  • making the engine rev make the air psi rise which makes the move , im i right?

  • @AnAProductions151 Yeah, lightly revving the engine will help speed up the air flow into the air bags which lift the bus off the ground. The bus won't operate under 80psi, and it starts at 0 when a bus has either an air leak or has been parked for a long time. This bus needed to be moved right away, to get to the 8 others behind to to get us our old Montreal New Look out of the garage!

  • A few towns still have GM Classics in service. You can still go to Hull and hear them in service, unfortunately a lot have been retired over the last few years.

  • Shit sounds like a GMC Fishbowl from NYCT....3758 :) NICE!

  • Same powerhouse under the hood! Pure 6V71 Detroit Diesel Power my friend!

  • I just LOVE the powerful and healthy ROAR of those Good Old two-cycle Detroit Diesels!!! My Dad and I have a 75 foot motor yacht with twin 8V71TIs that cruises through the water pretty good, We normally cruise her at about 18 knots which is about 20.7 miles per hour and if we really want or need to get somewhere in a hurry such as to avoid bad weather, We can run her up to 27 to 33 knots (top speed) which is between 31 and 37 mph, The sound that those 8V71TIs make at full throttle is AWESOME!!

  • Those were the good old days of buses. I'm glad I had a chance to see some of these before it was too late. I missed my opportunity in Montreal unfortunately, they retired the last of the GM's before I started photographing and videotaping these great buses. Thankfully they still have some in operation at the STO, as well as a few GM New Looks from the 1970's and early 80's are still in service! If you want to hear one of our New Looks with an 8V71 you can check out another video I uploaded.

  • I'm really interested in buying an old mci classic bus, do you know where the old transit busses are kept or sold? or is there a good website?

  • You can check out places like Capital Bus Parts in Quebec, or just contact the various transit agencies. Our organization in Montreal has several historic Montreal New Looks as well as a GM Classic in its possession.

  • wow! thanks man! whats the name of your organization and do you know some Transit agencies? i looked all over the internet but i cant seem to find anything...

  • This is probably a stupid question but what exactly is going on with the engine in the beginning. It sounds almost as if it is redlining. I have heard some of the classics make the noise sometimes just sitting at the terminal so interesting..

  • The bus was sitting for a while here and the airbags have deflated so the bus is sitting on the ground, so the driver started the bus and put it on high idle, and added the extra boost by putting his foot right to the ground on the gas pedal to help speed up the process so he can move the bus faster. Under normal circumstances, this takes 4-5 minutes, but this way speeds up the process to 2-3 minutes, at the cost of stressing out the engine.

  • Ah, now I see, Thanks :)

  • 8603 is now retired along with 8601.

  • That's really sad to hear. It looked a bit rough on the edges, but it still has a strong engine, and probably ran pretty decent as well.

  • I miss hearing that GM sound, it has been absent from STM service since late 2004 for me. :(

I see that bus was a 1986 (hence 8603) and I am glad they still have it. They evne put on that new ad for those Attitude cleaners.

  • They have GM Classics from 1983 to 1986 still in service and going strong. They have no intentions of pulling them out of service for atleast another year. (They just need to be approved by the SAAQ come this fall, and they're futures are secure for another year.) Note that some have already been approved for service in March, so they'll be around until atleast next March unless something awful goes wrong.

  • The sound must be a DD 6V71, eh!

  • Yes

  • great video love to see sto videos.

  • The workers were so nice to us during our visit. They offered to bring out any bus we wanted, even if it meant they had to move other buses out of the way. #8310 (ex STCUM #25-013) was parked right behind this GM Classic, so it was the first to move.

  • I would love to see a video of the ex montreal fishbowl. How many routes do they have. which ones are the busiest. how many garages does sto have and how many buses.

  • I have a few videos of the ex-Montreal New Look, I'll post one up in a few minutes. As for your questions, I'll have to ask someone I know that knows more about the STO than I do.

  • I'm amazed how that driver reversed back to another bus without hitting too hard.

  • All of the STO buses are parked so tight that you can't walk between them, or beside some of them. They're locked bumper to bumper and mirror to mirror in the garages!

  • It seems like they need another garage along with that one then they can add more buses and make service increases. Was it a sunday you wher there.

  • They are currently building a new garage, the frame is up and they just need to put 4 walls around it and it'll be set to go. I went there on a Sunday, so it wasn't too busy, and the mechanics didn't mind my presence.
