping involves something extra... like some capacitor or something being added to the circuit. Maybe someone who knows more would like to comment...?

  • @samdubusc Coil tapping makes the pickup out of phase.

  • @samdubusc coil tapping is with an extra preamp in it if im not mistaken

  • you got satriani's guitar lol nice

  • Nice sounding rig-- I've got a Kramer with a Fred and a FS1 ( keep in mind it was done about 14 or 15 years ago ) and I love them both. FS1 is great with distorted tones as well as the Fred. Love ur amp by the way.

  • What head is it?

  • what guitar is that

  • @RandyFoxKiller Ibanez JS1200

  • @samdubusc dope playing man. at the beggining your like stoned but its dope too haahahah

  • Haha, told you I'd been drinking.

  • @oriont618 lol, it's cool, dude

  • Well if it helps at all I don't think you sound like Vai at all lol (sorry if that offends, I've been drinking). It'd be pretty hard to tell you sound like vai with that shitty camera mic anyways.

I thought you got that idea from their website. I read that from their website, which is what led me to buy and eventually become very disappointed in the EVO2.

  • @oriont618 Well, whether I do or don't, that's what people have said. Also, was using the SM57 you see there... ;)

  • @oriont618 I bought it and didn't like it too...in a mahogany Explorer. It sounds good here though.

  • Dude,

Evo2 sounds way different than the Evolution. I have to identical RG550s with the exception of the bridge pickups being different. One Evolution and one Evo2. I hate the Evo2, it has too many lower mids and not enough highs. It's not articulate at all, very much unlike the Evolution.

Nice review, I just wanted to say something about your Evo2 to Evolution statement, "The Evo2 is just an Evolution with more headroom".

  • @oriont618 That's a fair point. When I said that, what I had in mind was what DiMarzio has on their website: The Evo 2 has the "same basic tone with increased headroom and dynamics." I haven't had the opportunity to wire in an Evolution bridge pickup into that guitar. However, people have commented in my tone as sounding like Vai's... even if I'm playing a Satriani song.

  • it´s your ibanez made in indonesia?

    because sounds great..

    sorry for my English.

  • @DooMSanniN It was made in Japan. And it does sound really great. :)

  • i was thinking of putting a tone zone in the neck and an evo 2 in the bridge although i know the tone zone is for the bridge pickup i really like the tone in the nneck but will the evo 2 work well with the tone zone ????

  • 2 + 2 = cracker which is why an orange at my mom.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I couldn't agree more.

  • Hey man, love the sound. I just put a tone zone in the bridge of my Ibanez RG and want to put the Evo 2 in the neck position but I see everyone uses it in the bridge. What do you think of that combo and the placement of the evo 2 in the neck?

  • @ironman4life89 Well, there are two main reasons why some pickups are considered "bridge" or "neck" pickups: power and eq. Bridge pickups are almost ALWAYS more powerful than their neck counterparts on varying degrees. Also bridge pickups eq are generally more focused in the mids and beck pickups less so (although there are exceptions to both these rules). Putting the Evo 2 in the neck position might be interested, but I wouldn't recommend it. It kinda breaks both the "rules" of pickup placement

  • ok thanks dude, and would you think if i got a evo2 on my bridge and evolutuion on the neck it would give me aa rob zombie sound? and i have a j5 telecaster

  • @SqRp777 That'd be a good combo, but I have no idea if it'd help/make you sound like Rob Zombie...

  • @samdubusc get the pickups dimebag originally used to get that sound

  • im going to order the evo2 off of guitar center.com and i was wondering if they came in a pack of neck and bridge pickups? if they dont what is your opinion on a neck pickup that will complement the sound of the evo2, because u rock dude

  • @SqRp777 When you order an Evo 2, it's just the one pickup. Recommendations for the neck pickup are: Evolution neck, Breed neck, PAF Pro, PAF Joe, Fred and anything else someone might recommend. My first choice would be the Evolution neck.

  • How will it sound on basswood body , rosewood fretboard in bridge position ?

  • @coffeeflush Like you hear it... ;) It sounds great

  • @samdubusc : Thanks i think ill be buying a pair.

  • @samdubusc Hey man, I have a Evo2 in my prestige and its the best bridge pickup Ive tried so far for distortion.

  • @samdubusc : I am confused between buying a evo 2 or an emg 81 for bridge for metal, any recommendations ?

  • @coffeeflush Well, what kind of metal do you like? What do your favorite artists use? If your gonna get an active pickup in the bridge, you'll almost certainly want an active in the neck. Also, I hate active pickups, so if you ask me, don't bother with them. :)

  • @samdubusc : Bands like death, behemoth for the rhythm, i prefer the evo's because they are more smooth sounding and don't need batteries but i am worried about the low end as in palm muted riffs and triplets. My current pickups lack the clarity at low ends.

  • @coffeeflush Well, the Evo 2's don't have that much bass, but prolly not so much that a little EQing can't fix. The thing about bass is that it can make your palm mutes sound big and powerful, but it can also muddy up your sound. If you have less bass, your sound will be more focused and clear... which is great for stuff like triplets.

  • @samdubusc : That makes sense, thanks, i think ill go for the evo2

Thanks man, your videos helped a lot in making up my mind

  • @coffeeflush I'm really glad I could help! :D

  • Hellow Man

i would like to know how does the EVO 2 sounds. can you describe it?

is it in the bridge right?!?!?!

im willing to know the exact difference between the evolution and the evo 2.

  • @WithFullDistortion Yeah, the Evo is in the bridge. I told you what I know about the differences in the PM. The only way I can describe the sound of the Evo 2 is that it's midrangey. It's not really fat sounding, it's focused... it's not thin either though. It *almost* has a nasally sound... however, not in a bad way.

  • I wonder how this would sound on the bridge of a swampash body.

  • @sensational1982 I'd guess the bumped mids of the Evo 2 would level out the "combed out" mids of a swamp ash body (jemsite has a page about body woods). However, there might be a risk of it sounding thin. For that, something like a Tone Zone or Breed might be better, giving you a fatter tone. But again, I'm just guessing.

  • Nice demo, I was wondering if you'd might go more into detail with the coil tapping try for a mor straty tone if you wouldnt mind?

  • @EvanN108 I could probably do that...

  • @samdubusc Awesome Thanks!

  • will the evo2 sound good in basswood

  • @mohamedaafee My JS1200 (which I'm using) is basswood and I think it sounds great. ;)

  • Do the evos stay, pretty, clean with a bunch of effects on them? I'm debating between getting either evo's or emgs...though, I am leaning more towards evos, now...from what I've heard out there, on the internet.

One of the plus of emg's are that they stay quite clear even with lots effects...how would you rate your evos to effects. I can hear the usual delay / reverb on your tone...but I'm talking about crazy spacey effects...phasers, flanges, wahs, moog filters...et al...

    what do you think?

  • @novanine9 The Evo's are bright so they stay quite clean. I don't really like active pickups at all compared to passives. I don't really have too many spacey effects, but I'd think the Evo's could take em like a champ. I mean really... we're talking about pickups made for Steve Vai here...

  • Great demo and playing. I'm curious...what are you doing exactly with your fret hand at 1:57 to around 2:01, to get that most awesome squelch harmonics?

In fact...what are both hands doing?

    Really neat

    Thanks

  • @novanine9 Haha, all I'm doing with my fret hand is moving the bar around. My right hand is just doing pinched harmonics.

  • @samdubusc - Ohhhhh...you mean your fret hand is on the trem bar?

    Is that about right?

Where did you get this...curious to the source.

    thanks for the info

  • @novanine9 Haha, it's Satriani's signature move! Check out some of his stuff and you're bound to hear it. If you watched some of his live videos, you can see how he does it.

  • thanks for the review on the Evo 2. This pick up let me know that I need a lot more work at playing guitar lol

  • but it sounds cool man, that pedal you use?

  • @TheMarty915 I'm using the Vox Satchurator for my distortion.

  • excellent sound, this is Marshall Mg Series?

  • Yessir!

  • nice Vai licks.

    what's your wah pedal?

  • Dunlop Crybaby 535q

  • Awesome playing....Great harmonics :)

    Did you learn it yourself?

  • Yeppers, self taught. Has its pros and cons.

  • Finally, a good Evo 2 review. Ur pretty good btw

  • Sweet, I hope it helped you out!

Also, I hope nobody judges me too harshly based on my playing... it's kinda sloppy...

  • @samdubusc O yea, what are the amp settings? mostly the eq. For my sound i like to crank the mids up to about 8-9 and have the bass about 4 and treble 4-5. I got a duncan jb and it sounds pretty good with that. I was just curious to see how it would be with an evo 2.

  • The EQ settings I'm using are: Bass 0, Mids 5, Treble 3. I also normally have the gain at about 3. The reason for all of this is basically because is boomy enough with the bass turned all the way down. Also, it starts to sound bad if I turn the treble up too much. I usually record with the gain at about 3, if I'm practicing with the band I normally crank it to about 5 and crank the mast volume.

  • What amp ?

  • MG100HDFX

  • sweet amp bro have the same one i luckily got mine for like 350$ i own an ibanez rg370dx its got INF4 in bridge wat did your ibanez have? im lookin to upgrade to EVO but i want it to be an upgrade not a midgrade n waste $...thx :)

  • The DiMarzio Fred was originally in my JS1200 and I've since moved it to the neck position. Yeah, the Evo 2, or any other related DiMarzio pickup, will kick the ass of whatever came stock with your Ibanez.

  • @samdubusc haha thx dude and ur sound will be similar because we own the same halfstack...i bet u love urs as much as u love mine...even tho its not tube

  • wow that hair is just amazing!!!...... oh yeah and i guess the guitar playing was alright :p hehe

  • Oh, ZING!!! :O

  • I m following from your previous Fred ( neck ) demo clip.

This is an interesting alternative pickup choice to get clear high-output Satch & Vai tone , apart from previous Dimarzio's recommendation :Paf Joe + Mo Joe ( or Fred ).
